If someone gets worked up over a thread they can go relieve of tension in the whipping thread.

Or maybe a seperate section where people can go to whine about the inevitability of *discussions morphing* and *debates evolving* within the t-h-r-e-a-d-s in a f-o-r-u-m.

Wait, you mean on a discussion forum?!?

You'd best disabuse yourself of that notion right quick, lad. There'll be no discussion on this discussion forum. You want discussion, we'll set up a separate discussion thread for people like you!

(No, I said DISABUSE yourself. This has nothing to do with Nickelback, and I don't care what you'll do for a case of beer!)

p.s. I always thought Coconut Cream was a lame throwaway.
Coconut Cream is the best song on TATH...

and i accept full responsibility for the degradation of this thread.

ooh thats a tough one, i think id take skippy just cause he does it with such class and panache.

I don't know about 'class', but skippy probably has a leg up in the 'panache' department. Then again, I really don't see what skippy's burn mastery has do with the confections of New England.

Oh wait -- that's penuche.

I don't see why it should bother anyone when a particular discussion generates interest and and elicits input from members of this forum, even if it evolves beyond the spec [this post terminated by Cybergestapo Agent 2168]
Your not any less ANAL about letting shit go than anyone else that has issue with threads going astray Jackass!

Ohhh.

Suddenly I find that Coconut Cream is awesome, now that my feeble mind can grasp it's meaning.

I'm glad you see the light. Now, to convince everyone that "Silver Jet" is the lame throwaway...

You people are all backwards.
Silver Jet is quality!
anything with Gregory Peck and Clayqout sound has to be gold

the best jerry...the best!
Shredd Wrote:I really want them to change as well with this next record

that is why I REALLY hope they do not make another album with Bob Rock as the producer

I thought World Container was a big change from the previous couple of records. Not just because of Bob Rock's production, but also in terms of songwriting, tone, and overall feel. As I said earlier, it's a very focused record full of energy. The band sounds like they're having a blast. They also dipped their toes into territory they'd never explored before: the sugary sweet pop of "In View", the ringing echo-drenched guitars and dance-rock breakdowns of "Lonely End of the Rink", the Clash-influenced raggae rock of "Kids Don't Get It", and the piano ballads "Pretend" and "World Container". If you wanted something different after their previous three albums, this is it.

All reports indicate that they are indeed working with Bob Rock again on their next album, so I think it's safe to assume we can expect another slickly produced album sound-wise. But with the Hip, it's always a surprise what the album ends up sounding like. I was originally dead against them working with Bob Rock and I bashed his recording style repeatedly in many threads just like this one. But then the album came out and I was surprisingly blown away by how awesome it sounded, particularly the rhythm section and Gord's vocals. The Hip are brilliant songwriters, and if the songs are great, chances are the album is gonna end up sounding pretty damn good regardless of who the producer is. Having said that, I still prefer a more raw, live-off-the-floor approach, and I can't help but wonder if a change in setting (the Bathouse perhaps?) will change Bob Rock's recording style in any way, since most of the albums he's produced, including World Container, were recorded at his home studio in Maui.

Agreed. I love that tune.

I listened to it again today (not something I do often), and find it sounds a lot like M@W. A more focused, less cerebral M@W. Not really a new direction, per se.

d-i-s-c-u-s-s-i-o-n is one thing. There hasn't been much d-i-s-c-u-s-s-i-o-n in this thread. This thread has been mostly people telling other people that their opinion is wrong.

But telling something they're a knob or a jackass because they liked this OLP album better than that Metallica isn't exactly a d-i-s-c-u-s-s-i-o-n. The last OLP album I bought was Clumsy. I'm not gonna give someone shit cause they still like them. That wouldn't be a d-i-s-c-u-s-s-i-o-n.
PS: I just realized the irony behind me derailing a thread which had just gone back on track.

Sorry guys n' gals

my #1 beef with the record is Gord's straightforward lyrics. The replay value of figuring out the lyrics and being inspired by them is all but gone from WC

I disagree. The only lyrics on WC that I would call straight-forward are "In View" and "Lonely End of the Rink". The rest of the album is Gord at his cryptic best. There's some brilliant writing on this record.
