This album is awesome.
The first three songs rock me but then we get into try, luv(sic), the kids don't get it, pretend, last night i dreamed you didn't love me.

now after an eve to digest what I heard and read on the hipbase yesterday, as the positive reviews kept posting, I started to wonder is the album really this good, or are we just starved for some new hip and when hit with a sudden Internet blast of WC it was like a suprise tub of icy cold beers on a July long weekend that we consumed swilling and spilling it all over the review thread
but hearing it again start to finish this morning the house quite the thread calm (not to mention the thin cover of snow on the lawn killing any thoughts of beer in July)
I have to say it is an amazing collection of songs and perhaps Road Apples might finally have to step down into second place, after all these years

This is the first time this year that I have actually been *eager* to get to work so I could listen to the album again.
It just keeps getting better. The only songs I'm not completely sold on as of yet are "Lonely End of the Rink" and "In View". Everything else has my complete respect and attention.
I'm really glad that I bit the bullet and selected express shipping. I should have a copy in my hot little hands a week from Friday! :jump

I've always thought that Fly sounded like a better version of Putting Down. I thought I had said that in some thread over the summer, but I can't seem to find it. It's written down on one of my setlist note pads though.
Pretend is emerging as a favourite; Ocean is a fantastic opener.

Couldn't agree more. I think from now on, I will refer to these songs as "The Pocket..." kinda like Pigeon, We'll Go, Locked, etc... For me Luv and Fly are the stars, but the rest of the album is so damn good. The melodies are infectuous and the background is haunting....DFN style. Also, without the stream in my car today on the way to work, FC was the pick, and something about hearing WC brought me back to FC, as if I was listening to it for the first time. It's a great time to be a hip fan.
So what does everyone think of Bob Rock now? Most people seem to really love the disc...hmmmmm!
My bad....World Container (the song) is awesome. I missed it on the first listen.

I agree, In View is the weakest tune on the album, everything else blows it out of the water. I wonder why they chose it as the single, doesn't really reflect what the rest of the album sounds like (sorry if someone has already pointed this out, I didn't feel like reading through 12 pages of posts). Lonely End... is fantastic.
Kids is a badass song.. WOW..
I've been repeatedly listening to the final track, World Container and it really strikes me as having a very similar sound and feel as The Final Cut era of Pink Floyd...especially the build up on the piano and Rob's guitar work...for those Floyd fans, take another listen and see if you hear what I'm hearing too...think Gunner's Dream, The Post War Dream....and for Jenna, a splash of Daysleeper too!!!
From what I hear of the album on my desk top speakers at work it sounds great, some great stuff. I will pass full judgement when I get it in my hands and can listen on my system at home and get the full Sonic-ness of the album, I just don't get that at work.
A lot of people are loving this right off that bat which is a bit of a concern as most Hip albums take some time to sink in. I hope it has staying power. I know everyone is excited to hear the new stuff.
Upon 3 listens, I think the album is terrific. I will reserve all the swooning and
crooning as I thing that's been covered pretty well already. There are a few stand out
tracks to me already...Lovesic, and the 2nd last song (don't know the name yet as I
haven't had the chance to get to know what they are yet). I think both are going to be
stellar live. The other thing that strikes me already is that I don't hear any songs that I
will fast forward over in the future. Almost every album has one or two that I don't
necessarily dislike, but I always seem to skip over...Membership, Freak Turbulance,
Sillver Jet, Gus...and with all of these, I knew right away I wasn't crazy about them,
not so with this album as of yet.
I'm really looking forward to the actual album, and to the couple of shows I'll be
seeing in a few weeks.

Wow it actually does really sound like some stuff of The Final Cut. Especially when the guitar comes in after "don't forget".

I've never understood the argument that if you like a song or an album right away it may somehow be a detraction to the quality of it. There's obviously a reason why you like like the album upon first listen, because it's good.
I've never been like "wow, this is really good....wait a minute, I'm really enjoying this right of the bat, something has to be wrong here..If I like this so much now, it can't be that good." After seeing all the posotive reviews and repsonses to the new album on here, I dont think people are going to come on here in two weeks and talk about how they no longer think World Container is a great album.
What I'm saying is, if its good music, its good music. I don't see the need to question the overwhelmingly positive response to this as a possible detriment to the quality.
Absolutely stunning! A beautiful piece of work...beginning to end...plain and simple. Love it.
