Well, if they finish 8th (a real possibility), they would get to be demolished by Buffalo
Quote:thats always the excuse eh  after the Sabres bowed out of the playoffs last year thats all the Sabres fans on here kept whining about, wah wah wah we have a bunch of injuries, its part of hockey.

I wasn't making an excuse. All I was saying was that Ottawa got beat by a bunch of AHLers.

I actually perfer these guys (the Sabres future) playing at this time of the year. Since the Sabres are in 1st place, the regualrs might get a little comfortable and lose urgency, like in January. These young guys are hungary as lions, although you do sacrifice some talent, it is made up in passion and desire to make the
NHL.

They have a shot, but with Huet out, it's going to be tough during the March crunch time with so much parity between 5-10.

I don't think Emery would have wanted anybody to come to his defense...he wanted to show that he can hold his own. He's a pretty tough goalie :rambo:

well Emery came about as close as Peters did at connecting with a punch, I didn't see Peters land any punches either, unless you call hitting someone in their shoulder pad landing a punch.

Also, what does having a lisp have to do with absolutely anything?? Who can take you seriously when you're an ignorant asshole?

Are you being serious or sarcastic?

If sarcastic, that is pretty good!

I'm being totally serious. Retaliation for a "percieved" dirty hit, with a cheap shot. Spezza wanted no part of any of that and he kept being punched from behind when he was trying to get away from it. It was not even close to being as serious as the Bertuzzi situation but it was pretty cheap and uneccessary because the original hit wasn't dirty at all.

Settle down there big sensitive.
It sounds as the opinions are going both ways...some saying the hit was late/dirty, others not. In any case, any time a guy ends up with 32 stitches in his face, it is hard to believe it was FULLY clean. Drury wanted to come back but Lindy told him to relax. Good thing, I think he was diagnosed with a slight concussion.

Mair did apologize to the Sens room after the game (directed towards Spezza), but then almost got into it with the assistant coach. Don't think this whole thing is over. I imagine that Briere, Vanek, and other more skilled players will be targeted Saturday night. I imagine they can hold their own, and at least know their teammates have their backs.

At least we will have this kid in the lineup:

Buffalo is sending a strong message before the playoffs. This really doesn't have much to do with Lindy Ruff...the players would have responded whether he put them out the next shift or five shifts later. Would be great if they can obtain another gritty player at the deadline (not much $$ to do so though). Critics say this is the one thing that might be the missing link.

All in all, this is good for the NHL. Regardless of the whiny, pansy Sabres or the coward Senators, the NHL made CNN (has to be a first in a long time) and was the hot topic of national sports radio. Normally when I watch SportsCenter on ESPN here in the states I only see NBA, NCAA BB, NFL and MLB highlights with about 2% of the show related to the NHL. Not this morning. Jim Rome talked about it for about an hour and a half and had Ray Ferraro as a guest. E-mails and calls were coming from all over the country and Canada. Regardless of anyones opinion of the incidents, it was exciting to watch and I imagine many more than normal will be tuning in Saturday night to CBC?

Sucks that the Sabres are facing all of these injuries, but they will still keep on finding a way to win because they are that good, even with a roster full of AHL prospects. Speed kills, and now they have been playing with more toughness too!

I can see why Sens fans are pissed and I can see why Buffalo fans are supportive of the actions that took place after "the hit." Isn't it great to be an NHL fan!

Yes, he's tough... But, you're missing my point.
From the dawn of hockey, the goalie (especially your no. 1 goalie) is usually supposed to be protected at all costs.. no matter how tough he is.
Goalies squaring off against each other is one thing, but when a known enforcer steps in after the goalies' fight is over you'd think someone would have done something. Billy Smith, Ron Hextall et. al would never have had to fight twice in a row like that. Would have been interesting if Emery broke his hand or got knocked out.

I agree...regardless of what team bias you're holding, the excitement and entertainment value of that game (and hockey in general) is what being a fan is all about.
second_sight_kyle Wrote:If you want a real litmus test, who has more points in the season series? 'Nuff said. And I think calling Heatley a murderer is a little uncalled for.

If ever there was an indication of a bush-league hockey fan, it's when someone posts this idiotic argument.

the regular season means NOTHING. Last year Ottawa OWNED buffalo in the regular season, and lasted all of 5 games against them in the playoffs. So Ottawa has a SLIGHT edge in the season series, and they're automatically better than buffalo? Get a clue.
Too bad the national media doesn't mention:

Sabres down 0-2, score 1 late in the 1st. 2 quick goals early in the 2nd. to take the lead. Sabres kill a 4 min. 5-3. Sens tie it up on the power play. Sabres go ahead 2 goals. Sens regain the tie in the 3rd. Fast-paced 4-4 overtime, Sabres short-handed without Briere. 3 rounds of scoreless shootout. Stafford scores in the 4th frame. Miller with an amazing left glove save to win the game.

20 year old Buffalo native gets an assist in his 1st NHL game playing for the team he grew up cheering for.

In this case, it was minutes after Drury was taken off the ice with blood spurting from his head. Truthfully, Heatley didn't help matters by cross checking Kaleta before the face-off. The refs should have stopped it there reset the face off to diffuse tempers.

I think emotions were running high. Buffalo players thought it was dirty and I don't really fault them for that. It didn't look good anyways, clean or not. As a former player, if I see a teammate get flattened out like that, and injured, regardless of who it is, I am going to step it up and make a statement.

If Heatley or Alfredsson got smoked and bloodied, I would expect the Sens to initiate SOMETHING, what NHL team would sit back and do nothing?? Maybe Ottawa, but that is about the only team I can think of. Did Ottawa lose a player to injury as a result of all of this? The only thing the Sens lost was some respect, for not defending their tender, and more importantly a point in the standings! This whole thing may actually be potentially worse for their team chemistry than anything. I wonder if there are players second guessing their own teammates after this. THEY LET THEIR STARTING GOALIE GET LUMPED BY PETERS!!!! How does that happen?

If that were Miller getting fed by Neil, I know a Buffalo player would have jumped in....any one of them, even a non-fighter.

It's over now, on to Saturday night, should be a good one!
