All the dates listed so far are good dates.

Wow, so the Hip will announce these dates this week?, didn't expect them to do Rexall till the Canadian Tour this winter/fall...

According to the Edmonton journal, they are playing outdoors at the Northlands Grounds rather than Rexall place.

Sigh. I'm getting too old for outdoor shows and the kinds of tomfoolery they inevitably attract. I think I might wait it out for the tour after the album release.

That could be another year or so from now. The Hip are coming to your home town. Go see them! There's nothing like a summer Hip show with a few beers and good company considering the "tomfoolery". There are people all over Europe and the USA who would do anything for a show. :thumb:

Yeah, that's fair enough. I know my wife won't want to go. Perhaps I'll hit the show by myself. It has been four years since I've seen The Hip.

The Tragically Hip (W/ The Arkells)
Saturday July 30, 2011
Buffalo Place Rocks the Harbor Concert Series.
Tickets on sale Friday - $46.00

Downie is headed downtown.

Canadian rock band the Tragically Hip and its enigmatic leader Gordon Downie will perform at 6 p.m. July 30 at the Erie Canal Harbor Central Wharf as part of the Buffalo Place Rocks the Harbor Concert Series.

The group has an immense Western New York fan base, as exhibited by its most recent local appearance: a four-night run of sold-out shows at Artpark in 2009. July's concert will be the band's first at the relatively new Erie Canal Harbor venue and the group's first concert in the City of Buffalo since it headlined HSBC Arena in December 2000.

"The Hip really just wanted to try something different," said Donny Kutzbach of Funtime Presents, which is handling the booking for Buffalo Place's Thursday at the Square and Rocks the Harbor series. "They've been so popular here and in Canada for so long, that they've played pretty much everywhere there is to play. The Arena, Artpark, Darien Lake, the Town Ballroom, you name it," he said.

"Most of these venues, they've really enjoyed," he said. "But these guys don't want to keep doing the same things over and over. That's the way they are."

Kutzbach said the band was shown pictures of the harbor venue -- taken during O.A.R.'s show there last summer -- and saw the chance to offer fans something different.

"The clincher was the idea of playing downtown, right by the water, in a historical site," Kutzbach said. "They loved that concept."

The quintet is playing a short string of shows this summer, before returning to the studio to work on its 13th album.

Opening the show will be Hamilton, Ont., band Arkells.

This summer marks the return of Artie Kwitchoff and Kutzbach's Funtime Presents booking shows for the Buffalo Place concert series at the harbor and Lafayette Square. The addition of the Hip rounds out a Rocks the Harbor lineup that now includes Dark Star Orchestra with Soulive on June 24; Elvis Costello & the Impostors on June 25; Alice Cooper and Anvil on Aug. 26; and Great Big Sea with Martin Sexton on Aug. 27.

Tickets for the Tragically Hip and Arkells are $46 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster
Are the presales for shows usually a day after the show announcement, or two days after the show announcement? I'm just trying to figure out if Winnipeg gets announced tomorrow if the presale will be Wed. or Thurs?

Well this would be big news! I can't remember any band EVER playing this venue. Lots at canadinns stadium, but none at the goldeyes diamond. Am I wrong?

The Guess Who reunion was there several years back. Great show except for the pouring rain and they had to stop for an hour for thunderstorms. I think Wide Mouth Mason may have been the opener.

I think they have done a few other shows there, they usually avoid it because it can mess up the ball filed for awhile and the team plays there all summer.

There's a great DVD of that show that exists.

Power 97 will be announcing it at 7:10am tomorrow morning. I'd assume thehip.com would send out an e-newsletter tonight or tomorrow by noon with the details on presale and pricing.
SO SO SO excited for July 30th!! Tongue
I'm getting excited with all these announcements. An outdoor Calgary show this summer would be absolutely swell.
