LMAO.. Im gettin tired of Cole- sorry but its time to put him out to pasture. I tell you, if you watch the Habs games in french than turn back to cbc its seems so boring, those french announcers are so exciting, too bad I cant understand half of what they say.
I love Cole's voice, but man, he's completely senile. Tonight he spent half the game calling Antropov "Lindros", and in Belak's 2nd shift (when he got in the fight) he called it Belak's first shift, despite telling a story during Belak's first shift about how Belak was originally going to be scratched but Kilger got scratched instead. Have another scotch Bob!
Stellar victory for the Leafs tonight. That's 6-2 since Captain Clutch came back. Also, that makes the "marginal" Leafs 12-7-2. And the "marginal" Jason Allison had another 2 points tonight, giving the "marginal" Jason Allison 21 points in 21 games.
Dear Steve Simmons,
You are an ass and you don't know what you are talking about. Since you obviously don't know hockey, may I recommend you ask the Sun to change your assignment from bashing the Leafs to covering youth soccer or high school chess.
Best regards,
A Leaf fan who is very, very, very happy Jason Allison is a Leaf and Gary "Pulled Groin" Roberts isn't.

Sakic: "The game is what it was supposed to be a long time ago," said Sakic. "It's the way it was when I first broke in --a lot more flow, a lot more exciting for the fans. We're enjoying ourselves a lot more.

And in today's Globe, Shanahan called people who call it the No Hit League "clowns".
Well, at least Stevie Y has a brain. :thumb:
He also happens to be the guy who is the least productive of the three so far this year. Gee, I wonder if that is a coincidence.
Yeah, I agree that has something to do with it.

However, I still think he spoke the truth. The refs have been letting the play go a little more the last few games I've watched so maybe the intensity and physical play will eventually come back.....here's to hoping anyway....
Kovalchuk with another goal tonight..
Also, big ups to Don Cherry tonight. I don't always agree with him but tonight he was dead on. If Crosby stops taking dives, he might get some more calls. :thumb:

Kopahawsky's (Ponikarovsky) first goal tonight was sad. Both Atlanta goalies were horrible. With good goaltending that could have been a very close game tonight.
I think my rec goalie is better than anyone Atlanta has on their active roster at the moment.

Man, you have a serious hate on for Crosby, don't you?
As for Bohonos, statements like Cherry's about guys like Bohonos kill me. The Leafs weren't the only team in the NHL to pass on him. Anyone could have had him when the Leafs dropped him, but no one bothered. Not only that, but last year he lost his job in Swiss league because of all the NHLers that showed up.
Cherry's lobbying to get more Canadians on the Leafs is tiresome. The other week he was whining that the Leafs didn't have Spezza, Heatley, or Staal. Well Don, considering Spezza went #2, Heatley went #1, and Staal went #2, when exactly could the Leafs have drafted them? Last I checked, they haven't had a top 5 pick since 1989. Kinda makes it difficult to draft the top prospects.
Don Cherry's Crosby bashing has gotten really really old. He was bashing him last year because he didn't want to play in the top prospects game and he's bashing him this year for taking dives. He's an exciting young player who I feel has proven that he is and can be a great player, and he isn't afraid to play a little rough either despite his size, remember that hit he layed on Ovechkin in the world juniors last year. I think Don dislikes him because he wears a visor, because we all know real men don't wear visors, just those whimpy Europeans and French guys  yep I would much rather have Lonny Bohonos than Crosby on my team anyday.
i have NHL centre ice so i've seen a lot of games..(most of them shitty and boring...)..but i would take ovechkin over crosby at this point in the year..he just seems to be a better all around player

Who said anything about comparing Bohonos and Crosby??
As for Bohonos, he's no All-Star. Grapes was just saying the Leafs keep other shitty bums like Antropov and Hoglund and Reichel no matter how they produce(d).
I've disagreed with Grapes on many occasions. IF you only knew how many times I've praised greats like Jagr to the worshipping Grapes' fans who go along with his belief that Canadian players are better no matter what. I remember a Coaches Corner where Cherry blasted Jagr for not playing through an injury in the playoffs and Joe Sakic had a similar injury and missed a large portion of playoff games also. Strangely, there was no bashing Sakic because, well, ya know he's Canadian and all.
I don't hate Crosby. I just think he dives. I know he dives. I saw the clips Cherry showed and he dove on the first clip for sure. Hatcher gave him a facewash and then Crosby snapped his head back AFTER Hatcher let up. The second high stick Hatcher should have gotten a penalty on but the ref had a bad angle and wasn't sure if Crosby was embellishing or not.Don was also correct about the Pens being pussies. When the golden child (Crosby) gets hit, aren't you supposed to stick up for him as teammates??? Where was the muscle?? I thought Crosby was going to get protection this year.
No question Ovechkin has been more impressive this year IMO. He hits and somehow manages around a point a game while playing on an AHL level team in the NHL.
opiated Wrote:i would take ovechkin over crosby at this point in the year..he just seems to be a better all around player
I agree, Ovechkin has more scoring ability imo, I just hope his career doesn't get stunted by playing with a crappy team like Washington, unless they change things there you know he's bolting at the first opportunity, I would. Crosby has great talent too, but I would rather build a team around Ovechkin, you put that guy on the ice with a good playmaker like Forsberg and he would just destroy teams.
tigerthelion Wrote:As for Bohonos, he's no All-Star. Grapes was just saying the Leafs keep other shitty bums like Antropov and Hoglund and Reichel no matter how they produce(d).
Sure, the Leafs keep shitty bums. But ALL teams have shitty bums (coughcoughtrevorlindencoughcough). The point that I'm trying to make is that if Bohonos was so good - and better than the shitty bums - then why didn't anyone else pick him up? He couldn't have been that good if NO OTHER NHL TEAMS signed him.
And why is it that its up to the Leafs to keep the NHL dream alive for anyone born in Canada?
Anyway, I find it funny that since the Leafs are playing well and winning games and since the UFAs they brought in are playing well, the critics are left with such gems as: "why didn't they keep Lonny Bohonos?"
Man, it sounds like being a Leafs fan is really frustrating, seems no matter what the team does its not right, the media really picks on you guys. Montreal isn't a whole lot better, the media there has a history of running players out of town and putting the team under an unfair microscope, but I have more respect for a journalist like Red Fisher than Simmons or Strachan, Fisher has been following the Canadiens closely for decades his opinions are well respected, Simmons is a goof. Hey just be glad we don't live in England, you can't sneeze there without someone finding out, they are brutal there for press. And about what cferneyh said, every team has a couple fringe players or bums, everyone can't be a first line star, but the fact is we dont work for the teams we dont see everything that (lets use T.O as an example) what Quinn the coaching staff, scouts and JFJ sees, maybe the kid needs to work on a part of his game still, maybe he isn't strong enough yet or maybe he has a bad attitude who knows? Lots of players can score goals in minor hockey, its usually something else thats holding them back. As for Cherry he knows his hockey and sometimes is right and sometimes he's talking out his backside, I dont know enough about this Bohonos kid to really comment, but let the team run itself, if Cherry is so smart why didn't he stay in coaching or become a GM himself? Why hasn't a team offered him more money than the CBC to pry him away from his desk...I guess its easier to talk for 10 mins once a week and make $400,000 bucks a year than to deal with the pressures of winning in the NHL, so I don't blame him really.
from what i saw, the olny reason they were talking about Bohonos, was because he broke his neck, and cherry took it upon himself to maybe try and lighten the guys spirits by showing some highlights as he probably wont play again
farmerdan69 Wrote:from what i saw, the olny reason they were talking about Bohonos, was because he broke his neck, and cherry took it upon himself to maybe try and lighten the guys spirits by showing some highlights as he probably wont play again
Yeah, I was under the impression that Bohonos was only brought up because he suffered a serious injury. Grapes is a big Toronto fan. He doesn't criticize them just for the sake of criticizing them. It's not like Toronto doesn't deserve most of the criticism they get anyway. They haven't exactly accomplished too much. They are the most rabid hockey city in the world, of course there is going to be a lot of critcism and attention. Instead of talking about Toronto, maybe more people could talk about the year Carolina is having or how terrible Linden and Cooke are or.....

did i see linden score on a penalty shot??? amazing!!!
that first period was a joke...ten power plays!!!!!
