TDC's trade deadline wishilist for Montreal:
Hossa
Jokinen
Sudnin
Jagr
Boyle
Blake
Marleau
if they want to be a contender for real, i think they need to go after one of these guys...get Ryder the hell out of there, throw in a combo of picks/youngsters...even though i love him, trading Streit could work too, just because he becomes a UFA this summer I'm pretty sure.
Hey TDC, who does Sudnin play for, cause I've never heard of him.
In other news, there's a player for the Leafs, Mats Sundin, who will never be traded to the Habs in a million years. All it takes is a little history to know that these two teams don't like each other, and don't trade big names with each other.
(Gilmour was an exception. He was gonna retire anyway, and Montreal got a draft pick, T.O. got a sentimental player back for one game. It wasn't by any means considered blockbuster).

I know you likely mean Rob Blake and not Jason Blake, but if you want Jason Blake, call the old folks' home in TO where Fletcher is bunking for the next few months and offer him a used towel and a new water bottle, and you might have yourself a deal!
I hope he means Rob Blake..Jason Blake is one the most overpriced losers in the NHL and better yet he's a Leaf, its a perfect fit, some GM must need his head checked if he makes that trade unless he comes bundled with someone decent like Kaberle.
It seems the Habs have definite interest in Hossa I could see something possibly going down there depending on what Atlanta wants back. Olli Jokinen would be my first choice but I doubt Montreal would be able to give Florida what they want. Sundin would never waive his NTC to be a Hab thats a for sure not going to happen. I hate Jagr I want nothing to do with him, Kovalev's wishy washy ways are enough for this team, we dont need another one.
Gainey is pretty conservative with trades hard to see him pulling off the big one at the deadline, but if the team continues to push hard for 4th he just might make a move but dont be surprised if all we end up with is Fedorov from Columbus.(which I hope we dont.) I think they might just ride out this lineup and see how far it goes and try to dip into free agency again this summer, they would be smart to re-sign Streit, and what about Huet? His contract is up and he's going to be wanting a raise for sure, not sure if Price is ready to take the reins just yet.
In closing its nice to see the Leafs back at the bottom of the league, looking at the standings today brought alot of memories back, Habs near the top Leafs at the bottom, all I need now is a Pepsi and we got a commercial. Ahh the good ol days.....
GO HABS GO!

That's the problem, they can't sign any big name FA's because nobody wants to play in Montreal, they
need to make a trade for a big name. Give up Higgins, or Ryder, or Streit, maybe Sergei Kostytsen.. just make a deal. The team they have now, although they're up there in the east, doesn't have the depth to go far in the playoffs.

So wait for next year.
They can give up Ryder, or Higgins, or Streit without suffering any pain, but who would they get for those guys?
Why trade away Sergei Kostitsyn, who looks to work out better than his brother? You can't trade away all your draft picks and young prospects for a short term run at the playoffs and expect to be successful. The trade deadline pressures teams into making bad moves, and generally speaking those moves don't pan out too well.
If they can get a good deal for someone like Hossa, and it makes sense, then good. Otherwise, wait for next year. This team still has a lot of young players and frankly doesn't play well under pressure as a result. They choke -- that's why their road record is so much better than their home record, why the utterly hapless Leafs continue to beat them, and why they couldn't seal the deal last week against Ottawa. They're playing well, but they ain't gonna win any cups this year no matter who they trade for -- they need to solve
team problems with choking, not get themselves a big name.

I hear ya loud and clear, but I think the trend is going to change. Montreal showed last year they were willing to pay the big money for top players we just missed on Briere, so I think for the right price top players could be had. And hopefully the Habs can make some playoff noise this year and show were a team on the up not down like Toronto. With the crop of promising youngsters on this team and having Price who should turn out to be a solid no.1, the future looks solid and I think we should be able to reel in some good FA's for a change. Hey I could be way off, but I think if we stay competitive players will want to come, if not trades are the way to go. I could stand to part with Higgins, Sergei K. and definitely Ryder, if it means landing a Jokinen type player, but I really dont see it happening. I like Skippy's post, it makes sense..I say ride this lineup as far as it will go and build for next year when the team will have matured a bit. Ryder is the only one I can see going for sure, if not he definitely wont be back anyways.
Boy, when Luongo is not on his game, the Canucks sure look like an ugly team. :rambo: Naslund has screwed over this franchise for the past two years. I can't believe that he's a captain of an NHL franchise.

They do put a lot of pressure on their goalie. Personally, I think they're underachieving big time this season...but I bet Burke is loving it.
When L.A. wins in Phoenix and the Leafs lose in Boston tonight, we'll officially be the worst team in the league...rock-bottom...finally. Let the rebuilding begin.
*hug* it'll be ok...maybe...or maybe not...
What a game between the Nucks and Oilers tonite!!! Suck on that Edmonton..cheap dirty bastards!!

Why do you call the Oilers "cheap dirty bastards"? I didn't see the game because I was watching boxing but are you aware of the scum that resides on Vancouver? Matt Cooke ring a bell? Or how about stick swinging Burrows? Now, I have no doubts that some guys on the Greasers are dirty but the Canucks have probably the biggest coward and dirtball going in Matt Cooke. (Simon will resume his #1 in the dirtbag rankings when he officially returns).
Feel free to correct me, though. I did not see the end of the game. I'll catch the highlights later.

ya, that was a pretty girly looking stick lashing from burrows (i think it was him) last night...
