That makes 3 straight games where they've collapsed in the 3rd period. These guys better figure out how to win games....and soon. I can only hope that their upcoming homestand will give them some sort of jump. Those back-to-back games against the 'Nucks aren't gonna be easy.
F**k am I ever frustrated. On the bright side, at least we didn't get spanked 8-0.
This may sound ridiculous, but sometimes I think I'd rather have my team get whipped than to lose the type of game the Flame-outs have been losing. I can forget an 8-0 spanking ever happened (as long as it doesn't happen all the time, 'cause then I'd start throwing things). But games where your favourite team has the lead late then blows it, those are the games that haunt you and eat at your insides.
A loss is a loss, but yeah, if my favourite team was struggling to put wins on the board and choked up a 2 goal lead with five minutes to play, I'd kind of wonder about the character of my team. Those are games you have to close out, particularly when you are playing against the other team's third string goalie. I'm not worried about the Leafs pitching a stinker every now and again, but I think the Flames are becoming dangerously close to being known as the Calgary Hurricanes.
Ouch, that hurts. But I think you're right. The most frustrating thing about last night's game is that the Flames played great hockey for about 55 minutes and basically outplayed the Sharks in all areas of the game...but then came those horrendous final minutes where everything just fell apart. Bottom line is that the guys who are supposed to be giving Iggy some support in the scoring department (Amonte, Langkow, Donovan, Nilson) are not doing their jobs. If we could actually score more than 3 goals/game, we'd be winning a lot more than we are. The last few games have all been very close and despite the final scores, the Flames actually haven't played that badly (late game gaffes aside of course). But you can't win in the new NHL without scoring some goals, and with the exception of Iginla we're just not putting the puck in the net. And that worries me.
But I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's a long season and it's way too early to give up on this team. I still have faith in Darryl Sutter and I like the team that he's put together here. If anybody can give these guys the kick in the ass they need, it's him. And if they do manage to get their shit together, they'll be very tough to beat. 10 of their next 12 games are at home, so this'll be a good opportunity to fine-tune their game and get back to playing the kind of hockey that they're capable of.

Maybe I'm missing something here cferneyh, but last time I checked the standings, the Hurricanes (Carolina version) were leading the Eastern Conference...

Im guessing he meant it in the way that Carolina went to the Cup final in 02 and then sucked ass the next year.

Gotcha...kind of J-S Giguere/Mikka Kiprusoff on a team-wide level...
Apologies to all for the brainfart...pre-coffee Monday morning, plus I've made a conscious effort to block out all things NHL since Saturday night's massacre...at least until tonight...
OK, well that's better. The Leafs didn't blow Florida out, but they came up with a much better effort and got the win. Not a work of art, kind of a chippy game, but we'll take it.
GO LEAFS!!
any poolies take prospal this week? damn he's on fire!!!
and fedorov just got traded to the bluejackets !

hock:
I cant belive my Habs blew a three goal lead against Florida, good thing we got the win or I would of blew my top. :x
Are they still doing the all-star game in Ottawa this year? And is it still East vs. West? Anybody..

Don't look now, but my Flames have won 8 in a row, (4 of them against the so-called top teams in the West). I'll admit I was a little worried during those first few games of the season, but over the last three weeks they've completely elevated their game. I said early on that once this team got their shit together they'd be extremely tough to play against, and it looks like I was right. All the ingredients have finally come together: great goaltending, balanced scoring, relentless forechecking, consistent PP, strong PK, speed, toughness, and a commitment to team defence.
The way these guys are playing right now, I don't even think the Sens could beat them. Yeah, that's right. I said it. GO FLAMES!!!

I have to admit that I was starting to think they were a flash in the pan, but wow, have they ever looked great during this streak. What's impressed me the most is the way one part of the team's game covers for another if that part is having an off night. If Kipper isn't on his game, the offense steps up, and vice versa. Must be nice to be a Flames fan right now. :thumb:
And another win for the Leafs tonight. Gee, 11-7-2 isn't a bad start for a team with so many new faces. And they are 5-2 since Captain Clutch came back. Yet earlier this week Steve Simmons called them "marginal". Uh, OK. Hey Steve, "marginal" is what your wife thinks of your performance in the sack, slugger.

First off, yeah, hats off to the Flames, they look great right now. While Kipper is back to playing very well, I still think that as Iginla goes, so go the Flames. And Iginla is playing tremendous hockey right now. I'm happy to see that, he's one of my favourite players in the NHL right now, because he can do it all... skate, score, defend, hit, fight, he's the ultimate power forward right now.
And yes, cfern, I as well am very pleased to see the Leafs win again, that's 3 in a row now! They have definitely exceeded my expectations going into the season so far, and hopefully they keep it up. And I agree with your point about the Toronto media... what's wrong with these guys?! Man the Leafs are a good team, they're winning and are starting to gel, and once Mats is fully into game shape then look out because he'll really dominate! All these Toronto writers should save their vitriol for the Raptors, because THEY suck!!
Anyway, GO LEAFS GO!!! :thumb:

Gonna make it 9 tonight!! Might have a line on a ticket with some friends too. :thumb:
GO FLAMES GO!!!
Where are all you biotches now? The buds are on a 3-game streak soon to be four with the Thrashers coming up. Still giving up too many shots but they have always done that with Quinn. Get on the wagon everybody!!!
