Burden's on you, sorry. And biases also work both ways. No way in hell would I find an anti-Ottawa bias more credible than any other bias.

I want to know how it's different. Brian Burke gave a good explanation of the event. Two guys were hitting Holmstrom. It's not completely unreasonable to think that Rob's hit had something to do with the way Holmstrom's head went into the boards and it wasn't just some simple smashing into the glass from Pronger. Alfie hit a guy from behind and the guy went down. Pronger hit a guy, not from behind, and the guy went down but wasn't hurt bad. Like Burke said, if Holmstrom had his helmet on properly, he probably wouldn't have been cut. The bleeding was nothing anyway. It's ridiculously easy for a cut to form on the forehead.

Haha yeah but come on, it's Brian Burke. Nothing he says is taken seriously. In fact, on TSN they just called out his bullshit "height" excuse. Anyway, the intent was different. Detroit was up 4-0, Pronger was frustrated, and he had more malicious intent. And if intent isn't enough for you, it was also a direct head shot with an elbow, combined with the impact of Holmstrom's head being driven into the glass. Just because a guy isn't bent over, digging for the puck, doesn't mean it isn't from behind. Pronger's hit was just as "from behind" as Alfredsson's hit was.

"if Holmstrom had his helmet on properly..." - is this the shit Burke is spewing today? Interesting, blame the victim never fails.

"it's ridiculously easy for a cut to form on the forehead..." - the same way it's just, just so RIDICULOUS and, just so, just so OUTRAGEOUS that politicians were trying to score points off of Doan. Just, so....RIDICULOUS.
I think Pronger deserved the suspension, and 1 game was the right call. I can't comment on the Alfredsson hit though b/c i still haven't seen it.

I still think Prongers hit was dirtier than Alfredsson's hit and it has nothing to do with Alfie playing for Ottawa, that was a dumb comment. Pronger deserves the one game suspension, and got it. How many times this season have we seen someone get away with an identical hit that Alfie laid on Tallinder and nothing was done, why should it change now? So no, i'm not on Alfredsson's side because he plays for Ottawa, I don't even like the guy to begin with.
Both dirty. Hitting from behind is cowardly and uncalled for, regardless of whether the guy was hurt or not. This attitude that suspensions should only happen when a team loses a guy to the injury is ridiculous. Pronger's suspension was definitely deserved, and Alfredsson certainly deserved a penalty at the very least (but this sort of cowardice is not unknown to him).

I don't know what you are implying here. It was assinine that politicians brought up Doan's incident, if it even should be called an incident. Do you not like my use of the word 'ridiculous'? Whatever. :? Pronger got a suspension. Nothing I can do about it. That doesn't change the fact that Alfie has a history of dirty play.

What was your personal contribution to maintaining that #1 position?

I think you might be investing yerself a little too heavily....

I'll explain this once again. Sports fans when talking about the teams they root for often use the term "we" when identifying their team. Its not the first time it has happened. I will continue to use the term "we" when talking about the sabres or bills....

I dunno. Can you explain it again?

The way I see it, one team comes out the winner and the other the loser. The Sabres would be what we in the biz call "the losers." So that would make you a loser.

How does it feel to be a loser?

(Just a suggestion for the Buffalo fans who've subjected us all to a season of cock-crowing: next time, win the cup before starting with the bravado.)

I'm guessing he's used to being a loser, so it's like any other day.
Wow, I definitely wasnt expecting Buffalo to crumble like that in the playoffs, have to give credit to Miller though, he was awesome and kept this team in it longer than they deserved to be. The Sens look to be on a mission this year, especially Alfie, as much fun as it is to hate them (especially for Leaf fans) you got to give them credit, they look real good. Im not sure how they stack up against Anahiem or Detroit, but it should be a good cup final this year I think.
I'm so happy for the fans in this city right now. I'm ecstatic that (as Bryan Murray put it) the "ghosts of the past years are erased, if just for one day". I appreciate that this is probably the biggest sports-related event in recent times for the city (the 67's home-ice Memorial Cup win in 1999 was great, too. The Ottawa Lynx winning the International League Championship in 1995 was also quite satisfying, for the full 16 minutes that anybody cared). And I'm disapointed that all the naysayers, and the disenfranchised and impatient (and, I suppose, rightfully so) semi-fans in this city that screamed bloody murder, threatened dis-association, and demanded the immediate removal of Daniel Alfredsson, are probably too hammered to remember the brutal media and fan-endorsed slander that spread through the city like wild-fire in the early weeks of November.

I personally enjoy the play of 19 of the 20 players on the Buffalo bench; they're a good team (I personally detest Derek Roy, the lone Ottawa born player on Buffalo; I'm not sure who it was that said Alfredsson was a diver, but this Derek Roy fellow... he's booked for Beijing '08, and he's gold medal bound). I also am quite pleased that Lindy Ruff is gone. I'm not all that irritable, but everytime I see Lindy Ruff on the television machine, I achieve near 'Hulk'-like expansion in the veins on my neck. For the Buffalo fans... I think I know how you feel right now... I am a Senators fan...

For the record, this isn't cock-crowing (I'd hate to get into an arugment with Skippy when it isn't even campaign season; and I'm only passively cocky, like when the Senators are up 3-0), but as I have said before (during the Ottawa/Jersey series, and midway through the Ottawa/Buffalo series), Alfredsson will win the Conn Smythe... not because I'm biased, but because he has played that well... and that also makes me happy, because nobody (with the exception of Kovalev, and Samsonov) has been dumped on as much as Alfredsson by the Canadian media.

This drunken, and semi-legible post is done... it has been a long day here in Ottawa...

Well, Sens fans have the right to celebrate, so we'll allow you this one post. Smile

I'm thinking that all the Leafs fans who were predicting a swift exit for the Sens because "they always choke in the playoffs" may be pondering whether crow is best fried, broiled, or baked in a pie. Personally, I'd like to see Ottawa win all the marbles because (a) its nice when a Canadian team wins the cup and (b) Ottawa could use some marbles, as many people there seem to have lost theirs, particularly up on Parliament Hill.

For the record, though, I warned Sabres fans of the impending mockery a long, long time ago, when the Habs were still playing well. Like smokers, who never believe cancer will strike them, they ignored the warnings....
i hope the sens win the cup, then at least i can say my team was taken out by the champs and the jealousy it would wreak on leafs fans would elate me

Well, I hardly think it was just Leaf fans considering the equal distribution of the "who will win the series" votes, but regardless, das_hips can vouch that I was one of the ones who early on said the Sens looked good, and not only was I predicting a Sens win, but I was going to thoroughly enjoy it (despite the fact that I'm a Leaf fan) because of how truly obnoxious most of the Sabres fans who frequent this forum are. Between mocking Murray's speech impediment to calling Briere a "quitter" and slamming him for being French, they've represented the city of Buffalo well.

I'm pretty much torn when it come to who to cheer for for the Cup, regardless of who makes it from the west. Obviously the Sens are a divisional rival, a loathe the Wings (from way back in the Norris days), and I simply don't want to see Chris Pronger win a Cup - ever (Pronger is becoming increasingly unlikeable - him blaming the Canadian media for his suspension is the latest to be added to the list of idiotic things he's said or done over the course of his career).

But congrats to das_hips - one of the few true Sens fans I've come across anywhere. He's had to put up with a lot of crap over the years, and at this forum (especially from me). And I'll be the first to admit, if I could cash in the four Leaf wins over the Sens in the playoffs over the last ten years for ONE trip to the Cup final, I'd do it in a heartbeat. You bastard.
Big win for the Ducks. Selanne comes up in OT with a nice little goal. :rambo:

Glenn Healy said during intermission that Lidstrom is arguably the greatest defenseman of all time. Yep, just when I think the TSN commentators can't get any worse, they say something like that.

Funny how there was nary a mention of Lidstrom putting the puck in his own net with under a minute left in the game. It's funny how TSN just ignores Lidstrom when he makes a bad play. Interesting.
Lidstrom is one of the greatest D-men to ever play the game..one bad play does not ruin an entire career
