Yep sure was, Redden should definitely help the blueline. It's a pretty steep price, but when you compare it to the kind of money that's been thrown around to the likes of Mark Streit & Mike Commodore, it's ok i guess.
I heard about the Redden signing tonight on the way home from the fireworks, so just assumed that meant the end for Michael Rozsival in NY, so i was kind of shocked to read that he was also re-signed.

Too bad for the Rangers that this didn't take place about five years ago- the last time that Redden was actually a decent player.

So the Leafs signed a 28 year old who has played less than 100 career games to a 4-year deal worth $3.75 million per season. Jeff Finger is so good in fact, that he was a healthy scratch for half of Colorado's playoff games this past season. :nooooo

Hossa is a Red Wing, and Avery is a Star.

And Malkin will still be a Penguin for 6 more years (a five year extension)

Well yesterday proved that NHL owners are still stupid f***ing morons. If Sundin is worth 10mill a year, then Crosby, Ovechkin, Iginla, Lecalvier and Zetterberg are all worth at least 15mill a year, and contracts like that were the reason the owners all cried and bitched about profits which led to the lockout last time.

Its obvious the cap is a complete joke because its gone up every year since the lockout, but I'd like to see a team throw all their money at one player and then not be able to afford anyone else like the Timberwolves did with Garnett.

Also, I wasn't a big fan of Gainey dealing Huet last year mainly because they only received a second round pick for him. Some people said they might as well get something for him and that a second round pick proved he wasn't in that high of demand. Yesterdays signing proves the Habs could have gotten way more for him than they did. He's now making more than Martin Brodeur is which is completely absurd. Look at what the Bruins got in return for ANDREW RAYCROFT for christ sakes.

I don't think Huet's deal shows Gainey was wrong to deal him. If he could have got more at the time, he would have. What that deal shows is that the UFA market is a seller's market right now, and that a lot of NHL GMs and owners are willing to overpay. It's easier to pay cash than to give up something in trade, and consequently a player can get a better deal on his own than his team can in trading him.

10 million a year for Sundin is just silly but I'm wondering what the source of that rumour is. Sundin's agent, looking to up the offers of other bidders, perhaps?

10 mil for a proven leader and producer like Sundin seems fair to me considering the market right now, and how much lesser players are signing for.

The whole thing is a joke, really. A year was lost for what? Absolutely nothing. There are bums signing deals for 4 mill/year now. What a mockery. :rambo:

Fair? If Sundin is worth 10 mill/year, then Malkin should have held out for at least 14/year. Sundin is a 37 year old who scores 30 goals a season. How that translates into 10 mill/year, I'll never know. Rick Vaive showed what a tool he is on OTR today. He was asked if Hagman was worth the deal he signed with Toronto. Vaive said that he was worth it if he scored 35 goals or more. So, Hagman signs for 3 mill a year and Vaive thinks he needs to score 35 goals to justify the money he's being paid? If that's the case, shouldn't Sundin be expected to score about 75 goals to justify a 10 mill/year contract? 3 mill/year these days gets you a 30 point guy in some cases, for crying out loud. :nooooo :nooooo :nooooo

I see the Rangers got Fritsche and Zherdev from the Jackets for Tyutin and Backman. If Zherdev's head is on straight, this is a great deal for the Rangers.

I hope the Oilers pick somebody else up before the season starts. It's a shame we lost Glencross, especially to those damn Flames. While I think we'll have a good shot at the playoffs this year regardless of any further roster changes, it'd be nice if the team was beefed up a little. Here's hoping they keep playing like they did at the end of last season, instead of going back to how they were at the beginning!

What is your honest take on this Grabovski kid the Leafs just traded for?? I haven't seen him play at all. Sounds like he has potential, but I am not going to get my hopes up.............................perhaps a bust similar to what Suglabov was a year or so ago??

Grabowski could develop into a pretty good player. He has good speed and skills but isn't strong on the puck. He also has shown some attitude problems, which I think is why Montreal would be willing to trade him.

He's a good trade for a 2nd round pick, given that 2nd round picks are a bit of a crap shoot.
