Yay! Flames snap their losing streak with a big win against Minny! I still hate shootouts though.
10 in a row. Hot damn what a fine team I have as a favorite :x
Really, it's not that hard. Clear the puck. Nope can't do that. Clear the front of the net. Nope. Pass...to your own team. Nope. How about score. Well they may have that one. Oh wait, the puck has to actualy hit the net area. argghhhh. Sad thing is the Sabres still can sneek in. But not if they play like they have. First to worst BABY :thumb:
Ramage sentenced to 4 years in fatal 2003 crash

Former NHL player Rob Ramage on Thursday was sentenced in an Ontario court to four years in prison for his role in the death of ex-Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Keith Magnuson.

Magnuson, 56, died instantly on Dec. 15, 2003, when a rental car driven by Ramage, 48, veered into traffic and struck two vehicles near Vaughan, Ont., just north of Toronto. Magnuson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 2003 crash killed former NHLer Keith Magnuson.
(Saul Porto/Canadian Press) Before his sentencing in Newmarket, Ramage called Magnuson "a dear friend and mentor."

The former Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman added, "I can only imagine what a loving husband and father he was [and] by the grace of God, I stand here today."

Ontario Superior Court Justice Alexander Sosna called the accident "tragic and senseless."

While Sosna said Ramage was an "exemplary citizen," he insisted the sentence needed to send a harsh message to the public.

Ramage will also be prohibited from driving for five years after he serves his term.

Ramage's wife broke down and cried when the sentence was handed down.

Ramage's lawyer, Brian Greenspan, said outside the courtroom that he would appeal both the conviction and sentence later Thursday at the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Greenspan expects Ramage to be released so he can return to his family in St. Louis while awaiting the outcome of his appeal.

The prosecution presented scientific evidence that revealed Ramage's blood-alcohol level was four times the legal limit, despite the fact none of the hundreds of people at an earlier reception could say he had one drink.

The defence contended blood and urine tests were faulty and any smell of beer on Ramage occurred from the exploding cans in the accident.

In October, Ramage was found guilty of five charges, including impaired driving causing death, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison. The Crown had asked for a sentence of between three and five years.

Magnuson's family, which in November was awarded $9.5 million US in a wrongful death lawsuit, asked the judge at a December sentencing hearing to give Ramage to community service instead of jail time so he could speak at schools about drinking and driving.

Ramage, captain of the Leafs from 1989 to 1991, also played for the Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens during his 15-year NHL career. He was free on bail while awaiting sentencing.

Magnuson was a rugged defenceman for the Blackhawks from 1969-80, and coached the team for 1½ seasons. He played in 589 games over 11 seasons, all with Chicago.

I heard 6 weeks, but you never know with these kinds of injuries. Bettman and the league must be thinking about suicide right now. Next to an all-Canadian Stanley Cup final, this is probably their worst nightmare come true.
sad to hear Don Whitman passed away. Sad
Oh man i hadn't heard that, very sad. Don was one of my favorites, I didn't even realize he was sick until Don Cherry had the little tribute to him on Coaches Corner last weekend.

you must stone sober then, what a frustrating game..we cant buy a goal!

:x
Yeah, Wittman was pretty good. I actually didn't mind listening to him.

Tough break for the Pens. I just wish they stopped saying that it's gonna be tough for them losing the best player in hockey. At least Crosby is top ten. I'll give him that much, anyway. :rambo:
Another loss for the Rangers this afternoon at the hands of the Bruins.
This is by far the most frustrating season i've endured as a Rangers fan. I was so optimistic going into this season following the Rangers playoff run last spring, and of course the signing of both Scott Gomez (who's been terrific) and Chris Drury (who's been horrible)...but truth is, this is a bad team in need of a serious shake-up of some sort.
Chris Drury has been invisible on most nights this year, Brendan Shanahan had a good start, but is definitely showing his age now, same goes for Jaromir Jagr, the defense is struggling, Henrik Lundqvist hasn't been on top of his game, etc.

If I'm Glen Sather, I either fire Tom Renney or make a deal asap. If the Rangers don't turn things around quickly, at least it would make the trade deadline a lot more interesting with potential UFA's like Jaromir Jagr, Michael Rozsival, Brendan Shanahan, Marek Malik (who's been a healty scratch about 30 games this season), etc all likely to be dealt.

GO HABS!

I know the game was 4 days ago, and I know that the Habs lost...but I thought I should check in and see what type of tragic reaction there was from Leaf fans when they found out that there game was not the national broadcast...surprisingly there is no commentary...how refreshing.
Here's some more commentary from William Houston:
