The morning after, i still can't believe the Rangers blew that one. Henrik Lundqvist was sensational & gave his team a chance to win, but they just couldn't hold on. It's a very tough one to take for a Rangers fan, 7 seconds away from going up 3-2 heading back to MSG...and then to have Drury tie it up, and then Afinogenov win it on a PP in overtime. I thought the penalty on Blair Betts in overtime was very questionable, but the same could be said for the penalty the Sabres had taken a few minutes earlier.
Oh well, back to MSG tomorrow afternoon where the Rangers have won, i'm not sure of the number off the top of my head, but something like 8 in a row. Hopefully they can force a game #7 back at HSBC arena!
it sure has been a fun series to watch though
i couldn't believe drury scored that with 7 seconds left, i thought NYR had that one in the bag.... too bad. i'd rather see NYR in the east final than the sabres but what a series this one has become. sharks/wings game starts in 20 minutes, this one hould be just as good.

This was the first non-Ottawa game I've seen and Drury's goal was pretty amazing. If things get less hectic, there's no way I'd miss 6 & 7.
Great game by the Red Wings this afternoon, it's been a great series so far. It'll should be a good game Monday night back in San Jose.
Hopefully the Mathieu Schneider injury isn't too serious. He's by far my favorite defensemen in the NHL, and he's a huge part of the Wings blueline.

That's one of the only times this season that I've seen a goalie so blatantly interfered with that he lost his ability to make the save. With all the talk of Luongo and Turco getting bumped in the first round series, never was either goalie interfered with to the extent that Brodeur was on that play. Turco and Luongo were flopping almost everytime someone came near them. The worst contact on Luongo came after a play, when he was kneed in the head. Brodeur didn't flop. He had no reason to. If that had happened to Emery, he would still by yelling at the ref, along with Murray. They were never interfered with enough to seriously hinder their chance to make a save.
Exactly Tiger. Brodeur is a class act all the way. Nevermind flopping, Marty didn't even look at the ref for a penalty when he was hit, he just tried to get back into the play as quickly as possible. Contrast that with tonight, where the Canucks lose the series because Luongo was too busy looking at the ref to notice the shot coming in from the point. One would hope that given the circumstances, he'll never get caught doing that again.
Look at what the officials allegedly told Brodeur:
Brodeur said he asked the officials for an explanation and was told he ''had time to get out of the way.
If that was anyone other than Brodeur, they would have lost it. Remember Cujo a few years ago going after a ref and actually knocking him down? Well, that's what most goalies would have done. Brodeur was unbelievably calm considering what happened. Marty has only been average during these playoffs (tremendous in the Fisher slew foot game though)and has disappointed. However, he's still either #1 or #2 in the world as far as goalies go. He just doesn't have his mojo this postseason for whatever reason.
Solid article on the Canucks:

Ed Willes went a little far in his criticism but overall it's honest stuff. Heart and leadership are unquestionably the team's biggest problems.
Luongo made a mistake by looking for a penalty just before Neidermeyer scored the winning goal but I think I can forgive him.

HE IS THE TEAM.
Mathieu Schneider has a broken wrist, wow, tough break!
As much as I hate the Sabres and the Rangers for that matter, Id really like to see a Buffalo-Ottawa conference final.
There's a bunch of talk over in the show review section (specifically Phl and DC) about Sabres fans and their "let's go Sabres" chants in between songs. It's nice that the Sabres have such boisterous support while the team is going good. My question is: where were you all when the team was mediocre/crap and almost moved (around 2002)?
i'd like to see the Rangers beat out the Sabres but we all know that a Sens/Sabres East final would be a better series than NYR. I think the Sens are going to the cup final this year.

    Great call, Buffalo games were the easiest to get tickets for back then because no one wanted to go to the games

The exact same thing could be said for last year's Oilers. Hopefully the enthusiasm keeps up in both cities, though!

Management really let the Oil fans down this year...not only did they lose a lot of assets, but they hiked their tickets by 25% this year after the finals run...they hiked them again for next year, even though they didn't make the playoffs.
Wasn't Gary Bettman's salary cap supposed to ensure a more "fan-friendly" NHL...a lot of people can't afford to see one game a year!
Very disappointing to see the Rangers go down, but i'm very proud of them. Not a single person gave them a chance at the trade deadline, and yet they managed to not only make the playoffs but finished as the #6 seed, and were one of the last 6 teams still playing today. In this series too, down 2-0, they never gave up. The future looks bright too, the Rangers are a very young team led by 25 year old Henrik Lundqvist.
But it's still disappointing, especially with the way things ended in Game #5 (i'm sure SJ fans can relate!). They should have won game 2 in Buffalo as well. What a game today, especially that 3rd period, maybe the best period of hockey i've seen all year. Madison Square Garden was electric.
I'm looking forward to Buffalo/Ottawa, it should be a good one.
