this might be the first album where none of the songs that i've heard prior to the release have lost a little something in transition from the stage to the studio. rink, fly, drop off, pretend are as powerful on my shitty computer speakers as they were sitting second row in belleville. (drop off has a little extra something live but still.)
amazing sounding album
... luv sic could be one of the last few tracks on dfn, its really wicked.
more listening will happen now.

That could possily be because the tracks were recorded before the tour this summer. So they were performing them as they were recorded. Where as somthing like "you're everywhere" when first heard in Barrie in September 2003 was much different then the studio cut. Most songs you hear evolve into studio tracks, but the saongs from this summer already were studio tracks, we just hadnt heard themm. Know what I'm saying?

The best way that I can describe this album is "Short, but SWEET"
I got to see Rink and Ocean in person in Charlottetown and I can't get over just how AWESOME they turned out on the album. Rink actually almost sounds live. The Drop-Off and Fly were two of the other versions i've been listening to from live shows for the past few months and again it's great to see that they still have the same feeling/sound on the album as they did in the live shows. The Kids Don't Get It rounds out the rest of my early favorites for the album, I would LOVE to hear it live! (Yeah, might be obvious that I love their live stuff lol)
Luv (sic) was a HUGE surprise, not what I expecting to hear at all and I liked it alot on the first listen. Family Band was the same, I expected something more toned down and again I was pleasantly surprised, especially seeing that alot of the lyrics from it were part of the opening of their set in Moncton at The Stones concert (as Daryl pointed out)
Last Night I Dreamed You Didn't Love Me is a pretty damn good song too. They put out an album that i've pretty much liked every song from the first listen which is quite a surprise!
Pretend and World Container, the "slower" songs on the album come off pretty well also. Although they aren't my favorite songs on the album by any means at this point, I still appreciate them for what they are. Good songs for when you're in a relaxed mood. (As opposed to Rink kicking your ass all over the room)
In View... Ohhhh In View... How you shocked me in the beginning... I didn't really expect myself to start liking this song as much as I do now... I think the video for this song is what brought it around for me. It's a damn good song and the xylophone doesn't bother me a bit anymore... This song goes surprisingly well with the rest of the album...
I thinks thats all of them...
All-in-all i'm VERY pleased with the way the album turned out...
I'm so damn excited to pick this up on the 17th and hear it in the car. I'll be smiling ear to ear

:::EDIT:::
Listening to "Ocean" and trying to remember to breathe.
Damn, I'd forgotten how much I love the hip.

Isn't it a great feeling?
I caught myself about a month ago thinking I might have been hipped-out.
No such feelings anymore!

Luv(sic) has the markings of classic hip, at least in my humble opinion. It takes a lot of effort not to post after each song rolls by. I...feel bad posting because I haven't digested any of this yet but I am far too excited not to say anything.
In the middle of typing this, "The Kids Don't Get It" came on. I don't know what to make of it. It's harder, but not typical. And I think I like it.
Esthete is going to have to put up with a long evening of my energetic hipcentric ramblings, methinks.

your not alone!
kid's may just be my fav song so far on the album!

Words to World Container (song) are simply Gord-ous!

I am only on Pretend right now but so far I love it. Ocean is a great song and an amazing way to open an album. I guess Bob Rock didn't destroy the sound or lyrics.

Does anyone find "World Container" reminscent of REM's "Daysleeper"?
Is it just me being nutty?

I know I said I would be back in about 43 mins but WOW!!!! :jump there was no way I was only going to listen to it once after hearing some of these songs. My favourite is easily Luv (Sic), Im gonna be cranking that one for years to come. when The Kids Dont Get It came on and I heard the lyrics I thought "what did they do to Pretend" I then checked the name and I was relived. I LOVE every song on this album but two that really stood out to me are Luv (Sic) and Yer Not The Ocean. I loved Oceans live in stratford and love it even more now! now I must listen some more... I made the right choice :thumb:

Speechless. They rocked the shit out of every last song on this album, one of their best, instant classic.
