I hope you haven't been saying that for the last 40 years...

All of us at the Islanders wish Alexei nothing but the best as he continues his career."
Hmmmm, doesn't Montreal need another headcase Russian to form a full line?
 Somehow i don't think Gainey is that dumb.
schaggs Wrote:$2 mil a season for Antropov........
that'll be something like $50,000 a point. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
JFJ, on the other hand...
Take a look at Gainey's record in Montreal, and the fact that he's got two whiney, unproductive Russians on the books next season for $8 million +, and I'm hard pressed to understand why Gainey doesn't take half the heat JFJ does. Not that I'm defending JFJ.....but Gainey hasn't exactly turned the Habs into something special.

I'm a little curious about this, if only because of some of the scrolling footnote text I saw on Bob McCown this afternoon was fairly similar. Can losing in the Stanley Cup Finals really constitute a 'choking' tag? Seriously?
I'm more than ecstatic about how well of a season this team had, and tonights loss doesn't change any of that. For the first time since 2003, I wasn't disapointed with the Senators post-season success (or lack there-of, as the past has brought). The team really brought the city to a whole new level in so many regards.
I'm really happy for Teemu Selanne. I got a little 'choked' up (I invite any Leafs fan to work that into an unbearable shameless Senators pun) when NBC showed him balling his eyes out at the bench. That moment alone eases the pain just a little bit.
Most of all, on this night where Ottawa is eliminated, I am most happy, and most empathetic for Daniel Alfredsson. He played a hell of a game. He was born a Senator and he will retire a Senator, and I can't imagine this team without him.
srb Wrote:Congrats to the Ducks! I was voting for Ottawa (which is hard for a Leaf's fan)
If there's one thing I can thankfully say, is that at least they're no longer called the "Mighty" Ducks.......
They're still the Disney team to me. For them to win the Stanley Cup is a disgrace.
If I ran this country, the entire Ottawa team would be executed for permanently shaming hockey.
It'd be a kinder, gentler Canada.
Oh, and incidentally, when was the last time the Leafs had the opportunity to choke in the Stanley Cup final?
I hope you haven't been saying that for the last 40 years...[/quote]
I am only 37  and with all other chokes considered....losing 4 games to 1 is definately a choke.I know, I Know, when have the leafs had a chance to choke in the finals.I still say NEXT YEAR
Not a Sens fan, even in the smallest of terms, but........................
I had to feel sorry for Phillips, that was just dumb luck. It was part Emery's fault too, he should have been keeping an eye in the play........
If they had lost by one goal it would have been worse, but losing by 4 shows that the screw up didn't make a difference anyways.........
Phillips, Heatly, Spezza, Fisher, Redden, I would welcome any one of them into a Leafs Jersey any day.......any other Sen, probably not.........LOL
A screw up like that can be disheartening enough to fuck up a whole game, but yeah, you're probably right.
The Conklin thing from last year still makes me upset. Gr.
Well if there are any Ducks fans here congrats to you. :thumb:
My team didn't win but I'm used to it by now. Shed a tear

when the cup is raised and then wait till next year. AGAIN.
Either way It was a fun ride this year for Sabres fans. Will it continue next year? Maybe not. Either way I'll be rooting for them and everyone will hate me for being a Sabres fan, cuz I guess we are whining babys according to everyone else here.
The signing of Antropov is a disgrace. An absolute disgrace. The team needs huge change - it does not need to resign its worst players. Antropov is such a tool.

I will agree with you on that das_hips. I don't think the Sens can be accused of choking this time. They were simply beaten by a superior opponent, and there's no shame in that.

Sweet deal, Stanley Cup here we come!
Last season he made about $1 million IIRC. So in JFJ's mind, a 33-point season warrants a doubling in salary. Yikes.

JFJ has his head up his ass. Now all we have to do is sign Peca, O'neil, give Raycroft a 5 year extyension and now we have a team baby! Stanley Cup here we come.................
I like to think in my mind that this is to secure Antro & Poni and then use them as trade bait..............probably not though

Good to see the game is doing so well south of the border, I'm sure Commissioner Bettman is proud of this:

"Game 3 was seen in 1.2 million homes and produced a 1.1 national rating, matching a July 2005 rerun of "The West Wing" as the lowest-rated prime-time broadcast in NBC history."
Speaking of Antropov and Ponikarovsky ...
Anybody see the article in the paper (the Sun, I shamefacedly admit) about Alexei Ponikarvosky becoming a Canadian citizen?

Re Antropov, I'm just a stultified Leafs fan, but getting rid of Nik the Stik would be like throwing out an old pair of underwear -- might make sense, but damned if you can convince me to do it. When Antropov is healthy (when is Antropov healthy?) and he and Poni are playing well, they give the Leafs flashes of ... um ... something.
So, congrats to both Nik and Poni - you two great big pairs of old underwear!!

My favourite part of that article..
He said he can now try out for the Canadian Olympic hockey team now that he’s a citizen.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....sorry i just had to
