They sure do, and I have to give my tickets away. Works sucks, on so many levels. I guess not having work sucks more though...
Wow, i definitely didn't expect the Rangers to come out of tonights game with 2 points. They outplayed the Bruins the first 15 minutes or so of the game, but from then on were downright awful. The top 2 lines, Nikolai Zherdev aside, couldn't generate any offense what so ever. The PP was pathedic...they had 2 5-on-3 PP's in the 2nd period, and could only manage to put 1 shot Tim Thomas' way. I was pretty frustrated by the 3rd period, but then the 3rd line of Nigel Dawes-Lauri Korpikowski-Dan Fritsche finally got the Rangers on the board, then Markus Naslund scores the huge goal to tie it with under a minute to play with Lundqvist on the bench, which sets the stage for Chris Drury's shootout winner.
And Henrik Lundqvist, i can't say enough good things about him. I was always a huge Mike Richter fan, but Lundqvist is far & away the best goalie i've ever seen between the pipes in NYC.
It's always a great night when the Canucks beat the Leafs! :jump :jump

It's a great night when anybody beats the Leafs.
Sports quote of the day (for me):
"I like the challenge of facing their best players" in the shootout, said Lundqvist, who agreed that he didn't really get that chance Monday night. Asked if he was surprised to see Ruutu lining up, the goaltender replied: "Heatley, Alfredsson - yeah, surprised. Not disappointed."
Heh.
Ruutu is an antagonizer, and a classic pain-in-the ass, sure. It can be argued that antagonizers have a necessary role in the league. (I'd be a hypocrite if I argued against, what with Avery being one of my favorite Rangers of the previous two seasons). But taking a second shot on a shootout "rebound" (if you can even call it that off of that weak clumsy whiff) and then breaking up the for-the-celebration at center ice, is a hack chump move. Whatever, scoreboard...
For some reason, Gainey is still chasing Sundin. I thought the got Lang do they didn't have to keep waiting on Mats. Fact is, somebody would have to get cut to make some cap space...
Quote:The Montreal Canadiens have renewed talks with unrestricted free agent Mats Sundin.
Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey met with the 37-year-old Sundin in California on Wednesday in hopes of restoring talks between the two sides.
Sundin has been working out in Los Angeles since early November, where he is expected to begin skating next week.
However, while Sundin is showing signs of returning, he hasn't made any decision yet.
In mid-September, the Canadiens acquired forward Robert Lang from the Chicago Blackhawks after deciding to move in a different direction from the Sundin sweepstakes.
"We had developed a priority and had we been able to entice Mats Sundin to comeback and play and comeback and play with the Canadiens, we would have done that as early as June of this summer," Gainey explained at the time.
"(Sundin) didn't give me any indication he was going to make a decision and my hockey department and I were not prepared to wait for a player who may or may not decide to play in November, December or January or February."
As many as 11 teams have recently expressed interest in Sundin's services, including the Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers.
Last season, Sundin enjoyed one of his best seasons, finishing with 32 goals and 46 assists for 78 points in 74 games and leading Toronto in scoring for the fourth straight year.

I hope they get him, they need someone who can score, they've been atrocious lately. I wouldn't have a problem cutting Lang, even though he's been playing fairly well for them, the only worry I have is Sundin's conditioning if he does play for them. It will probably take him about a month to get back to game shape once he returns, maybe even longer than that.
Something has to be done though, this team is once again embarking on their pre-Christmas sleeping act. I think Guy Lafleur needs to call them out again in the media.
My take is Gainey is going after Sundin mostly to demonstrate to his team that he's willing to make cuts. I don't know how serious he would be about taking on a player who basically sneered at his earlier advances. Gainey was the first GM in the league to tell Sundin to cut bait; it's odd for him to go talking to him again.
I really like the trade the Leafs made today, picking up Lee Stempniak from the Blues. Stempniak is off to a pretty good to the season, with 13 points in 14 games while averaging close to 21 minutes of ice time per game. He scored 27 goals two seasons ago, and i know the Blues were expecting big things from him last year. The expectation in the organization was that Stempniak would become a 40 goal scorer, but he instead slumped much of last season offensively. He's still just 25 years old & hasn't reached his full potential yet. Should be a solid addition to the Leafs.
^ It's a little strange that Fletcher is still making roster moves considering it sounds like he'll be replaced any day now, but nonetheless I agree it's a decent deal. After what Wilson had to say about Colaiacovo's latest injury I guess it was only a matter of time until he was moved.

Was Wilson being serious when he said it was Choliacovo's own fault he got injured cause he's out of shape? I thought he was kidding, but you can never tell with Wilson, he would say something like that and be serious about it.
Yeah Wilson is tough to read, but I thought it was serious.

It shouldn't take that long. If it did, Sundin must not be much of an athlete.
I like the Caps, but I'm very disturbed by their goaltending. Jose Theodore is just a worthless goalie. That's all there is to say about him. Maybe he'll go on one of his hot streaks for the Caps this season, maybe not. Either way, he's clearly one of the weak links on the team right now and it's difficult to imagine any team seriously contending for a cup with him in net.
Luongo being out is not good. Not good at all.

Yeah, Theodore has been bad since his second or third last year in Montreal. As for Sundin, I didn't really mean physical shape, but just his rhythm and timing and being able to adapt to the team and everything. Hopefully Luongo comes back, with Brodeur out this year, I don't see how they can rob Roberto of yet another Vezina again this year.

I know what you mean about Sundin. I just believe that it shouldn't take him a month or more to get back into the swing of things. I think he's probably in pretty good shape right now. I realize that being in hockey shape is a totally different thing, but I don't think it should take too long.
I see that another one of Patrick Roy's scumbag kids got suspended. Personally, I think that the majority of hockey players are scumbags, and it seems that the Roy family fits that bill. Seriously, a 15 game suspension means nothing. Players, whether in Major Junior, College, Midget, ECHL, IHL, AHL, NHL, ZHL, PHL, DHL, XHL, etc. should be BANNED FOR LIFE for a blatant act like Fred Roy pulled the other night. I'm sick of these guys acting like uncivilized goons and getting slaps on the wrist. :censored Hollweg has not only committed one act that should have banned him for life, but he's committed at least 15 acts of violence that should have banned him for life. It's a complete joke, really. I'm a big Pronger fan, but I can even admit that he has committed acts of violence that were despicable. Hockey is just a sport that attracts savages and violent people. I played rec hockey the other night and thought the game was relatively tame. Of course, near the end, I managed to still get a high stick in the chops and a teammate was slew footed twice. Remember the old saying, "It's not the band I hate.........." Well, "It's not the sport of hockey that I hate, it's just the players." :rambo:
On a positive note, WHAT A WIN TONIGHT FOR THE CANUCKS OVER THE WINGS!!! :jump
