I don't like your take... you can eat it, too... The only reason the '7 point' game is of any relevance is that following that game, the rest of the league took notice that Alfredsson should probably be involved in any discussion of league MVP; it put him at the top of the league leaders (apparently being sixth doesn't garnish such attention). I'm pretty sure everyone in Ottawa has faithfully assumed he has had a reasonble shot at MVP way before that 7-point performance. Either way, he leads such company in +/- (by a long shot, except Iginla), short handed goals (and points) by a significant margin, TOI... really, the guy has been possessed for the last 18 months, and has done a terrific job as the captain of the Senator's. When the going get's tough (down 1-0 against the Canadiens, or against the Red Wings, or even game 5 against the Ducks) he always shows up, and scores two goals. He's never had an off-night this season. I guess we'll have to see how the rest of the season pans out, but he gets my vote.

I'm not sure I follow. Are you insinuating that he doesn't provide the proverbial 110%? Here's a fun fact. The Senators have a 60% winning ratio since the beginning of the 2006-2007 season, and a 64% points-per-game ratio during the same span.
Without Alfredsson, since the beginning of the 2006 season the team is a paltry 1-8. You can argue that his lack of offensive contribution would provide a diminished offensive attack, but 1-8? He's the Captain, and the team seems lost without him.
And regarding this

It's the 'same', revisited. Don't get it. He hasn't had an off-night, and he never will when he suits up.
This plants Ovechkin ahead of Alfie, but Alfie still gets my vote.

Here's Alfie's bio from the Leaf-centric TSN

Seems like a 110% kind of guy, and a fearless Captain, and sustains injury from his efforts.
Just a quick question. Do you even watch the Senator's, and what Alfie brings to the team? I don't care if you'll keep hating Alfie... he'll get what he deserves...
Ovechkin has 18 goals in his last 15 games, 43 in 52 games overall, on pace for 68 goals on the season (though the way he's been lighting it up the last month he could very well hit the 70 platue).
I still doubt he'll ever do it, but 43 in 52 is the closest we've had in a long while...anyone think Ovechkin can one day join the 50 in 50 club?
i think so, he's still getting better it looks like.
Antropov got suspended 3 games for tossing his stick at an official, I'm fine with that, but c'mon is this hooking?

yes..that "hooking" call is why the leafs are the 3rd worse team in the league
seriously, bullshit call, but leaf fans have way more to worry about than that call.
As for us Nuck fans, holy fuck...when will the bleeding stop???? Our d- is banged up, but that doesn't even seem to be the problem.
That's no hooking call, but c'mon...refs are human too, and you can't throw a stick at them!

I think the fact that Maurice had so many complaints about the officiating following that game speaks volumes ... about why the Leafs are only four points out of last place.
Bad calls happen. Teams can't control that. Disciplined teams concentrate on what they can control: their own game.
And that is exactly why the new NHL is garbage. I hate this shit.
the "new nhl" is fine, the "new nhl"-leafs are what's garbage.
leafs are a disgrace ths year.
Leafs may be a disgrace, but the Marlies just beat the Senators! GO MARLIES GO!
Yesterday's Rangers/Habs game was one of the best i've seen all season. It was a very physical game, there were some huge hits (and a pair of questionable ones by Alex Kovalev & Ryan Hollweg), some fights, lots of goals, etc.
I thought the Rangers were down and out when the Habs scored on the penalty shot to go up 3-0, but the Rangers never gave up, scored the two quick ones to get right back in the game, and then on the back of some huge saves by Henrik Lundqvist, won the game 5-3.
Brandon Dubinsky continued his impressive play, IMO he's the most effective rookie forward the Rangers have had since, well i can't remember it's been that long. Dubinsky has all the tools to be a dominant player in this league.
Montreal missed a big chance to get real close to Ottawa. They would have been 1 point behind with 2 games against them this week. Rangers wanted it more. The Habs must have been waiting for the Superbowl rager to start.
lol, it almost seemed that after Kostitsyn got hammered, they stopped playing as agressive as they had been, and went all boots and hearts if you know what i mean.
