Just for the record, the Canucks still suck. :rambo: Boy, that Sundin guy is awesome. :what :?
emperor penguin Wrote:I hope they get him, they need someone who can score, they've been atrocious lately. I wouldn't have a problem cutting Lang, even though he's been playing fairly well for them, the only worry I have is Sundin's conditioning if he does play for them. It will probably take him about a month to get back to game shape once he returns, maybe even longer than that.

I'm sure glad we didn't get him in retrospect, especially the way Lang's been playing.

On a high note, I got to watch a phenomenal performance by 37 year old Shane Mosley as he destroyed a guy was a huge favourite over him in the betting odds, got to see Fedor KTFO Arlovski in the Affliction main event, and just watched a heck of a fight between Varner/Cerrone in the WEC main event. Great weekend for sports other than hockey! :jump :jump

LET THE FLAMING BEGIN!! :rambo:

haha I saw the Arlovski fight, and my question is, why would Arlovski even be allowed to fight Fedor? Arlovski lost twice to Tim Sylvia, and had to quietly leave the UFC in disgrace, and Fedor is probably the best heavyweight in the world, it seemed like an odd match-up to me.

As for the NHL allstar game, its everything you complain that the game isn't anymore, no goons, no payed fighters, just skill and talent on display.

For starters, AA was ranked in the top 5 at HW in the world. Thus, he deserved the match. The Sylvia losses are embarrassing, but he had been on a winning streak before the Fedor fight and looked good in dismantling Rothwell (a top 12 HW) and Nelson (top 15 HW). AA didn't leave the UFC in disgrace at all. Dana White is just an ass. Besides, the UFC is NOT THE BE ALL AND END ALL, like so many fans believe. Half of the top 10 HW fighters aren't even in the UFC, and despite Dana's consistent bashing of Fedor, deep down Dana knows the real deal. Dana knows that Fedor would have crushed Couture had they fought. Fedor is the best MMA fighter in the world. There's no question about that. UFC fanboys think Anderson Silva is,but they're just clueless f*cks.

Skill and talent can't be properly measured when there is no resistance. In other words, it's easy to look skillful when nobody is defending you. As for your comment, I don't know why you say that. My biggest problem is that way too many penalties are being called and that you can't clear the crease like you should be able to these days without getting a penalty. That has nothing to do with goons or fighters.

I wasn't aware that Arlovski had rejuvinated himself, I do think he has a glass chin however, but I would agree that some of the best fighters in the world are outside of the UFC, on a similar note, Go St. Pierre this weekend!!

Anyways gettng back on topic, I can understand how you and a lot of other poeple don't like the allstare game, I happen to like it, I thought you mentioned in the past that goons and fighters like Ruutuu don't belong in the game, and I would definitely agree with that. My point was that it's nice to see in the allstar game, guys being able to play free of that kind of stuff, and having some room on the ice to skate and make nice plays. Although it is true that there is no oppositon, I still ike watching some of the passes and end to enders, and breakaways that an allstar gasme offers.

Oh, yeah, I agree about Arlovski's chin. It is pretty weak.

Go Penn! I think GSP will probably win, but I can't stand the guy. I'm rooting for Penn all the way in that one.

I mentioned that pests like Ruutu, Cooke, Avery, etc. don't belong in the game. It's cool that you like the All-Star game. A lot of people like watching it.

Anyway, it's a pretty sad state of affairs when Shanahan is making Sundin look like a hack. :? Shanny was inactive all year, played one practice with the Devils, and scored a goal in his first game. He has two goals in three games and is a +1. Sundin has two goals and an assist in eight games, and is a -5. Also, Sundin has been getting untimely penalties and has really been a detriment to the Canucks. I didn't want them to sign him, then I kind of warmed up to the idea, and now I realize why I didn't want him in the first place. :x It also doesn't help that Vigneault is a dumbf*ck and that Luongo has been playing like sh*t since he came back from injury, and the Sedins have disappeared, like they so often do when the going gets rough. :?
So cool that this thread is approaching year 4....

What the hell is with the wings? Why the hell did they sign that pretty boy until he's 40?

I wouldn't question the decisions of the Red Wings organization. That team usually ends up at or near the top. :rambo:

Sundin still sucks, by the way.

Dont you have anything better to do than make little jerk-off posts on some band's website? Go get a real job.

:welcome back.
I had the pleasure of being in attendance last night as the Leafs raised #93 to the rafters for Doug Gilmour. He may not have been a Leaf for long, but while he was here he was absolutely dominant. Next stop, the Hall of Fame. Compared to the ridiculousness that was Trevor Linden's jersey retirement in Vancouver earlier this season, it really wasn't much of a ceremony - the whole thing was over in about 10 minutes. I think every team needs to follow the Habs' example when it comes to these things, they always seem to do it right.

As for the game itself, it was a pretty good one, although there was some terrible goaltending at both ends of the ice. Luke Schenn deservedly earned the first star, with several big hits (including one where he absolutely crushed Malkin), a fight, and a great play coming in off the blueline to set up a Leafs goal. :thumb:
It was truly fantastic to see the Bruins beat the sissy Habs yet again. :jump :jump
How does Bryan Murray still have a job as General Manager of the Sens? It boggles my mind and it's truly a joke. The Senators have turned into a complete joke, with a joke of an owner who is too cowardly to fire the only man who really deserves to be fired - Mr. Bryan Murray. Oh well, I can't say that it makes me sad to see the Sens suck so bad. The Canucks suck but at least they're not the Sens.
10-2, ouch. That definitely has to be the low point of the Rangers season so far. To their defense, the team has been hit hard by the flu the last couple days, including goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. I felt bad for Valiquette, he was forced to stay in for all 10 goals against last night...he's been a servicable backup for the Rangers the past couple years, but last night he was just plain awful.
I wish there was someway they could get out of Wade Redden's contact, that's brutal. I can't believe he's still owed $6.5 million a year for like 5 more years, he isn't worth half that. He's been outplayed this year by Staal, Mara, Girardi, Rozsival...everyone but Dmitri Kalinen really.
Nikolai Zherdev has been the lone bright spot this season as far as forwards are concerned. The offense has been horrible, currently 29th in the league in goals-per-game...yeah, there was no room for Jaromir Jagr on this years squad

One final note...the guy is an asshole and i can't believe i'm saying this, but i kind of hope Sean Avery does go back to NY. The team needs a spark, and if he plays like he did during his time with the Rangers, Avery is worth the $1.9m.

It's too bad he's let cocaine ruin his career, he used to be a really good defenseman, that was his downfall in Ottawa and the reason Emery now plays in Russia.
Pro: I didn't waste my money on the Oilers/Wings tickets yesterday, as they were a gift.
Con: I'm not going to get those five hours of my life back.

You want to talk horrible contracts, how about Horcoff for something like 7 million with bonuses next year, and Penner for 4 mill. I wish I could quit these guys.
I have to admit that Sundin has been playing well in the last week or so. :what
tigerthelion Wrote:I have to admit that Sundin has been playing well in the last week or so. :what

It sure took him a while but it looks like he's finally up to speed. Assuming they do make the playoffs the Canucks might be a good sleeper pick to do some damage in the west. With the Sedins and Sundin-Demitra-Kesler they've got two solid scoring lines, plus guys like Burrows and Bernier to pitch in some extra offence now and then. Their D is pretty solid and as long as Luongo is healthy there's nothing to worry about in net. I think their biggest problem is terrible coaching. I can't believe Vingneault wasn't fired during their January losing streak.
