And i just read that the Oilers acquired Jaroslav Spacek as well! Good work Bob!
Interesting moves by the Oilers, i thought it was a little odd to see Cory Cross in the Tarnstrom deal, but the Spacek deal explains it. Both should definitely give the Oilers some offensive punch.
well, nvm starting Huet vs. the Leafs
only good thing about tonight is that the leafs looked just as bad if not worse than the habs do heading in to this Saturday's match.

That game's gonna be ug-ly. Two teams that suck right now. In past years you could just about bet the house the game would end in a tie. Now? Who knows. But hopefully the Leafs win... hey they've lost 7 in a row, so they're due, right?
The good news for both the Leafs and Habs....Atlanta sucked last night too! Despite both teams really struggling lately - that's 7 straight L's for Toronto - both teams are just 1 and 2 points out the 8th playoff spot respectively.

The Leafs also have two games in hand on Atlanta. Though fighting for that last playoff spot and likely facing up against their playoff nemesis (Philly) or a team that wants to punish them for knocking them out of the playoffs four of the last five seasons is really not the scenario I was hoping for heading into the season.
Drez, gotta hand it to you, those Sabres (along with Carolina and the Rag$) are the surprise of the season. And the way they spread out the scoring is amazing. Must be nice to roll four lines like that and not have anyone named "Domi" or "Kilger" getting icetime.
The Leafs have now lost 8 straight after last nights OTL to the Habs. They did get Darcy Tucker back and he paid immediate dividends, but their freefall continues. Luckily for the Leafs the teams around them are struggling as well, and it's now a 3 way tie between the Leafs, Habs, and Thrashers for the 8th spot.
The Rangers slaughtered the Pens yesterday in one of the most one-sided games i've ever seen, and the shots on goal can attest to that, 51-14 in favor of the Rangers. The Penguins were absolutely horrible in the game and the Rangers were very sharp, which wasn't a good combination for the Pens. Their defense was pathedic and they just left Marc-Andre Fleury out to dry. The entire game was played in the Pens zone.
And how about those Hurricanes, they are something else! They had a nice ceremony honoring Ronnie Francis last night, and then came out with another strong effort and yet another victory (36-11-4, 1st in NHL). Their offense is terrfic and goes well beyond Eric Staal. Rob Brind'Amour IMO has been the MVP of that club. Not only is he scoring at exactly a point-per-game clip, he's mr.everything to them. He leads the entire NHL in icetime among forwards (at almost 25 minutes a game), is the best faceoff man in the league, plays the powerplay, kills penalties, is their unquestioned leader & captain, etc. They are playing without their 2nd leading scorer in Cory Stillman right now (48 points in 44 games), but they have a bunch of forwards picking up the slack and having career seasons, including Justin Williams and Eric Cole. Ray Whitney has been a great signing from them as well, and they are getting terrific goaltending from Martin Gerber. I wouldn't wanna face this team in the playoffs.
Thank god the real Calgary Flames showed up today. If we had lost 2 straight against the freakin' Hawks, I think I might have seriously contemplated jumping off a building. Hopefully this game shook them out of whatever rut they were in last week. It would be nice to string a few wins together before the Olympic break and maintain our position in the standings. GO FLAMES!!!
Doug Weight the Hurricane. Man, aren't they deep an centre?

I was surprised they gave up their first round pick, but I guess it will be a pretty low first rounder - like 28th or so.
Carolina is a good team, and they feel they have a real shot at the cup, so its good for both, but I doubt he will be there next year. Im surprised St.Louis traded away Sillinger as well.. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=152917&hubname= the guy is no superstar but he was playing really well lately, the Blues must want that first overall pick bad, just stink it up for the rest of the year.
Sillinger is going to be 35 this year and he's a journeyman having a career year on a horrible team. Makes total sense to unload him.
3-27-06, Time to get even with Kasper the Big nose Koward :x
Habs just have to finish strong, and they'll be as dangerous as anyone going into the playoffs, and there couldn't be any bigger a confidence boost than knocking off a team like Ottawa or Carolina first round, personally, i think i'd rather see Montreal/Ottawa, because Montreal plays them well, and knows them well, Carolina scare me...
Great additions by both the Canes and Preds. Mike Sillinger already held the NHL record for playing for the most organizations (Preds are #12 i think???), but he's having a hell of a year and should fit right in with Nashville.
As if the Hurricanes offense wasn't good enough, with guys like Eric Staal, Cory Stillman, Rod Brind'Amour, Eric Cole, Justin Williams, Matt Cullen and Ray Whitney all having very solid seasons, they win the Doug Weight sweepstakes...wow! The Hurricanes could very well be this years Lightning. They have great offense, solid defense, Gerber is giving them great goaltending (and Ward, for the most part, has played well when called upon)...i wouldn't wanna face them in the playoffs.
And BuffaloHipFan...i honestly don't think that was a dirty hit Kasper had on Connolly. I think it sucks that Connolly was injured on the play, but it was just a good solid hip check. I do however think his hit the previous game on the Devils Grant Marshall was a very, very cheap shot and a direct headshot. I thought he should have been suspended for that elbow, and hostly hoped that he would have been for there is no room for stuff like that in this game.
Kasper is about as dirty a player as they come, but it was just unfortunate Connolly was hurt on that hit.
Sillinger is a journeyman. He's an average 3rd line player who just happens to be having a career year. He might get 30 goals this season but he's really not that good. Still, he can't hurt the Predators. He'll get a few goals and muck it up a bit for them.
The Hurricanes are definitely for real and it was a great pickup getting Weight. I still don't know how far they'll go. I wouldn't be surprised to see them out in the first round or in the Cup Finals. I just can't predict what they'll do. What they did do was pick up a very good offensive player and that won't hurt them.
Regarding the Canucks, if Auld can play like he did against the Avs the Canucks won't need to go out and get a goalie. The problem is Auld will have three great games, then have two bad games. I think he's already better than Cloutier.
