What do you mean? I thought he won it in 2002-03
emperor penguin Wrote:Maybe saying Forsberg is heartless is a little harsh, but I dont think he should have been captain in Philly, there were reports earlier this year that he appeared to not be trying very hard. I concede that he's a tremendous player but I don't think that makes him worthy of being a captain.

As for Shanahan being twice the leader Jagr is, I dont think its hard for anyone to be a better leader than Jagr. He's known as a selfish player and also is known for not trying at times. When Jagr was in Washington he was terrible, when Shanny was in Hartford he scored 125 points in one season. Although Shanahan was unhappy in Hartford, like Jagr was in Washington, at least Shanahan still tried. My original point was that the best players arent always the best leaders. In alot of cases they are (Joe Sakic, Nik Lidstrom etc..), but it shouldn't be a criteria for being a captain.

"Reports" that he appeared to be "not trying" very hard? Come on! He averaged a point a game on the worst team in the NHL despite playing through a number of injuries.

And saying Jagr was "terrible" with the Crapitals is a bit of a stretch, considering he had 201 points in 190 games on a team that wasn't very good.
i wish somebody could be that terrible for Montreal! hehe

oh wait, we have legitimate grievances concerning top players playing "terrible"

It's about time. Stupid bastard shouldn't have played another minute after running Roloson over last year.

Two assists in his Islanders' debut......
I can't quite figure these Leafs out. Raycroft is an average goalie (I'm sure someone...cfern...will whip out some stats to either back that opinion up or blow it to hell) and Sundin has really been the only consistent contributor on offence. Don't get me wrong - O'Neill is having a better year this year and he is clicking with Stajan and Steen. However, while I am still cautiously optimistic about making the playoffs, I certainly don't see a team (Kaberle, Stajan, Wellwood, Colaiacovo aside) that will compete in the near future. It will be very bad for the Buds if JFJ decides to grant Tucker a long term deal. And rumours have it that JFJ is shopping for either Guerin or Roberts before the deadline. I don't understand why this Quinn Mentality (depend on formerly premier players) is still lingering. It's baffling, to tell you the truth.
I'm a little disappointed in Burke.

"I do not favour the elimination of the penalty but I think we've got to get to five or six (instigator penalties) before a player gets suspended so they can do their jobs and protect their teammates."

I think the instigator should be abolished completely. There are too many guys like Matt Cooke and Kirk Maltby that are protected by it.

Calling Raycroft "average" is being kind, but only 6 goalies have more W's.

I can't stand the though of Roberts coming back. I really, really can't. He signed in FLA for a little more than the Leafs offered, then he ripped JFJ publicly.....and a little over 12 months later he used the Roberts-loving-Toronto-sports-media to publicly whine to JFJ to work out a trade because he wanted to come home.

Let him rot in Florida like all of the other retired-cabbages that move down there to escape Canadian winters.

On another topic, can I cast my imaginary vote for MVP for Luongo?
luongo should be MVP...without him the 'nucks would not be in a playoff situation
As much as I criticized Luongo during the first couple months of the season (justified IMO), I agree that he's been terrific since then. He's a legitimate MVP candidate. My three MVP candidates would include two goalies. I'd have Brodeur, Luongo, and Crosby as the leading candidates. I'm very happy to say that Luongo has lived up to the hype for me. He's made up for his shaky start. He gave up four goals last night to Colorado but with the score 5-4 in the third period, he made a fantastic glove save with about 11 minutes left in the game that neiter Auld nor Cloutier would have made in that situation. He's literally carrying the team on his back.
Those 3 guys definitely deserve a lot of consideration for the Hart, and I'd also throw Vincent Lecavalier's name in there - especially if the Lightning win their division.

That Hockey News better be in my mailbox tomorrow morning! We're leaving for New York City at 5am Wednesday & driving right through to NY, so i'll need some reading material!

I'm going to the New Jersey/New York Rangers game on Thursday night at MSG. It's the second game of a home & home (they play in NJ tomorrow night), so it better be a good one! It's too bad Brendan Shanahan won't be playing though Sad Oh well, it'll be my 1st ever NHL, so i won't complain Smile

Considering Martin St. Louis is only a point back of Lecavalier, I don't even know if you could say that Lecavalier is the MVP of his own team, let alone the entire NHL.
well i guess you guys know who has my vote, that was a sweet run by the pens getting 30 of 32 points, but coming down from the high i noticed we are only 7 pts up on 8th Confusedhock: its gonna be some sweet hockey down the stretch
