i don`t know if there are 2 bigger goofs in the league than avery & brashear. brashear tries to fight matt cooke of all people and then cowers like a little girl when godard offers up his services. then avery drops the gloves while coming from behind that goon fedotenko and starts throwing punches. some teams deserve to get pummeled 2 games in a row, and yes, the rangers are one of them
I was so fed up with the Ranger that i had to shut it off, so i switched over to the Dallas/Tampa game to watch Brad Richards take on his old teammates...so i missed it, but i noticed Avery's 17 PIMs in the boxscore. And i have to agree, i can't stand Brashear, and although he can be a valuable player, Avery is a dick, or as tiger would call him, a punk

I was glad to see Tortorella finally bench a few of the "star" players last game. Both Wade Redden ($6.5 million) and Ales Kotalik ($4 million) were healthy scratches, and Chris Drury ($7 million range) was demoted to the 4th line (he had only played 10 minutes the previous game as well).
I hate to say it because i've always liked the guy, but i think it's time for Slats to move on.

Wade "powder nose" Redden's career went way down hill when he started hanging, and snorting, with Ray Emery and McGratten back in the Ottawa days.
Who gets under Torts' skin more than Larry Brooks? The next day, the write up for that game, Brooks TORE him apart. They won the game and split the H&H.
I always said Halak was an underrated goaltender.

Too bad Gainey has his head shoved so far up Carey Price's ass that Halak will never get his due in Montreal. He may be playing now, but wait til he plays bad in one game and it will be right back to Price again which only sends the message that Gainey will always go back to Price. And unless Halak can go undefeated for the rest of the season, he'll never legitimately be the number one goalie in Montreal, despite being NHL player of the week a few weeks ago and being the player of the month for the Habs in December, and single-handedly getting them into the playoffs last year. God forbid, Gainey admit he made a mistake and actually try to rectify it by letting go of Price. I'm not saying that Price is a bad goalie, but I think Halak is a better and should be shown a little respect by the organization. Let's not forget Gainey offered the Flyers Halak for a second round pick last month. I'd hate to see where the Habs would be sitting in the standings today if that deal went through.
Did anyone watch this Canucks game where referee Auger supposedly took revenge on Burrows? I can't find video of the supposed infractions.
I've seen some really spotty officiating in the NHL of late, spotty enough that I could actually believe this.
They were both pretty terrible calls. That being said, Burrows is a bit of douchebag so I don't know who to believe.

I like, but where's the other half of his kit?
His solo at the concert was awesome, spun around and played every single thing he had there.
Laraque has been bought-out by the Canadiens. He blames Jacques Martin for not liking tough players.
Maybe this will open the door for him to return to Edmonton.
Quote:Georges Laraque will not play another game with the Montreal Canadiens.
General manager Bob Gainey contacted him Thursday morning and told him that head coach Jacques Martin didn't had any confidence in him anymore and the team believes they can win without the enforcer in the lineup. The club will pay his salary for the rest of the season and will buy out the rest of his contract at the end of the 2009-10 campaign.
Laraque, who told TSN he was on his way to practice in the morning when he received the call to meet with Gainey, insists he's been a good team player and said there were no issues with the team or Martin, whom he believed was behind the decision.
"Jacques Martin doesn't like me and doesn't believe in toughness," Laraque told TSN.
Laraque added that Martin never shared any concerns directly with him and is furious with the Canadiens' approach based on the emotional issues he's dealing with following the devastating earthquake in Haiti and the impact this disaster has had on both him and his family.
"To do this in the midst of all I'm dealing with in Haiti, the timing is awful," Laraque said angrily.
Laraque followed up the initial conversation after cooling down in an effort to put his frustration into context.
"I was very emotional and I'm very hurt by this decision. I'm a proud guy and I may have let my emotions get the better of me," Laraque told TSN.
"Needless to say, I'm very disappointed."
Laraque, a Montreal native, signed a three-year, $4.5 million contract in July of 2008 and has one year remaining on his deal.
A lingering back injury limited him to just 61 games with the Canadiens over the last two seasons, as he tallied just five points and 89 penalty minutes. Laraque scored his first and only goal with the Canadiens last week in a game against the Dallas Stars.
I'm thinking this was done (partially) in order to pick up Sykora who was just let go on waivers (with AK still injured, they need another winger, they can't keep rolling with 8 D-men).
We need to get rid of Gomez, trade him for a rental player just to free up some cap space to sign someone who is actually useful.
