Success to who? It wasn't a success to me. I thought it made the NHL look like a circus act or like the old XFL. Did it attract more viewers? I don't know how you would quantify it as a success or failure. How do you judge it? Some fans like it, some don't, and some players like it and some don't. If you ask me this new NHL is light years worse but the majority of people on here think it's better. I guess what I'm getting at is that the shootout doesn't seem like a success to me but maybe it is for the majority of fans.

i agree..the shootouts are a joke, and word is that the nhl is discussing bringing them into the playoffs..if that's the case, i'm out..i'm done...

me too, that would be absolutely ridiculous. the shootout in the regular season is a joke. To me theres nothing better than a double or triple overtime in the playoffs. Your on the edge of your seat the whole time because one bounce can end it all. Can you imagine if the The Stanley Cup was decided in game 7 by a shootout, that would be just as bad as the whole Brett Hull foot in the crease embarrasment of a few years ago.

I can do without the shootouts myself I say lose em for good. I think the NHL should go back to the simple W-L-T system. 2 points for a win 1 for a tie, and go back to 10 mins. of 5 on 5, or 4 on 4 overtime. Nobody should ever get points for losing a game, its stupid, if you lose a game in OT you dont deserve a point. If they bring shootouts to the playoffs Ill be raging mad, I think that would be the dumbest idea ever.

Man, the Flames played awful tonight. Way too many odd-man rushes given up, and our PP was a pathetic 2 for 12. Kipper wasn't very sharp either, which is very rare. Not that he had any help from our D though. Ugh. What a stinker. At least they showed some character coming back from a 3-0 defecit to make things interesting in the 3rd. When Huselius scored to make it 3-2, the Flames started to dominate like we know they can, but unfortunately they dug themselves too deep a hole early in the game, and they just couldn't complete the comeback. Full marks to Anaheim for the win. They played well tonight.

I still say the Flames will win this thing in 6.

OK, judging from your guys reaction, which is quite similar to my own, perhaps the shootout wasn't as efective as i thought The majority of the polls i've seen throughout the season though had people very satisfied with it. The fact remains though, i don't think the shootout is going anywhere.

Well, what can i say. The Rangers played a lot better tonight, and had quite a few chances, but all of their shots either missed the net, were blocked by the Devils defensemen, or the ones that did get through, Marty Brodeur was there to stop them (anyone see his save in the 3rd period!).
Again the special teams killed the Rangers tonight, 1 powerplay goal and 2 shorthanded goals for the Devils. The Rangers were a relative healthy team all season, but the injuries are definitely hurting them now. Jaromir Jagr, Henrik Lundqvist, Martin Rucinsky, Darius Kasparaitis and Jason Ward were all out tonight.
Oh well, back to MSG where the Rangers have been outstanding all season long. The Rangers played very good in the 2nd & 3rd periods tonight, so hopefully they can build on that momentum and win a couple at the Garden, because they HAVE to win them both.

And i take back what i said a few weeks back about how good Sandis Ozolinsh has set in. His first 10 games he helped revive the powerplay, as it was clicking along at a unbelievable rate, and he had something like 12 points in his first 10 games - and wasn't too bad in his own end. The last 10 games or so though, he's been absolutely brutal. He was a healthy scratch the last game of the season against Ottawa (with the division title & home ice on the line), wasn't very good in game 1, and now tonight he was awful. For some reason he decided to pinch in in the 1st, got caught which lead to a Devils 2-on-1 and John Madden scored shorthanded. Then later after a John Madden shorthanded break, the puck was sitting on the goal line and Ozolinsh came and hit it into his own net. Weekes made a horrible decision on that goal as well, deciding to stay in his net instead of coming out to get the puck, which he easily could have done before Madden got to it.

How about this Montrea/Carolina game? What an back & forth game she's been.

I hate when they do that. A few weeks back i was watching a Rangers game and they were winning something like 6-1, so a few minutes into the 3rd they switched games. And it's not like the Rangers/Devils game was close either.

I was at the sabres game. What you missed was a major ass kicking. The worst since the Sabres hit philthy with an 8-0 eliminator in 2001 round 1. Pominville and Dumont had hat tricks and Pominville was supposed to play in rochester this year! Oh well! Esche started a fight with the sabres bench. 2 flyers were ejected, more should have been. Thatcher is a major bitch. The flyers were an embarassment to organized sport. The wave and "philly sucks" chant were in attendance. Sabres were skating circles around the flyers. Lindy Ruff gave everyone a chance on the power play in the 3rd period (like a practice). If the league really wants to enforce the new rules, some suspensions should be made.
