Paul Zimmerman said it all about Brett Favre in his rankings this week on CNNSI:

Monday night we were treated to the world's longest discussion about whether or not Brett Favre will/won't/should/shouldn't retire. No disrespect, but frankly I'm sick of this topic. On the field the guy is like a fine old actor who, all of a sudden, has forgotten his lines.

If Favre doesn't retire, the Packers should have the decency to release him or something. Favre doesn't belong on the field anymore. He's lost it. He leads the NFL in interceptions this season. He's done like dinner. Everyone says how classy he is and if this is true, he should do the right thing and retire.

I actually don't think Favre should retire yet... but he needs to get out of Green Bay. The problem is Green Bay is so lacking in talent, Favre is trying way too hard to be the hero, so he's throwing passes he has no business throwing. He is believing too much of the "gunslinger/hero" stuff being fed to him so he chucks it like nobody's business... but he has no running game or reliable short passing game, so he's in a real catch-22. Plus the Pack's defense sucks, so that doesn't help either.

I think if Green Bay takes the ballsy, but correct, decision to let him go, and Favre goes to a team with real offensive talent, and he agrees to follow the new team's system to a tee, then he can be a good QB in the NFL again. But if he stays with the Pack, they'll continue to be a bad team, so he'll tarnish his legacy by throwing so many cheap INTs like he's doing this year.

I'll agree with you guys on this... the constant adulation and hero worship of Favre is WAY overboard... kind of sickening actually.
this is horrible....

Son of Colts coach Dungy dead

NFL.com wire reports

TAMPA, Fla. (Dec. 22, 2005) -- James Dungy, the 18-year-old son of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, was found dead in a Tampa-area apartment, police said.

No foul play is suspected, but a cause of death won't be announced pending an autopsy, said Vida Morgan, a secretary in the Hillsborough County sheriff's office.

James Dungy's girlfriend found him when she returned to the Campus Lodge Apartments in Lutz, Fla., the sheriff's office said in a news release on its website. Police responded at 1:32 a.m. ET and performed CPR on Dungy before he was taken to University Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Tony Dungy has left the Colts and is in Tampa. The Colts (13-1) are at Seattle on Saturday, and team president Bill Polian said that assistant head coach Jim Caldwell has taken over for Dungy.

Indianapolis lost its first game Sunday against the visiting San Diego Chargers, ending what had been a perfect season.

"The thoughts and prayers of everyone in this building are with Tony and (wife) Lauren, their children and their extended family, and for the repose of James' soul," Polian said at a news conference at the Colts' training facility in Indianapolis. "This is a tragedy for the Dungy family and by extension his football family here with the Colts."

Owner Jim Irsay and Polian met with team officials and players to break the news.

"It was not easy, and it was somber, to say the least," Polian said.

Caldwell will take over "for however long Tony will be away and however long he will be away is entirely up to him," Polian added.

"Tony made it clear to me and Jim (Irsay) he wished for the team and organization to carry on. We will. We have the greatest role model there is in Tony. Jim said to the team 'We'll emulate our leader.'"

The Dungys have four other children: daughters Tiara and Jade and sons Eric and Jordan. James, their second-oldest child, was taking extension classes at the University of South Florida, Morgan said.

James Dungy spent his senior year at North Central High School in Indianapolis and graduated this year. C.E. Quandt, the school's principal, said Dungy was a personable student who never flaunted his father's position.

"He just came in and tried to blend in and be a student," Quandt said. "I liked James a lot."

Quandt said Dungy visited North Central a week or two ago to pick up a transcript. He said the death surprised and saddened everyone at the school.

"It kind of diminishes our school family," he said.

James stood 6-foot-7 and was sometimes mistaken for one of his father's players, The Indianapolis Star reported on its website. James and his younger brother, Eric, sometimes watched Colts games from the sidelines, but they had to earn it by doing well in school.

Fans posted prayers and messages of support for Dungy, who also coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on a message board on a Colts fan website.

"Not only was he a great football coach for the Bucs, but he is an even better person," one Tampa Bay fan wrote. "It makes me sick that it happened at this time of year to a person that is so giving and caring."

Wow.... that's terrible. The kid was only 18. Of course in Canada we probably won't hear about this since Phyllis Gretzky passing away is all over the sports news. This is a much bigger tragedy. Wonder how the Colts will handle this. They could be emotionally drained or use it as motivation. We'll see.
I read an updated version of this story where the investigating officer is calling this a possible suicide. That makes this even more of a tragedy. I can't fathom why this would happen... the kid seemed successful and popular in school, and came from a very good family. The football columnists on ESPN, to a man, call Tony Dungy a man of great faith who puts his faith and family ahead of football. What a terrible thing to happen to such a good man and good family. I don't know what else to say...
Bills 37 Bengalsi 27???? Are you kidding me?? I know Cincinatti wasn't a desperate team but still.......I'm in shock at Buffalo winning a game!!!!!

Ugh, tough week, I only got six right today. Arizona, San Fran and Buffalo screwed me! :x
so the niners finally win again, and i didn't want them to!! arrggh..there goes reggie bush..oh well..smith finally looked decent, not great yet..but he showed a lot of promise today, and i love the heart that the team played with...it's always nice beating the rams twice in a season....i have a glimmer of hope for next year...and the seahawks, even though they beat indy..will still choke in the playoffs
It was nice of KC to put SD out, but to make the playoffs will be hard..

For the Chiefs to make the post-season, three things have to happen:

- They must beat Cincinnati next Sunday;

- Denver has to beat the Chargers;

- On Saturday, the underdog Detroit Lions will have to upset the Steelers at Pittsburgh.

The first two are possible, but Det upsetting Pitts..I dont see it happening.
it's been a pretty good week for me as i picked 10 wins correctly so far. this is the thing though, i'm tied for first place in my accum. pool with one week to go. this week, the guy i'm tied with got the same number of wins (with the remaining picks the same)....

keep your fingers crossed for me, as i need to have my picks for this coming week in by thursday morning. all i need is one more win than this other person!!!

PS: the seattle game yesterday was SWEET!!!!!! i had so much fun - i can't even begin to explain!
I only got 9 right so far, Im sure NE will win tonight and give me 10, thats not too bad. And man I feel bad for Brett, he looked alot better than he did last week, but he has no-one to pass too, that team is depleted big time. I still think he can throw the ball just fine, he needs better recievers and good RB to play off of, he just doesn't have that right now and everyone is jumping on his back. Granted he did look pretty bad last week, but I think given the right players and system he can do well again. But if he decides to pack it in, Im all for that too, he's had an amazing career and is my favorite QB of all time.

4 int's last night and he looked better? why can't people lay the blame on him when they lose!!!!! he can throw the ball fine, just not accurately anymore...

Because people can't let go. Hell, if Favre is as good as you guys say, he shouldn't need a great 0-line. EXCUSES EXCUSES EXCUSES. I love when I hear the commentators say, "if you give so and so time, he can hit the open receivers". I think I could hit the open receiver too if he was open and there was no pressure on me. Great players shouldn't need everyone around them to be great players. You can use that excuse about not having recievers or an 0-line about almost anyone. what about all those years Favre had a GREAT 0-LINE? What about the other QB's who didn't have a great line? Were they as good as Favre but without the proper help from their teammates?

The fact is that Favre is not good anymore. He's below average. If you put Tom Brady on Green Bay, he is going to do a hell of a lot better than Favre. It isn't his receivers. IT'S HIM. He's done. The sooner everyone realizes this, the better.
NE beat the Jets 31-21, no big surprise there..so that puts me at 9-7 for this week, brutal!!
