Just ran across this site a few weeks ago looking for info on WC. Great site all around!!
I can't decide which song I like better...The drop off or Fly. Both great songs for different reasons. Loving the old school feel to this disc.
Hekensketal Wrote:All I am saying is that I love each song that they put out because of the process of generating hits. I know that you are probably a true hip fan as everyone on this site is, maybe the quote only true hip fan was a bit much.
Go back and listen to the songs that you are not in love with and I am sure they will gain in popularity with you.
My friend, I have been listening to the Hip (non-stop) for 18 years now. I know 98(ish)% of the lyrics to all the songs by heart...even the ones I don't love. There is no need for me to go back and listen to anything because I know what I know.
It is insulting for you to come on a site like this and assert that you are any more of a fan than anyone else because you love every song. My opinion is what it is and I don't need you telling me otherwise.
And what is this "process of generating hits" you are talking about??
off topic here, Hekensketal ,were you trying to spell "Heksenketal" wrong? or did you work it in to look like that?, I'm actually not even sure if I spelt it rite.,

The only song i really don't enjoy is Pretend.
World Container is an awesome song and is probably my fave so far.
WTF!?!?!?!?!
now THAT, is absurd! to each their own...but yeesh, taht's borderline treason man!
i can almost understand how one could not really like M@W, it's kinda weird at times...although, i find it to be wonderfully so, which is its true beauty...it's unrestrained imagination and seemingly infinite soundscapes and textures...
IVL is a brilliant masterpiece, so much vision for this one, so focused...sure its a bit mellow compared to their previous standards, but Silver Jet, The Darkest One, Use It Up, The Dark Canuck, and All Tore Up are all quite rockin...and melodic at the same time...not to mention the mellower tunes are all drop-dead gorgeous (all of them!)...i know that a lot of people were aa lil annoyed with are You Ready, but IMO, it boasts excellent lyrics, and wonderful vocals...in fact, vocally, i think IVL is easily the best Gord's ever done!
IBE...now this is where i get really confused...how could you not like this record!?!?!?!?!?! IT DOES IT ALL! have you even heard it? it boggles the mind...
cratch:
honestly? M@W had some decent songs, but most are forgettable. Tiger the Lion is awesome live. but i couldn't list all the songs off that cd if i tried.
i have not played IVL all the way through since the day after it came out. Darkest One is the only decent track on there, imho.
IBE? summer is killing us, kills me. josephine is the track that i listen to the most.
dunno... to each his own.

That's what it sounds like to me too, and that's how I've been singing it since I first heard it.
that's just ignorant man...how can you dump all over an album ( AND A HIP ALBUM AT THAT!) without ever even listening to it all the way through!
1,00000000000000000000 TOOL POINTS FOR YOU SIR!
and because of one track on IBE you don't like that album either? also ridiculous! Summer was my least favourite for a long time, but i listened to IBE last night, inspired by your outrageous, and unwarranted comments, and I actually really really loved that song all of a sudden, perhaps it's because of all the snow and cold we've been getting...
if you don't continue to give these albums a chance, they'll never grow on you...i guess you don't want them too...which is a shame, and your losss...
now I'm saying, this man is not a true fan, for the fact that he refuses to listen to IVL all the way through.

i stand by all of my comments
FOR SHAME!
they're all very special songs/albums...like they were my children...my adopted children.

And you're worried that acid will rot your brain?
you don't like all of the hip's songs and albums? get over yourself...
i'm worried that acid will make me fucked in the head like you...who doesn't want to hear Highway Girl...ya shitty stick in the mud.

dude, you're a freaking tool. I like most of their stuff but people have opinions man - your one isn't absolute; so in that sense you're the one who needs to get over yourself.
Here we go now, flame on.
....the hip's entire catalogue is brilliant...each song for different reasons...i feel sorry for anyone who can't recognize that, i really do.
i told him to get over himself, because he thinks he's so goddamned witty...when really he's just being redundant...bringing up the whole LSD arguement, which had nothing to do with anything at all...

I, too, find this statement hard to believe. You can make the arguement that their "newer stuff" isn't as good as their "older stuff," and you're certainly entitled to your opinion. But to deny the brilliance of so many songs such as "Lake Fever," "The Completists," "Toronto #4," "Good Life," "The Dire Wolf," "Nashville," "You're Everywhere" seems a little close-minded to me.
thank you, that's exactly the point i was trying to make...gotta give em a chance, hell, an infinite amount of chances, to grow on you, because 1 by 1, every single song of theirs WILL.
