Listening to Glenn Healy and/or Bill Watters led me to believe that Gary Roberts was
every team's missing ingredient for a Cup run. I mean with all of those Cup rings that he has he........what? He's only won one Cup? As a role player with the Flames in '89? And he hasn't played a playoff game since 2004?
Yeah, but look how much better he made the Panthers. I mean the season before he got there they were in 2nd last in their division, and last year they finished 2nd last in their division and this year they are.....oh.....2nd last in their division.
Dammit! I hate it when F A C T S get in the way of perception.

I may reside in Ottawa, but I grew up near Toronto, and I'm a long-time leafs fan. .
I knew I liked you for a reason!!! I retract any defamatory statements made in your direction.
But I must reaffirm my hatred for the Sens...some teams you just can't bring yourself around to cheer for...and Ottawa is one of them.

Ah, but people who cheer for Ottawa do so because it is a smart choice. People don't choose to be a fan for Toronto, they become a fan because one of their parents was a fan, whether they live in Toronto or not. So being a Toronto fan is the epitome of nepotism...but that's not why I hate the Laffs. They just plain suck.

Cheering for the Sens is a
smart choice?!? How's that? Is it the annual playoff disappointments? Or the Daigle Era? Or the Yashin Era? Or the Lalime Era? Or Alfie's Cup guarantee?

St. Louis fans - much like Vancouver fans - have proven that when the team is winning, they show up, and when the team is losing, they don't. I can't say that I'd be all that fired up to watch 21 minutes of Bryce Salvador.
You've got a short memory opiated - I went to plenty of 'nuck games during the Keenan era where there couldn't have been more than 8,000 people there.
i can't remember how low the crowds got, you're probably right..but are you going to say the NHL is in great shape?? Nashville can't even sell out, and they're the number one team in the league!
Speaking of sucking. pretty much most teams suck. And by suck I mean not being able to be in the finals. I'm going back to 1967, the last time the Leafs won and the year i was born for shits n giggles.
in 40 years of finals...only 15 different teams have won the cup. **15**
Of those 15, 9 of them have also lost in the finals in that time frame.
Also in those 40 years there have been 9 teams that have made it but only lost in the finals.

I can remember - I was one of the suckers there more often than not.
As for Nashville not selling out, whoop-dee-do. New Jersey rarely sells out (except when the Rangers are in town), and they are a dominating team and have won three Cups. Is it time to move the franchise?
I'm going to say the NHL is in
good shape, because for two years in a row, league-wide revenues have increased.....which generally is a positive sign for any company. But fans not showing up to watch a shitty St. Louis team isn't cause to cry the sky is falling. If and when they turn that team around, the fans will come back - just like they did in Vancouver.......
I'm surprised you were bored by a slow, plodding StL/Van game, since Linden probably looked right at home for a change.

Nashville is one point behind the Sabres, and will probably end up ahead of them at the end of the season..1st place, 2nd..whatever...they still can 't sell out

Roberts is old now and doesn't have much left but damn it, he was Toronto's heart and soul a few years ago in the playoffs. That Toronto/NYI series was one for the ages. :thumb:
I'll never forget his hit on Kenny Jonsson in that series!

the last line seriously got to me...
I dont think Ive ever seen a hockey player so hurt, I actually feel bad for the guy. That was tough to watch and for some reason I have a feeling he wont go back to Edmonton in the summer. I think once the season ends and he has time to sit and think about his life and future, he'll end up signing with another team, he'll felt too hard done by to go back I think.
