Thanks for taking care of Ottawa!

We here in Buffalo seem to have trouble with that one!

Go Sabres!

Ottawa has had a bit of a rough time of late. If I'm not mistaken they've lost 5 of their last 10 games. I love it!
Wow, another crazy game between the Flames and Greasers last night. I'm still amazed at how well the Oilers are playing, because they really shouldn't be this good. If you look at it on paper, the Flames are easily the more talented team, but until we get back to playing our tight defensive style (which is soon I hope), and until Iggy wakes his lazy $7 million ass up, I think these high-scoring Battles of Alberta are gonna continue. I'm sure it doesn't help that 2 of our top 6 defencemen are sidelined with various injuries, not to mention we're missing our #1 penalty killer and faceoff man (Stephane Yelle).

As for Iginla, before the season started I figured that if he didn't have a strong season, the Flames would be in trouble. All I can say right now is thank god for secondary scoring! Amonte, Langkow, Huselius, Phaneuf, Lombardi, and Donovan are all contributing huge right now, and we're finding ways to win games even though our superstar captain is totally invisible. Once he finally wakes up, I think we'll be unstoppable.

Iginla is still my favourite player in the NHL but you're right, he isn't playing well at all. He's practically invisible.

As of THIS MOMENT, I'd say my Canucks would have an uphill battle beating Nashville, Edmonton, Calgary, and Minnesota (if they make it) in the playoffs. Chris Pronger is a friggin machine on D for the Oilers. I watched some of the game last night. Whenever a Flames' player would come along the boards against Pronger they would just disappear. Pronger for my money is still the best D-man in the NHL.

BTW, direwolf, what do you think of Marchment? From what I've seen he's played well for the Flames but he is a dirty SOB. He even tried a dirty, low hit on Stoll last night.

Yeah, I saw the play you're talking about and thought the same thing. I'm not a big fan of the guy, but he hasn't been as bad as I thought he'd be. He's taken a few idiotic penalties here and there, but his overall defensive play has been surprisingly solid. Once we get Hamrlik and Warrener back, Marchment will be put back to 7th D-man status, which is where he belongs. And man, do we ever miss Yelle on the PK. I tell ya, that dude is such an enormous part of this team, and it's amazing how crappy our special teams are without him.

From the sounds of it, Yelle is EVERYTHING VANCOUVER FANS THINK LINDEN IS. haha... :thumb:
Man, did the Leafs ever make hard work of beating the Penguins the last couple games! Still, a win is a win, and it's nice to see my beloved Leafs reel off six in a row... especially now that they start a really tough stretch of their schedule. Lots of road games... the western Canadian road trip in itself is a real gauntlet. Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver will all be tough games.

Here's hoping the Leafs keep up their improved play. GO LEAFS GO!!! :thumb:

The Leafs are gonna have a rough time in Alberta. The Flames and Oilers have both been playing well lately. The Greasers, as much as I hate to admit it, are a pretty talented team. They've got crazy speed and have been scoring a heap of goals, while the Flames are currently grinding it out and finding ways to win even with 5 of their top players out with injuries. I'd wish ya luck, but I hate the Leafs about as much as I hate Edmonton and Vancouver. Friday's game should be a real barn-burner. My boys are gonna be well rested and I expect they'll come out flying. May the best team win!

I don't know about "improved." Aki Berg still makes me sick with anxiety every time he's on the ice. It's like the guy has no idea what proper defensive zone coverage is...plus he can't skate. McCabe and Kaberle have been decidedly more defensively aware, however.
when are the canucks gonna make a change either by trade or by getting rid of crawford..this is embarassing
Wings have been playing well this

Don't hold your breath. Nonis is the same as Burke. Nonis will wait until the Canucks are .500 to make a deal. Vancouver has had two gutless GM's in a row. If Nonis would stop eating donuts and realize that not every forward is UNTRADEABLE, a deal might get done. Nonis probably had makeable deals but knowing him, someone like scrub Matt Cooke or Ryan Kesler stopped the team from getting an impact player. Jovo should have been dealt before the season because he is jumping ship as a FA anyway at the end of the year and his STOCK WAS VERY HIGH. It was evident before the season that the Canucks needed a goalie but Nonis was stubborn again and believed Cloutier was the saviour.

I like your point about Crawford also. How many times does the team need to play like shit and come out unprepared for Nonis to realize that Crawford is losing his grip on the team (if he ever had it in the first place). I can't count how many times I've watched Canucks games this season where the opponent scores a goal within the first two minutes of the game and Vancouver players were totally unprepared.

Hell, an old decrepit Kolzig is better than what the Canucks currently have in goal. Also, their crappy defense would have been enhanced if they would have acquired Brendan Witt who wasn't going to cost them too much. Baumgartner is a career AHL'er who you would think was an ALL-STAR by the amount of time Crow plays him.
the thing about crawford is he always has something positive to say in the press conferences...say it like it crow..we're playing like shit...nobody believes what comes out of his mouth anymore....

...and Jovo with his "we just need to get better coming out and getting a good start and we'll work on it" rhetoric. There comes a time when you shouldn't have to keep saying it because you should actually put it into ACTION. Nonis is terrible.
Happy Hockey Day! (almost)

Should be a great day of hockey as usual, here's the schedule on CBC..

Ottawa at Montreal 2:00 p.m.
Toronto at Edmonton 7:00 p.m.
Calgary at Vancouver 10:00 p.m.

Anybody else going to watch all 3 games? I will be, but my wife is leaving the house she said she can't take that much hockey in one day. I can't blame her I guess, but she will watch the Habs game with me, she's a Habs fan too. But man they stink right now, they need a shakeup or something, this losing streak needs to end or were going to find ourselves out of the playoff race in a hurry. I haven't given up on them yet, but a trade might be in order soon, I can't see them firing Julien this early on, but if they did I probably wouldn't be that upset, either way we need help bad.

Anyway, it should be a fun day, lots of beer, food and hockey. Enjoy the hockey all! :thumb:
