I hope Montreal is doing somethign to land BRAD RICHARDS...former Conn Smythe winner, WCH2004 winner, leads by example on the ice,, he's my top pick for Montreal...

send them Ryder and ANYTHING else they want, get the deal done, worry about whatever needs to be replaced in the offseason...

after that, Jokinen, Hossa, Havlat, and that's about it almost, if they can't get one of those 4 guys... i don't think they should bother with anything... except for maybe Latendresse's brother from Phoenix.

*edit* and/or Koivu from Minnesota...don't think that would happen though.

I'm glad you're not the GM.

The only deal worth making is a good deal.
cochise Wrote:Great, so Kaberle, Kubina, Sundin, Tucker and McCabe, all refuse to go. I didn't realize this team was so content with mediocrity.

Sundin aside, no one else named above should have ever been given a NTC. The concept that Kubina or Tucker, who both should be embarased about their performance this year, are saying "nope sorry, too bad, don't wanna move"........

The thing about NTC's, Cliff Fletcher has estimated that about 100 players NHL-wide have them, so it isn't solely a Leaf thing. Guys want to have a say in where they end up, so they negotiate the NTC, and I don't blame 'em. I mean who'd want to be traded to Edmonton?!? It isn't the NTCs that bug me - it's the no movement clauses where players can't even be sent to the minors if they start sucking total ass - those are the ones that I don't like.

I'm not surprised Tucker doesn't want to move - he'll never, ever, ever have it better than he does in Toronto, where he's a total folk hero.

I'm surprised Kaberle doesn't want to be moved. He's an All Star d-man in the prime of his career. You'd think he'd want the chance to be part of something better when he's at this stage of his career.

But I did read just now that McCabe is playing the injury card (because as we all know, no other NHL teams have injuries) and he's claimed the Leafs are just a couple players away from being a better team. I'm assuming by a couple of players he means Gretzky and Orr in their primes.
Forsberg back in the NHL.

From what i read last night, i was expecting the Forsberg announcement to come down tonight, only figured it was the Philadelphia Flyers that he would be joining.
Definintely glad he's going back to Colorado rather than joining the Flyers.

The Avs will in a battle to make the playoffs, currently 4 points with 1 game in hand, but they should definitely get a boost, not only from the return of Peter Forsberg, but also with players returning from the IR. Joe Sakic, Paul Stastny and Ryan Smyth have all returned in the past few days.
Well we (we being the Leafs) have made our big move so far eh...........Belak to Florida for a 5th round pick............now THAT is what I call blockbuster!!
Trade Day!
Well so far we have:

Ottawa gets Martin Lapointe from Chicago

Canadiens trade Huet to Washington

Buffalo trades Campbell to San Jose for Steve Bernier

Dallas gets F - BRAD RICHARDS G - JOHAN HOLMQVIST and Tampa gets: G - MIKE SMITH F - JUSSI JOKINEN F - JEFF HALPERN

Toronto trades Belak to Florida for a draft pick

St. Louis gets Cam Janssen and gives New Jersey Bryce Salvadore
Lots of rumours out there!

Two good tidbits, its confirmed that Kubina WILL waive his NTC and rumored that McCabe will also..........

Take it for what its worth, but I just read that a second Toronto deal is immenent
I understand Price is the guy in La Belle Province...but I think the Habs could have gotten a little better payback than a second-round pick.
Hopefully this means they are clearing up some cap space for next season for a player like Hossa.
Rumours out and about with Hossa & the Habs.

From Sportsnet.ca:

Quote:Montreal is believed to be pushing hard to land the high-scoring Hossa. One rumour has Grabovski, centre Maxim Lapierre and winger Michael Ryder going to the Thrashers for the Slovak right winger.

Grabovski is one hell of a prospect. Lets hope, if this happens, that the Habs can re-sign Hossa at seasons end.

Id make that deal, I just hope he stays. Im still a little puzzled about the Huet deal, I assumed they would use him and then let him walk or maybe re-sign him in the summer. I guess they think Price is ready to take the no.1 spot..Im not so sure. Maybe Gainey has something else up his sleeve today with a veteran type goalie.
I hope no one minds but I made a thread for all of todays trades..

Please god be true, on both fronts...If someone is willing to offer anything for either of them just take it Cliff!

I have mixed feelings on the Sundin situation. While he has certainly earned the right to choose his destiny, if he really loves Toronto as much as he says he does why wouldn't he want to leave for a few months, help the team get better by acquiring a high pick or prospect(s), and then come back in the summer?

I'm thinking either Gainey has something up his sleeve or he didn't expect to resign Huet.

Huet doesn't live up to his hype and Montreal has good depth in goal. If Gainey didn't expect to resign Huet at an acceptable price, it would make sense to trade him.

The price is low but apparently there's no real demand for goaltenders.
Last minute, Marian Hossa to Pittsburgh for Angelo Esposito, Erik Christensen, Colby Armstrong and a 1st round pick..

Pittsburgh definitely offered the best package, they better hope Hossa re-signs, they gave up a lot of their current roster, plus the pick.
