Any new artwork that would make a good tattoo? I'm still waiting for mine from Maple so I didn't see it yet.......

guns, butterflies and an elk in a suit.
My ranking...

Luv(sic)
The Kids Don't Get It
Last Night I Dreamed
Lonely End of the Rink
The Drop Off
Fly
In View
Family Band
Yer Not The Ocean ( not seeing why this song is getting so much praise....kinda drags)
Pretend
World Container ( sounds like an 80s rock ballad)

I love the album, but man, its VERY overproduced....I guess I'll take the good of Bob Rock with his bad qualities too...[/i]

I believe it is actually just that: A Kiss Alive T-Shirt. Whether its used to pay tribute or not I'm in no position to say. However, It does paint great imagery. Hats off to Gordy on that once again -- it makes me laugh out loud every time I hear it.

Shredd: I agree 100% with your assessment with Luv(sic). That song is sick. I really like the clear U2 feel it has.

I also agree with others here that have heard the Queen-like theatrics on World Container.

This is just a fantastic piece of work. Congratulations to the band. Well done!
To Quote GD: "It came today." & "WHOO!"

Tremendous song, i agree.

NOTE: i got the album off of iTunes and it didn't put "In View" into the track order because it was already downloaded on the advance purchase. So when I listened to the album the first time, "Luv(sic)" came in at track 4 and seemed perfectly placed there. Exciting even.

I wish "Luv(sic)" it were still track#4 and wondering if i should drop "In View" or "Fly" off of my playlist. I have opinions on both (i.e. I've already heard "In View" lots, and "Fly" sounds like a reworked "Putting Down").

keeping with the droping a song idea - lets say you are BobR and you are bent on the classic 10 tracks only - which one do you drop ...
for me I would drop the song that would bring the album down to 38:58
I'm a frequent lurker here, but this is my first post, so please be kind

I agree with many who have said that the album is too 'slick', and it didn't kick my ass in the same way that for example IBE did where it was clear to me that the songs would translate well in concert due in large part to their rawness.

In interviews, GD has said that it was a relief to be given a direction for this album by Bob Rock and finally feeling liberated to ditch their "signature sound" and acknowledge their musical influences. Despite earlier departures (particularly M@W and IVL, which saw them take a few chances), these felt like the Hip's own decision to stretch artistically, and despite being my least favorite efforts (only relative to their other work...I still love these 2), I could appreciate this direction, and there were certainly some gems to be found.

Having eagerly consumed any new material from the Hip, and being blown away every time, WC is the first album that has left me baffled.
Being illiterate in music terminology, I can't explain this technically, but the one word that would describe what this album lacks that I have come to expect from a Hip album is charm. Killer songs that I could more easily embrace coming from anyone else just don't feel "right"...and what could be simply beautiful source material has been tortured into an ugly noisy mess. Anyone else feel the same? Do you think it is simply the production on the album, or is there some other intangible missing? By and large, the reviews have been positive, and it's hard to come up with any solid reasoning for why WC won't be in my CD rotation quite as often as anything else Hip, but this one hasn't grabbed me. Live versions have changed my opinion on individual songs (Summer's Killing Us just has a new energy live), but a whole album? I don't know.
album gets better and better with each listen..and i still don't hear "over" production
So after a couple dozen listens in the car and at home, I'm still loving this album. Usually I'm not a big fan of glossy, slick production, but the songs on this record are so goddamn good, that I could really care less about whatever Bob Rock-isms were added to certain songs. I still stand by my opinion that this is the Hip's strongest work since Phantom Power. I can't stop listening to it!

Please, let's be serious. You might not agree for all songs, but you don't think World Container sounds overproduced?
I keep listening to the album over and over trying to get what is going on? The album is very inspiring to me.....I hate the over production(on guitars and vocals)....but I can easily look past it because of the songs. The production is great on the drums and bass. The last 2 albums didn't really do anything for me as albums(even though they both have amazing signiture songs)....music at work was beyond my favorite as far as the last 3 go....but this one is hurting me good right now. Really good. I'm really connecting with the lyrics as well, which hasn't happened since Coke Machine Glow.

Oh, and I can't fucking wait to here them live now,...will they be morphed into a new live band....plus if gord can sing some of those amazing Coke Machine Glow like melodies I will be blown away. Fuck I wish I would have seen his solo show.

The only songs that sound overproduced to me are In View and World Container. Everything else sounds fine. There's a lot of stuff going on during Pretend as well, but I think the extra layers and piano flourishes fit that song perfectly. The album is definitely slick-sounding, but it's far from being the most overproduced thing they've done. In my opinion that award still goes to Fully Completely with producer Chris Tsangerides completely sucking the life out of 12 brilliant songs (I still hate that plastic-spork-hitting-mashed-potatoes sound that he put on Johnny's drums) World Container on the other hand features a big, loud, lively sound, and the boys sound like they're really rippin' it up in the studio. There's a lot of energy, emotion and some inspired playing on this record. I like it.

I completely agree -- what some call overproduced I call fresh-sounding.

Yes, there are a few on WC that they could have toned down a little (the title track in particular), but to suggest, as I heard in another thread (staying away from there, thanks), that the tunes are tasteless and histrionic, is way over the top. But hey, it's one person's opinion, so be it.

I found Bob Rock's production, especially on Try, Rink, Luv (sic), Ocean and Family Band, gave the songs a lot more depth than they otherwise might have had.
Anybody noticed how Family Band reminds me of Arcade Fire on the Album Funeral?? Same chords as "Wake up" to my ears anyway....

it is not a bad thing as I love Arcade Fire.

I think the hip sound really fresh on that record

Here is my top 10 for the record:

Phantom Power
Day for night
Fully Completely
Road Apple
In between Evolution
Up to here
World Container
Trouble at the Enhouse
Music at work
In violet light (right up to this day, I am having problems liking that album, and music @ work)
