No kidding eh. If Tkachuk goes for this much, what is Guerin worth?
Sabres came back, Ottawa wins. On to the next game. These are over.
Or should I still cry that Gilmour got "sick??" in the playoffs and we (sabers) got booted. Or Lafontaine/Mogilny/Hawerchuck tore up the leauge in points and once again, no cup. Or that the Sabres are the only team Bowman didn't get to the finals. Or Hull's foot was....Stupid rule anyway, he scored they won the cup..
SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY :x Both sides.
Coaches complain. Players fight. Fans hate other fans.
The leauge made changes that opened up the game (well at least last year, craps creeping back in). Let the players fight. Let them also stick up for their players like the game used to be.

I didn't say he was the most skilled but he is clearly a skilled player if he's leading the Sabres in goals.
BuffaloHipFan Wrote:The "run" that Ruff ordered did SO much damage.
It doesn't matter if it did damage or not. The fact of the matter is that Ruff sent players out and explicitly instructed them to "run" Spezza and Heatley. Then two days later the owner sends a letter to Bettman with these actual words:
Crybaby Golisano Wrote:The player in question was aware his presence was undetected but chose to deliver a vicious blow, which can only be construed as intent to injure.
Do you not see that as being hypocritical? Or do the hard working people of Buffalo who revel in making fun of those with speech impediments also happen to have a difficult time with the English language?
Between Golisano, Ruff, and Sabres fans in general I think you should petition your local government to re-name Buffalo "Napa Valley North". I think renaming the Sabres the
Napa Valley North Chardonnays is a great idea - it reflects the nature of Sabres fans in general, and it just has a nice ring to it.

Yeah! I hate it when people go to discussion forums and, you know, discuss things.

So why did you say what you did? I alluded to the fact that Briere was a more skilled player than Drury. Hence, Lindy Ruff lied when he said that his most skilled player got hit by Neil. I didn't say Drury had no skill; all I said was that he didn't have as much skill as Briere. Therefore, your response to my comment was meaningless since you just agreed with what I said in the above post. :rambo:

Apparently I overlooked the word 'most' in your original post. I thought you were referring to Drury as an unskilled player. My apologies.
das_hips Wrote:Even the Buffalo Sabres' owner is a whiny baby? It was a clean hit. Get over it. The comments made in the letter regarding "intent to injure", and the whole time-and-place requirement for a body check are ridiculous. I don't have any official statistics, but from what I have gathered watching hockey, I'd reason a good 80% of body checks are delivered after the player has ceased to retain possession of the puck. I suspect that we will receive notice of another letter from the owner following tonights game that strongly urges the League to consider the implentation of a foam puck, after Briere took a shot from a team-mate in the face.
And its good to see Peters leave the tampons at home, and fight a formidable opponent. Try as he might, he couldn't keep the helmet on this time.
Cferneyh and I have had several disagreements in the past, but I certainly have to agree with his response to that letter that just bleeds hypocrisy (while I have no evidence, I strongly suspect that that letter made the rounds at the League Head Office as the joke of the day).
tigerthelion Wrote:How can the way I feel about a team be completely unfounded? Does this mean that a fan of hockey has to be a fan of all the teams? I didn't state a fact about the Senators. All I was referring to was that the Sens and Sabres would be the last two teams in the NHL I would cheer for if I had a choice.
If you actually had read what I had written, you would have come to understand that I wasn't expecting you to be a Senators fan, or a Sabres fan, or even a Blue Jackets fan. All that I was implying was that the Senators and Sabres play exciting hockey, and your dislike for the Senators (which is, according to you, based on a Bryan Murray's speech impediment, and the tragedy Dany Heatley was involved in several years ago... I did use the term 'unfounded' when I described your rationale for disliking the Senators; perhaps I should have used the term 'ridiculous') shouldn't impede on your enjoyment of a good hockey game. Living where I do, I understandably possess a preconceived sense of dislike for both the Leafs and the Habs (mostly the Leafs, but time does heal wounds), but if the two teams play an exciting game, I'll watch. Thats the entire 'fan' aspect of the the game, not the team. Enjoying two rival teams play an exciting game of hockey doesn't make me less of a fan of my team, it makes me more of a fan of the game in general.
So you're a bigger fan of the "NHL" than I am. Big deal. I couldn't care less. I'm a fan of the Canucks. I'll watch a Canucks game against the Blue Jackets before I'll watch a Sens/Sabres game. Shoot me. My goal in life isn't to live up to the standards that "real hockey fans" have set. I do enjoy hockey other than the Canucks. I've even enjoyed watching the Leafs in the playoffs (especially that series against the Isles a few years back-that was tremendous action). If you want the truth, I'm not a huge fan of the NHL or any pro sporting league. I am a sports fan and watch the NBA, CFL, NFL, NHL, MLB but I'm certainly not hardcore. I don't have respect for the athletes so I'm only a moderate fan I guess. Oh well, I root for teams and see what happens and that's about it. Being happy for players who finally win a Cup or stuff like that- well, that's just not me.

Haha, no need to apologize.

It's all good.
Habs finally made a move, Rivet to San Jose. No surprise there, I knew he'd be the first out. At least we got a 1st Round pick back, thats always good.

Shame on the CBC for showing the Leafs & hapless Flyers game over the Sens & Sabres game.
They had plenty of time to switch schedueling after the intense brawl ottawa and buffalo had mid-week, and could have nationally broadcast the highly anticipated rematch.
Show the Toronto game in Toronto, and show the rest of the country what they want to see.
Maybe it's not a bad idea to give HNIC to TSN.

Yeah, my reckoning was that I would get to see the Ottawa game yesterday since I am in Montreal...and Montreal is closer to Ottawa than it is to Toronto (and since the Montreal game was already over). But no, they gave us the damn Toronto game.

Yeah....that was a pretty brutal decision. I understand the whole "Leafs are the largest national audience" rationale behind it, but you'd think once in awhile the hockey fans that work for HNIC would speak up and point out that once in awhile, let the better hockey game overrule finances.
You've got arguably two of the best teams in the East who are becoming bitter rivals, and there's a huge undercurrent in their game. And then you've got a team that is struggling to get into the playoffs against probably the worst team in the NHL. I mean it's a friggin no brainer.
Wouldn't there be some sort of legal ramifications involved in changing what games you are televising a couple of days before hand? I have no idea how it works but it seems like there might be some red tape and money involved in a change of games like that. I mean, these things are determined way back before the season starts right?
The problem you would have is that 20-25% of the Canadian population wants to see the Laffs play on HNIC, no matter who they are playing, no matter how bad they are playing. They continue to sell out every game no matter who they are playing, no matter how bad they are playing. It's almost not even about the hockey itself, but the name of the team. Similar to the Yankees in the U.S. Except the Yankees actually win sometimes.
