Whew...Flames win again, 3-2 over the Hawks in Chicago. Afternoon games are always sloppy affairs, and today was no exception. But we got the two points and that's what counts. We're 7 points up on Colorado now, and all the pressure's on them. If Vancouver can win in regulation tonight, you can just about stick a fork in the Avs. It pains me to say this, but GO CANUCKS!
I watched most of the 1st period and part of the 2nd period today of the Pens/Bruins game. The thing that stood out to me is that Colby Armstrong is a punk. He's just another Matt Cooke. Players like Armstrong make it difficult for me to watch hockey games. Well, a few other things stood out also. I noticed that the Bruins have horrible goaltending, horrible defense, and players that look like they are just going through the motions. I noticed that Malkin has a heck of a shot and has very good strength, Gary Roberts actually was playing really well, and that the Pens don't have much defense. The game was so wide open it was ridiculous.
I just finished watching the Rangers/Isles game (my niece & nephew's birthday parties were today so i had to record the second half of the game)...sucks the Islanders had to come back and earn a point, but the important thing is the Rangers got 2. Henrik Lundqvist was brilliant yet again, turning away 34 of 35 shots. He's in a zone right now, and playing as well as i've seen any goalie play in a long time.
Lundqvist has only allowed 11 goals in the last 11 games!
Booooo!!! Thanks for nothing, Canucks.

Geez, man, the Flames are in. Unless the Flames lose every remaining game, they are good as in the playoffs.
I guess Luongo is allowed to have a bad game here and there.
Ryan, Lundqvist sure is on a roll.

The Avs/Flames still have 2 head to head matchups left, so if the Avalanche can win them both in regulation, well they still might have a shot. It's a huge task for the Avalanche though and i just don't seem them having enough time to catch the Flames.
Anyone here go on their team's message boards? I just hopped over to the board on the Canuck's official site. I could only look for about two minutes. Most of the fans defend the players like they are part of their family. Seriously, on the radio Naslund was being criticized (rightfully so) and the responses from the fans on the board were comical. They ranged from "maybe those guys should be real fans and support their team" to "Nazzy has enough to deal with other than being ridiculed left and right" to "Nazzy is playing a more defensive role and sacrificing his points to help the team" to "they're just bandwagon fans". Ah yes, the wonderful use of 'bandwagoner'. Fans like to use that word quite a bit. :rambo: I guess it's against the rules to tell the truth about a hockey team and its players.

hock:

hock: Naslund ISN'T a leader, Naslund isn't producing like he should, and Naslund is stealing a paycheck this season. Those are the realities of the situation. I'm glad I have a brain that allows me to see things for what they are. :thumb:

But how is that different to reaction around here if someone posts something about not liking World Container or not being impressed with the most recent Hip concert they went to? People who post disenting opinions at a fan forum of any type are likely to get jumped all over. It's the nature of the beast.

I'd be lying if I were to say that I wasn't hoping HNIC would go to TSN.
I'm just tired of the CBC not trying anymore. Cole & Neale need to go, the graphics and segments they use are out of date, and we hear the same damn story week after week.
TSN would have shook it up...new announcers connected with today's game, more games (not just on Saturday), and yes (you all knew this was coming) not just Maple Leafs games.

HNIC is a CBC program, always has been and always will.
It's not some independent enterprise that can negotiate with other networks.

You're right. But, not necessarily the program (HNIC) itself, but the NHL could have signed with a different network instead of the CBC.
CTV now has the rights for the Olympics in 2010 & 2012 (a big loss for CBC). Also, there are a lot of talks of the CFL going 100% to CTV eventually.
This is a quote from wikipedia
Quote:In a news item posted on August 11, 2006, on the CBC's website, it was reported that CTVglobemedia, the owner of CTV and TSN, was looking to acquire the broadcast rights to NHL hockey in Canada for a 10-year, $1.4 billion CDN package deal, starting with the 2008-09 season, including exclusive English and French television rights, in addition to the cable television rights for TSN, and Internet streaming rights. [1] Although not confirmed by CBC itself, the CBC's president recently admitted it is "distinctly possible" that it will soon be out of the hockey business after a 70-year association on TV and radio.

HNIC on CBC is a tradition, and I'm glad it's staying right where it is. The CTV-TSN bid may have been rumoured, but it was never going to happen. If the NHL signed exclusively with CTV-TSN, it would have essentially put CBC Sports out of business, and that would not be in the NHL's long term best interest. It also wouldn't be in viewers best interests. You think CTV would clear out their schedule from mid-April to mid-June to make way for hockey every night? Not a chance. It would've been one game a week on CTV, and the rest on TSN. The way things are now, with extensive coverage from both CBC and TSN, is much better (and it should get even better, with TSN securing more games featuring Canadian teams, both during the season and in the playoffs, in its soon to be announced new deal). The other good feature of the CBC deal is the internet rights, which is going to allow it to do live webcasts of every game it covers. And for you Leaf-haters out there, CBC is cutting back its annual Leafs telecasts to 23 games, from the current 28.
And tth_fan - re: the CFL, those aren't just talks. This coming season is CBC's last, after that TSN owns the exclusive rights to all games.

This is good news...and you know what Grimes, I never really thought about the CTV option, but I would have to agree that the way CBC and TSN combine for playoff coverage probably does provide us with the most viewing opportunities. I have to ask about Bettman's comment regarding High Def...I thought that the majority of the late broadcasts since last November-ish have been in High Def...perhaps my eyes were deceiving me??? And as for the reduced Leaf content, I'll believe it when I see it. Where did you see the "23, instead of 28" information???
