I like it. it's a bit jangley - alt country alt-alt style??

Despite not showing my love for "Kids," I can honestly say that this is their best record since PP.

It pains me to put some of these at the bottom of any list, but if I gotta rank, i gotta...in view is awesome, it's just so old compared to Luv and the like
The Drop-Off is also driving and urgent. GREAT tune. It didn't disappoint at Fort York and neither does the album version.
Haircut-Rabbit Wrote:Overall this album is... different. That's not to say I don't think it's amazing, it's just so very different from anything they've ever done.
The only songs that I'm not too sure about are "Pretend" (for reasons previously stated) and "World Container" (I dunno... I think I just haven't warmed up to the group singing at the end... strikes me as a bit cheesy and the song seems to build to a climax for too long and drop off suddenly at the end).

It's funny, I feel bad posting anything the slightest bit negative but I have to try and counter-balance the excitement-bias. Either way, it's too early yet for me to judge clearly but after first listen the album is incredible. Congrats to the Hip for yet another gem, and for having the balls to do something so different.

Agreed. There's a lot of stuff on this record that they've never tried before (lots of piano, the group singing in "World Container", etc...) and I applaud them for doing it. It definitely has it's own feel, and it's quite different from anything they've done previously. But it's the songs that really stand out for me. This might be some of the best stuff the band has ever written. I should also add that I was one of the first people to bitch about Bob Rock working with the Hip, but I can honestly say that his production perfectly suits the material, just like Adam Kasper perfectly suited the stripped down garage-rock songs on IBE. Normally I'm not a fan of Rock's glossy production style, and you can definitely tell that there are plenty of layers and guitar/piano overdubs, etc... but the songs sound so freakin' good, so I'm not complaining at all. So I will begrudgingly congratulate Bob Rock on a job well done. FINALLY somebody captured Johnny's drums the way they're supposed to sound! I can't wait to get my hands on my own copy so I can listen to it with the best possible sound quality.
love Fly, with its addition of a new Northern Ontario location

I'm only on The Kids but so far I'd say Gord Downie is the star. His voice is spectacular. Also, the album is a very nice progression from their previous material. Gord, WOW!
I am not going to be able to listen until I get home from school. Though, I am debating whether or not I should listen to it... Is it worth it?
