PITTSBURGH -- A timing error added 52 seconds to the fourth quarter of New England's 23-20 win over Pittsburgh Sunday.
The extra time allowed the Patriots' Adam Vinatieri to boot a 43-yard field goal with one second left to give the Patriots the win.
The NFL acknowledged the mistake Monday saying the on-field officiating crew failed to recognize that the clock was improperly reset after the second play of the fourth quarter.
The officials' timer incorrectly put the 52 seconds back on the clock after a false start penalty was called on the Steelers.
I find it funny that people think the game would have happened exactly the same if the correct time had been set. It is safe to say that different plays would have been called, etc, recognizing that there was less time on the clock.
It reminds me of when someone does something stupid in baseball - like gets picked of 3rd - and then the next guy gets a hit and the announcer says: "so getting picked off has cost Team X a run". Well, who knows? The pitcher likely would not have thrown the exact same pitch, or he would have been throwing from the stretch, etc. It is impossible to know if the end result would have been the exact same, given that some variables have changed.

As strange as it is to be defending TDC... I think he was saying the bullshit was the officials' timing error, not your posting the article regarding said error.
Anyway, if you're interested (and even if you're not), I think the game was really decided when the Steelers' Antwan Randle El caught a pass and ran a long way downfield, deep into Patriots' territory... and then tried to lateral it an unsuspecting Hines Ward, creating a fumble that the Patriots recovered, killing Pittsburgh's momentum.
A lateral on your opponent's 10-yard line? Really?? I remember watching that play, while at the same time talking to my Dad on the phone... I nearly busted his eardrum screaming at the TV "What the f*ck are you DOING??!!" Bonehead play of the year, bar none.

That was NOT a touchdown - No way! His knee down and in front of the goal line - it couldnt be more obvious. The NFL officiating has a lot to be desired this season.

I have to say, that was sweet to see, although it's too early to write off the champs for good. But San Diego is for real, and everyone better realize that.
