Hard to believe that Leafs team tonight is the same team that lost 5-1 to the Capitals less than two weeks ago, or had that 10 minute meltdown against the Sabres on Friday. 14 goals scored in their last three games, and dominating play in 8 of their last 9 periods. All the more remarkable is that they've done it without much contribution from their captain (and supposed best player) - of those 14 goals Sundin has just 1 point, an assist.
Habs win 6-4!!
Even better, the Islanders and the Lightning lost. Some tough games coming up, it wont be easy, but if we keep playing with this determination we have a good chance to sneak in.
GO HABS GO!!

At least the Rangers mounted a little bit of a comeback in the 3rd. I was frustrated with the game & stopped watching, and then about 10 minutes later i came online and checked the ESPN scoreboard & saw it was 5-4. The Rangers were the better team in the 1st period, and played decent from what i seen of the 3rd period. Montreal were the much more desperate team though in the 2nd & they were flying. Couple that with some bad defensive work by the Rangers and it resulted in 5 unanswered goals.
Montreal is playing very well right now. A week or so ago i thought they were all but finished. One more Habs/Rangers game to go next week...
Score a goal in regulation for crying out loud, Calgary! ARRRGH!!!!

Well, nobody can say the playoff race is a yawn this year.
Thank you Mike Keenan for letting go of Roberto Luongo. :thumb:

NO shit..but the team as a whole is so much better than last year..from outside, as Jim Hughson put it, it's easy to say that it's all Lunongo..but the Nucks are playing as a TEAM....our six man d-group is playing some amazing hockey...and if Naslund ever decides to play some hockey, look out...i predict the 'nucks go to the third round this year
What a great night! Flames defeat Minny in the shootout, and Vancouver does us a favor and knocks off Colorado 3-0. Finally some breathing room!

Well, Mitchell has been very good and the Sedins have improved. Getting rid of Bertuzzi and his baggage was a great move. It isn't all Luongo at all but he is a big part of it. He gives the team an identity. It's not just Luongo's play but it's the confidence the team has when he's in net. They know that he's not gonna let in a goal from the red line when the dagger was just about to be put in a team in the playoffs (yeah, I'm looking at you Cloutier haha).

Having a better "team" is a byproduct of recognizing what their strength is (Luongo), developing a system around their strength, and getting players to buy into it. In other words, if Cloutier was still the goalie and the 'nucks played the defensive system that they do now, they'd be looking at a lot of 3-1 losses this season.
I've spoken against Vigneault as coach of the year, but tiger is right - he's done a great job of getting a former run-and-gun team buy into a completely different system, and while it can be pretty damn boring at times, I'll take a boring win over an exciting loss any day of the week.
I'd like to cheer for them in the playoffs, but since every 'nuck fan I know still goes on about the '94 Conference Finals like it happened last week, I think it would be water torture having to listen to them for the rest of my life if they actually won a Cup.
