After only about 2 listens, I have to say, I think this album is brilliant! It's not what I expected it might be. I usually look to the Hip for mostly hard hitting ,faster paced songs. Sure they've had more than their fair share of great midtempo and slower songs but for the most part, aside from maybe Music@Work, the majority of the songs were rockers, Hip-style.

The Depression Suite basically leaves me speechless; don't think I've heard any other song by any band like this one. Simply an amazing song.

Morning Moon is an instant classic.

Queen of The Furrows....ridiculously good.

The only song I'm not getting yet is Frozen In My Tracks, but I think it'll come.

Just an amazing album!
Do you know what I think will epic live??

Love is a first, for two main reasons. On Gordos second rant (the one thats over powerd by the messy glitch sounding guitar) will be crazy shredded by baker. And for two, Gordos 3 chances of a rant.. I doubt he will follow the lyrics
CANT WAIT
Totally agree that Love Is A First will be amazing live. It lends itself to the to those epic live Hip songs, like Meridian. From the first time I was able to crank it in my car, I got the same impression. I'd be shocked if they play that song straight foward. Big Grin

I disagree. They very rarely play new songs other than straightforward. I remember when Music at Work came out, they would play that song to a "t", and it wasn't until the IVL tour ,that they changed it up a bit (the extended outro, etc..). I agree that Love is a First will be a rocker live, but it will be a quick 3 minute flash. Then over. I'm quite excited to see how some of the World Container songs (those that survive) will now be played. Ocean certainly should be extended...

I realy hope they play WORLD CONTAINER stuff! When I saw them live in tdot I knew none of it, besides maybe In View and YNTO. I have become a way bigger fan that 07, and now know the whole cateloge(sp?)...

Dont rain on our Love is a First parade. Tongue

I would be surprised if they didn't extend Ocean and jam out the end a little. I think I've said it on here before, but I couldn't believe it when it didn't happen bring it back during my first listen. I've always found the end kinda anti-climactic and disappointing.
The addition of the piano player and female backup vocalist on this tour should allow the Hip to rip it up big time.
i know i keep coming back here and just saying the same things over and over but i just cant say enough about this album. its a dawn of a new era for this band imo. i go through these phases where sometimes i dont listen to the hip very much, if at all. and then when i come back to them i just fall in love with them 10 fold. i popped in WC on my way home from work and just smiled from ear to ear. i actually stayed in my car when i got into my driveway so i could listen to the drop off to its conclusion. that song is just pure bliss, it is the epitome of a hip song.

some may say that bob rock has overproduced this band and taken away their raw'ness, but i disagree. i think this is a natural progression for the boys and between WC and WATS, these are two of the best hip albums in years. this band makes me so proud to be canadian and i really hope these guys never stop putting out albums. if they keep it up they'll be getting close to Rush's marker for albums released.

anyways, i know im just repeating myself over and over but WATS is amazing and so far is my top album of 2009

What? Confusedhock:

Did I dream that up or did I read that somewhere?

Oh Shit,

It may be a pipe dream but I thought I saw that somewhere. 8)
Honestly, I hope they don't play any WC songs. That was the one Hip album that the more I listen to it, the more it annoys me. Maybe: Fly, Kids and Last Night. What I hear from most of your reveiws, WATS is a more laid back album. Really stoked to hear that kind of sound from the boys.

That happens to me all the time too. I go through like 2-3 month periods where I dont listen to much Hip and then all of a suddent I pick up Phantom Power or IVL or something and I get into it again and then the Hip are all I can listen to for about 6 months. I think I listen to them so much during that period that my ears needed a break hence the 2-3 month low hip period.

Yeah, I reaaaally thought that detracted at points on the M@W Evening With tour. Scared was ruined.
Two more days and many more listens to has got me more receptive to the album as a whole- which is how I, personally, judge bands. I still don;t see hoe gord's mello vox will transcribe to a live setting- and 40 shows in a row.

Wel'll see I guess....I digging Queen of the furrows & The last recluse...very M@W-like...

One positive thing- my wife loves it..and she has been a "hip-hater" for 14 years of marriage. hmmm?

Just got my two tickets for the VT show....will have to miss my weekly golf game, but it will be worth it.
