He was kinda in a lose lose situation this season. Nothing he could have done would have been good enough. Upper management (who are really to blame) are using him as a scapegoat.
Anyway, I think they could have done better than Fletcher as a replacement, whose best days might be behind him.

See any of the live conference?? My god Fletcher looks like a walking corpse........

I was really hoping that after Bowman came out a couple weeks ago that the wheels would have been in motion to get him.

I will give it a bit of time before I come to an opinion. Fletcher is/was responsible for some of the best hockey years in Toronto, but the game and CBA has changed quite a bit since then.....
Fletcher is only the interim GM...the search is now on for a real replacement. This is much like what happened when they fired Rob Babcock as GM of the Raptors, replaced him with some old guy to finish the season and then hired Colangelo. It makes sense as the best candidates for the job are currently employed elsewhere, and you'd have a better chance convincing them to jump ship once the season is over. Hopefully this is the route they are taking...
I see that Malkin was FINALLY added to the All-Star team. :rambo:

Nice to see Scott Niedermeyer make the AS team. Since he's played 17 friggin games and all. What a joke.
From CBC:
"After full consideration of the Leafs' situation, it has become clear that change and a new direction is needed," Richard Peddie, president and CEO of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, said during a Tuesday afternoon news conference. "Regrettably, we did not win enough games to reach our goal, winning the Stanley Cup."

Too bad. And they were so close!

In my opinion, it's time for Peddie to get the old hook. He was a bigger problem than JFJ.
The Atlanta Thrashers, man that had to be the worst line change i've ever seen. Did you guys all see that? The Rangers were shorthanded & Chris Drury just back handed the puck off the glass & out of the zone, it came to a stop right by the Thrashers bench, and then 4 different Thrashers skated slowly to the bench for a change & let Marty Straka pick up the puck & skate in all alone & score to make it 3-0.
And that was a dirty hit by Ilya Kovalchuk, not sure what his beef was with Michael Rozsival. He layed a shoulder into Rozsival...Rozsival looked dazed on the hit, got up slowly but couldn't get off the ice, went back to the corner, played the puck behind the net to Malik & then Kovalchuk just plasters him from behind into the boards, leaving his feet.
Woohoo! Flames are back in 1st place! (if only for a couple of days).
This division is so damn tight, I have a feeling it's gonna come down to the last game of the season to determine who finishes where. I wish Calgary could play Minnesota every night.

Luongo is in a slump right now, which is bad news for the Canucks. Sad It's too bad that Luongo has to pretty much singlehandedly win games for an NHL franchise but that's the way it goes.

Does anyone think Ovechkin will have mercy on the Leafs tonight? I sure hope not. Big Grin
Man, did St. Louis ever get screwed on that quick whistle/no goal call last night. On the bright side, the Canuckleheads have used up all their games in hand and the Flames are still 1 point ahead.

I just saw the highlights. I tend to agree that St. Louis got shafted. Vancouver won the game in the dreaded, circus show shootout, though, so that's alright. Still, the Canucks seriously need a forward on their roster who is capable of putting the puck in the net like a true top 6 NHL forward SHOULD.

Sundin to the Canucks!!!!! :jump

The Habs are kind of interesting here ... there's still plenty of time left for the wheels to fall off, but at the break they're trailing only the Red Wings, Sens, Stars and Ducks on points, despite the fact that they haven't had a credible offensive star since Guy Lafleur.

To me the interesting thing is that they haven't done that using the usual defensive formula (Devils). Only four teams have outscored them, despite the fact that their top scorer, Kovalev, is nowhere near the scoring leaders.

So I asks ya, is having a star forward overrated?

Well that is a rumour out there floating around right now. Sundin for Kesler and a top prospect (Schneider or Bourdon), plus potentially a couple draft picks.................

This was from a Vancouver paper as well................take it with a grain of salt, but very intriguing if you ask me..........

If I was Fletcher, thats a pretty nice offer, particularly if Sundin ended up being just a rental player. But I hear that is part of the deal as well, Sundin must be willing to sign for at least another year with the Canucks

GOTTA LOVE THE RUMOURS!!
