Definitely clean.
Unfortunate, but clean.
And Mr. Jones showed some remorse and class, unlike the others who have been involved in incidents compared to this.

Sometimes in a contact sport like hockey, accidents like this happen. Look at the Buffalo Bills player, Kevin Everett who had to be carried off the field back in week 1. No football analysts said it was time to look at the game of football and change up the rules...it's part of the game, and it's bad luck.
Jones was just doing what he was always taught to do...finish his checks. Bergeron turned, and took an awkward hit. It was bad luck, and very unfourtunate, and sometimes it happens in hockey. There's no way it should be compared to what Downie did in the preseason.

I dont see how its "definitely clean".. it wasn't intentional yes, but he could have eased up on him in that situation and he didnt and he knows it. Just look at his apology.. ''Words really can't express the way that I feel right now. I am very apologetic for the hit and what I did,'' Jones said in a statement released by the team. ''It was not intentional. It is something that I have never done before and it is not part of my character. I am extremely sorry.

''I hope he does OK and everything works out for him. I wish him nothing but the best in his recovery.''

Bergeron made a mistake in turning his back, but I still think the other player has to react to that and he didnt, he made the decision to drive his forearm into the back of his head and drive him into the boards, look at the replay Jones saw his back turned he had time but he still went at him hard..

There's no doubt in my mind that the Philly management had a say in that statement, and had a hand in having it released so quickly. Think about it, it's their third incident in the first couple months of the season. I would release that statement ASAP too, cause the Flyers look like their former selves of the 1970's right now. Although you can't compare Jones' hit to the other two incidents.
If you watch the replay in realtime (about three mins into that clip), you can clearly see that in realtime its hard to tell.
I still think that it was unfortunate, and I still think it was clean. Bergeron becomes vulnerable fractions of a second before the check, and as the commentators said during that "they were already engaged before going into the boards". I feel for Bergeron, I really do... I've been injured on a clean hit before. A lot of people came up to me afterwards saying how they thought it was dirty... when in actuality, I felt the only thing dirty is how I wasn't in an apt position to take the hit.
I hope Patrice is OK... but every game they're are hits that have potential to have the same result...we just don't discuss because the person takes the hit idealy, and then skates on their merry way.
I hope Randy Jones doesn't get suspended for the incident.
Just my opinion though.
I agree that it wasnt dirty, but its not totally clean either. I think he only deserves a very minimal suspension if at all..

Let me remind you... I have a biased opinion of Randy Jones.
From wikipedia...
Quote:Randy Jones (born July 23, 1981 in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Canada) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is a defenseman with the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers.
Just because it's not intentional doesn't mean it's clean. The check was clearly from behind - and it was hard into the boards. I refereed for eight years and I shuddered any time I saw something like this. The onus must be on the checking player to make sure that the hit is clean. If we're debating what penalty should be called, I don't think it deserves a match penalty, but it certainly deserves a major and a game misconduct.

It was a little dirty and he could have held up. However, if these jackass players would stop turning their backs when heading into corners, these hits could be avoided more often. Players are trying to draw penalties all the time. It's really sad to watch. Oh well, the players bring this all upon themselves so, that's the way it goes.

Part of it may be coaching too... that players are taught to turn their backs as a way to protect the puck. And that's really sad, because surely there are ways to protect the puck along the boards without leaving yourself exposed to serious injury. Coaches at different levels need to help take ownership of this problem and find ways to teach their players to protect the puck while keeping their safety foremost in their minds.

I agree with those who have posted so far, the hit was unfortunate, Jones is not a dirty player, but some suspension is justified. Two games is OK if slightly light, I could have seen 5 games being about right. It certainly is unfair to show this hit in the same light as what those idiots Downie and Boulerice did. Good luck to Bergeron as he recovers, I'm glad that, long-term, he will be just fine.

Really, I can't find any reason to fault anybody other then Bergeron. Perhaps that lies a tad on the sadistic side, but why would he shimmer up his skate brakes in that situation? He surely knew that contact, (or the prospect of contact) is, or was imminent, and he put himself in a vulnerable position by doing what he did. That exact sequence plays out a half dozen times in any given hockey game, and there is never any controversy. If Bergeron had taken the boards like many a player would have in that position, and succumbed to the taste of rink-glass, he would be fine, and this discussion wouldn't be relevant. It's always uncomfortable to watch, and perhaps I'm in the minority here, but I think that Mr. Jones shouldn't have received any suspension. How often would we be talking about suspensions if player's short-stopped the boards, and left themselves in these types of vulnerable positions? I understand the hit was from behind; regardless, I'd say that Bergeron put himself in that awkward position, and not the other way around.
leafs @ habs tonight!

should be a good one, well unless the leafs get shelled again, which will probably happen
i'd just like to say, that yes the Canucks look like shit this year, but for the fans to boo Luongo??? are you fucking kidding me??? embarassing
