i cant beleive that i stayed up this late to watch this game
i'm usually not one to bitch about the refs, but the leafs/canucks game was probably the worst called game i've seen all year
some of the calls/non-calls were horrible.......i'm going to bed, hopefully to forget tomorrow moring about how mad i am tonight
is there a game where quinn and the leafs don't bitch about the refs??
opiated Wrote:is there a game where quinn and the leafs don't bitch about the refs??
Nope. I'm a Leaf fan (and a ref) and this is one thing I am tired of coming out of Leaf Nation.

Ottawa's changing the name of their rink.. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=150322&hubname=">http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=150322&hubname=</a><!-- m -->
I dont live in Ottawa, but if you guys need a nickname for the rink, you can call it "the vault" I wish Montreal's arena was still the Molson Centre I liked calling it "the keg", now its a phone booth, :lol:
It's always refreshing to see the Canucks beat the Leafs. They usually lose so it's nice to see the Nucks pull one out.
As far as the refereeing goes, Opiated is correct. It has been horrid most of the year. I've noticed more stuff being let go by the refs but they still make horrendous calls. I don't understand why refs call the bs penalties when someone like Ruutu, Avery, Cooke, Tucker, most of Ottawa's team, Crosby(although they have called a few dives on him which is good) embellishes. Most of these cases are BLATANT, yet the refs still fall for them. I'm a Canucks fan but I can't stand to see Ruutu going around and refusing to fight after he cheapshots a guy. I just can't stand pests anymore. It's a cheap way to win. Most teams have a pest but obviously some are bigger rats than others. For instance, I'm a big fan of Barnaby but maybe that's because he's not a coward.....
Anyway, yeah, nice to see the Canucks beat the Leafs. Of course it was the refs' fault. Every Leaf loss is someone else's fault right? Fingernailsonhull, congrats on having an independent thinking mind and calling things like they are. I'm a Canucks fan and can't stand at least 5 players on the team. I know the Flames got screwed the other night against the Canucks but that's how she goes. Some nights the Canucks get screwed. It happens to every team. Of course, it doesn't happen EVERY GAME like Leaf fans think.
Strange western Canada road trip for the Leafs.
They play well in 2 games, Calgary and Vancouver, and lose.
They play lousy in Edmonton (except for Tellqvist), and win.
WTF?
Oh well, I'll just shake my head to help clear my mind, and wait for the Leafs to defeat the Coyotes on Saturday. Sorry Gretz...
Little late on this...
Congrats to the Flyers for being the first to hit 60 points!
The latest hockey talk.. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=150638&hubname=">http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=150638&hubname=</a><!-- m -->
Theodore for Bertuzzi...I dont what to make of that, we could use a guy like Bert in our lineup, but does that mean Huet (who has played awesome lately) will be our no.1? Seems unlikely, but I expect Gainey to do something soon this slump is getting bad, and Im getting more pissed off by the day. :x

i don't believe that would happen for a second...bert's not goin anywhere, unless we plan on getting rid of naslund as well...
I was watching the Leafs/Flames game this past week and when I saw Marchment go knee-on-knee with Allison I said "Oh F*uck, here we go again" Marchment has taken out SO MANY players througout his career with bush league knee-first cheques it's crazy...his hit list is really long...I am so glad that he came out on the wrong end of the shit-stick this time...torn ACL and MCL...good riddance ya hack!!!

Yeah, finally some justice! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. (note sarcasm) :roll:
Regarding that TSN article, what do you guys, especially direwolf, think of this passage?
"Dion is our best player, and it's not even close." - Flames coach Darryl Sutter on rookie D Dion Phaneuf
Is Sutter on meds? The last time I checked, the Flames still had a guy named Iginla on their team, and have a guy named Kiprosuff on their team. I'm sure this was taken out of context though. Maybe he means Phaneuf has been their best player the last month or so. Phaneuf has been very good but he's still a rookie and you can't honestly rate him ahead of Iginla as a player, even with Iginla's struggles this season.

Sutter's quote was indeed taken out of context. He was talking specifically about the Flames' lackluster play of late, and that Phaneuf has been their most consistent player over the last few weeks...and he's right on the money. As for Iginla and Kipper, they both had solid games against the Islanders the other night. Too bad the rest of the team took the night off (just like they did against the Rangers two days earlier). Sutter does this all the time. He's basically calling out certain players and telling them that they'd better get their asses in gear or they'll be watching the next game from the pressbox. I love it when he does that, because they almost always respond the very next game. I expect you'll see a completely different Flames team tomorrow night against the Wild than the one we saw in the last two games.

Thats great news as far as Im concerned, Julien just wasn't getting it done and I think this is a good move. Hopefully this will breathe some life into the team, we need help. I still think a trade is in order. Looks like Luongo rejected the $30mil offer from Florida, Id take him over Theo anyday. I keep hearing Vancouver is going to try to get him...stay tuned on that one.
