Michael Cammalleri had another good game last night! People always talk about Alexander Frolov & Anze Kopitar, while Cammalleri is usually overlooked for some reason. He's leading the Kings with 31 goals & 71 points and is +8 (he also plays 3 minutes less per game on average than Kopitar & Frolov). He scored 26 goals & 55 points last year in his 1st full season in the NHL, and is still just 24 years old.

I dunno about that - I don't think there's anything brilliant about putting Luongo in there every day. I think if I had a vote it would go to Therrien. He's got a very young team playing great hockey at the most important time of the season. Or maybe Jacques Lemaire. I don't think too many people were picking the Wild to be where they are.

Yeah, I forgot about Therrien. He'll probably win it. However, what has Therrien done other than put Crosby, Malkin, and Staal out on the ice and let them tear it up? I don't think there's anything particularly brilliant about that either. Lemaire is a great coach too but I though the Wild would be right there in the thick of things. The Wild have a very good team and I never doubted them. If not for Gaborik being injured, I think they would be leading the NW division right now.

I was watching some of the LA game the other night on TSN and thought the same thing about Cammalleri. He's a very good player. I don't pay attention to the Kings so I wasn't aware that he was having such a solid season. He definitely is a very good player.

The history of the NHL is littered with examples of teams with a lot of young talent that can't win. Even this year look at the C®apitals. How long has Columbus been talking about their young talent? What about Chicago? The Kings have some pretty damn talented youngsters. How are they doing this season?

Teaching young, talented, NHLers how to win is a skill that not a lot of coaches have.

It's one thing to have young talent but it's another to have a guy like Crosby who isn't only a young talent but is arguably the best player in the entire NHL.

The Capitals have Semin and Ovechkin and nothing else. Hardly comparable to Crosby, Staal, Malkin, Recchi, Gonchar, Whitney. The fourth leading scorer on Washington has 29 points. Confusedhock:

Columbus has been talking about their young talent but that doesn't mean they have the talent. It just means that they were overrated as talents to begin with. Maclean is a horrible hockey man.

Chicago has had bad coaching and a horrible front office. Yes, they could have used better coaching along the way.

The Kings have young talent but not as good as Pittsburgh's. Their coaching could be better maybe but Crawford is a former COY. Maybe it isn't the coaching, maybe it is.
The C®apitals have scored only 23 goals less than Pittsburgh and rank 12th in the league in goals scored, but have given up 34 more and are 4th last in goals against. Offense is largely a skill that most NHLers come into the league with. Defense needs to be taught, so I'd say that coaching is definitely coming into play when comparing Pittsburgh and the C®apitals. Sure, PIT has more talent...but talent alone doesn't win you games.

Sorry, but I stick to my original post - leading the Pens to the season they've had is a lot more impressive than riding the back of Luongo.

Want more evidence? When Gretzky was 19 the Oilers were a 69 point team. A guy named "Messier" was on that team too.

i can't remember if it was one of the guys from tsn or sportsnet who was doing highlights of cammalleri scoring a goal, when he said something to effect of "mike cammalleri, the dyslexic squid, made a great play". all the other announcers just burst out laughing. it was priceless. around xmas time last year...

and yes, cammalleri being a close sounding word to calamari. Wink

 oh I see, it was probably Jay Onrait he always makes calls like that

Thats bullshit, all he was doing was defending himself from the impending cheap shot from Robidas, Modano should have gotten suspended for swinging his stick and hitting Tootoo in the back. There's no way Tootoo should have gotten suspended for more games than Janssen.

So any coach in NJ since Brodeur has been there doesn't deserve credit for the Devil's success?
