The Hip are coming to Buffalo/Lewiston this summer, this info was confirmed by two independent sources, both of my sources have been 100% accurate in the past. Great Christmas present for me!
This is good news, finally some tour info. Perhaps we can expect some info in the new future on an album release.
birdseyeview Wrote:So I don't think things are looking good for The Hip playing in Watertown next summer. I haven't heard any good news about the show as of yet, and I would assume if the organization in mind were suppose to get the band...it would be almost booked by now.
The show seemed to make sense to me (and 5,000 facebook people) that Watertown would be a great fit. Friends from Canada were just a short 45 minute drive away, We are right on the banks of the Ontario with basically with Kingston a stone's throw away, and this area has a massive following. We have the space, I would assume that the D.P.A.O. have the money, and we have the crowd.
Remember that this isn't just a regular concert. Any profits made are going to disabled people that need assistance in northern New York. It's amazing to me as noble as the band is that they would choose an opposite date even though they know that by playing in Watertown means that they are helping many disabled people. This isn't just a regular tour date. If it doesn't fit into the schedule then I totally get it, but if it fits, then we definitely need it!
Can anyone think of reasons why the band wouldn't play in the Watertown/Northern New York area because this would be a major letdown if they passed us up?
i agree with the majority of this, however i dont believe DPAO has the kind of money the hip wants to play a venue. im not sure of how much they ask for and if it depends on the place the venue is in, but i really dont believe DPAO would spend most, if not all, the money they collect for concerts on one band next summer. this town needs an organization with more $$$ to bring bands that big in, and nobody wants to do it. i think DPAO is thinking of the bigger picture and would rather have more older bands spread out over summer instead of one massive band + any other money issues with security and all that, and with considering where it'll be held, how BIG it will be, and if the crowd would be controllable. and watertown seems to love the classic rock and country genre....
if they really wanted to make it happen, they would. and you most likely would have heard something by now. but overall, this town sucks.
5 years is the longest the hip have ever gone without playing Sudbury since the 90'si believe, so hopefully by that logic, the hip will come to Sudbury this year!
It's coming up on four years since I've seen Das Hips. Last show I went to was in Indy in May 2007. Tried to get to Chicago to see them in 2009 but it never happened. The promised show in St. Louis never materialized. Now I live in Edmonton, so I'm hoping for some action by year's end.
a friend of a friend who works at darien lake - saturday july 2 nd.
Well the tour must not be getting started until atleast May.
I found a Gord show listed for the end of April:

April 28th
Gord Downie
with Julie Doiron + tba

Twitter seems to be all abuzz... Would be epic to have a summer outdoor venue to let the constellations reveal themselves one star at a time!
ShawnMcKenzie89: Heard a rumor that The Tragically Hip is playing this summer in Bobcaygeon. Not sure if its true but if it is I am so fired up.

TheDreaShow: @dpabercrombie word on the street is The Tragically Hip are about to announce they're playing a show in Bobcaygeon this summer

I was going to criticize the idea that a small town like Bobcaygeon would ever be able to pull of a Hip show, especially with something more suitable like Peterborough so near by, but then I found this, http://www.bobcaygeonmusic.com/ so I could be wrong. Still a skeptic though.
I heard a rumour of a show that I would "have to get to" this summer. I'm sure this must be it. So who from out East wants to go :p ? Long trek, but this seems like a essential show for me to be at !
There is a Facebook group to bring them to Bobcaygeon-http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/BRING-THE-HIP-TO-BOBCAYGEON/117932028247732
Bobcaygeon Arena can hold 1500 G.A - I have seen April Wine,David Wilcox,Kim Mitchell at the arena on various Canada Days. This could and should happen.
Of they are playing in Bobcaygeon, there's only one acceptable venue... somewhere outside.
I have been hearing some great information about the band actually doing the show in Watertown this summer! I should find out for sure any day now, but it sounds like it may go down.
From a local Watertown website:
