I gotta agree with you on that cferneyh, bringing Roberts back would have been a disaster. I think Perreault will be a decent addition to the team, however the price does seem too steep. Especially considering they could've had him for nothing earlier in the season.

But remember - earlier in the season Wellwood and Peca were healthy, so there was no real need for Perreault.

As for giving up Bell, I don't think it's a big deal. Considering they've got McCabe, Kaberle, and Kubina under long term deals, Gill is there, and Carlo has been playing well, as has White.....well, that makes Bell the 7th d-man at best........and the guys ahead of him on the depth chart obviously aren't going anywhere any time soon.

I agree. Are the Leafs striving to get older or something? Is Bell that bad? I mean, he's still young and I thought he was going to be a part of Toronto's future. If Perreault worth it? I like Perreault and all but is he going to put Toronto over the hump for a Cup? The move doesn't make sense. If the Leafs were contenders, it might be logical but even the Leafs have to know they have no chance at winning a Cup this season. They will be hard pressed to make the playoffs.

I think JFJ made the move to try and help the Leafs get in to the playoffs this year and not to help them for the future. If the Leafs miss the playoffs this year I think JFJ will be out of a job soon. I don't think anyone, including JFJ, expects the Leafs to win the cup this year. It's a wierd dilemma he faces, because he's stuck with trying to have a good team this year to save his job, but at the same time try not sacrifice too much for the future.

The Leafs just got Perreault because Eddie Olczyk, Gary Leeman, Peter Zezel, Dave Ellett, Wendel Clark, and Alan Bester were all unavailable.

holy crap this game between the blues and 'nucks is a drag...and good for you bettman..the NHL is in great shape..there must be almost six thousand people in attendance..nothing to worry about...

What the F&^K is wrong with the Canucks? They play a Blues team who just traded away Tkachuk and Guerin and they lose like that? I think people are getting their hopes up a little too high on these Canucks, maybe even myself. I don't think they'll win the division because they flat out f*&king suck on offense.

Well I don't pay much attention to the Canucks, but getting beat by a Guerin-less and Tkachuk-less Blues team doesn't sound too good. Sens came back to beat the Canes in the third period. Canes were 23-1 when leading after the 2nd period, but Ottawa made that record 23-2. Something they never could've done last year...

That really hurts...coming from an Ottawa fan who is still probably crying that they didn't end up with Gary Roberts today. I love how Ottawa fans had practically deified Roberts in the media these last couple of weeks...regardless of this 40 year old's "character player" "leader" and "proven playoff performer" status, and then turn around and take a shot at the Leafs for being old.

Toronto has so much young talent right now they really don't know what to do with it all. They've practically had every player from the Marlies in their lineup this year and we're still right in the thick of the playoff picture. Anyone who tries to tell me the Leafs are underperforming this year will have a serious argument on their hands.

The only thing keeping us from being solidly playoff bound has been a goalie who has failed to steal a series of games this year and a goalie who has failed to make the "key save" when we needed it. Raycroft has to be better.

St. Louis fans - much like Vancouver fans - have proven that when the team is winning, they show up, and when the team is losing, they don't. I can't say that I'd be all that fired up to watch 21 minutes of Bryce Salvador.

You've got a short memory opiated - I went to plenty of 'nuck games during the Keenan era where there couldn't have been more than 8,000 people there.

being an oilers fan was not easy today. first we lose smyth, then we get to watch messier's jersey go up, to remind us how great we used to be. this season can't end fast enough...

I may reside in Ottawa, but I grew up near Toronto, and I'm a long-time leafs fan. That being said, I'm getting very frustrated. Every trade deadline, regardless of who happens to hold the GM position, we take a chance on an older player, hoping he has one season left, and give up picks and prospects for him. And, it never works.

You were right on one thing though. The Kanata Poofters fan club sure thought Gary Roberts was the sure way to bring the Stanley Cup to the Pink Poofter Palace.

I feel for Edmonton Oiler fans today, I really do. Losing Smyth has to hurt, the guy gave everything for team, he's the kind of player I wish the Habs had every year.

I wonder where he'll be next year?

As for the Habs Im not surprised they didnt do much, they really dont have alot of cap room and real tradable assets, not in a good position to trade right now. Only problem is the pile of UFA's at season's end, Gainey better get talking to Markov soon. I dont see them keeping Souray unless he really wants to stay, I think he'll price himself out of Montreal and go to L.A.
