"Silver Jet" is just so... Soulless. They all sound like they're bored as hell when they play it. No passion.

Agreed. The version from "That Night in Toronto" kicks my ass.

Yes, bring back Hugh Padgham.
IVL was the last Hip product I totally embraced. Smart album.
Evolution was good, but not as strong... and WC, well, that one slid off my radar. The only Bob I want working with this band is Bobby Baker. Keep Mr. Rock away. I think I'm agreeing with the "like M@W" analogy of a few posts back
It's the Anniversary year for the band - 25 years - better than a London Calling - give us a 45 minute scorcher, maybe self-produced like TaTHH, but with the balls of Day For Night.
stepping down from my soapbox.

Sliver Jet is the Hip’s lyrical take on 9/11...

This entire thread is a cluster-fuck of colossal proportions. Now, to add to the colossal fuck clustering, I shall provide my thoughts. I believe that if they release an album that we can revere as a masterpiece ten years from now, incorporates a 'classic Hip' twang, an element of progression, a bit of dirty grit, an indifference to Our Lady Peace and Metallica (both new and old), cryptic lyrics, an alarming (but alarming only to the subconscious) lack of 'cheese', kickin' riffs, and lyrics referencing sexual repression, that we will be blessed with an incredible album that will satisfy all Hip fans, and wet the pallet of the musically inclined.
It seems as though I have discovered their formulaic approach. I could the write the album myself, but I'll just wait nine months.

The Residents had a much better take on 9/11. It's called Demons Dance Alone and is a breathtaking record. I'll send you a copy if you'd like.

So what?
You think 9/11 only affected Americans? Just what is your point here?
Personally, I think Silver Jet should be relegated to the dustbin along with most of the rest of IVL, and I have no opinion on whether that song is about 9/11. But suggesting that Canadians can't have a valid take on a major world event is simply moronic.

I do not think he is saying Canadian’s can’t have a take, he is just saying it is a Canadian take, and considering the Clayqout sound to Cape Spear, ref… it just might be - still a great song IMO

Well, thanks for pointing out that the Hip are Canadian. I think we all might have missed that, otherwise.

Very true...but notice I also mentioned "debate" along with "discussion".
There's room for debate between those who hold opposing opinions. And really, this is as good a place as any for such debate.
Though you're right -- there's a difference between a debate where points and counterpoints are relevant and supported with substance and logic, as opposed to someone firing off insults when they don't like someone else's take on an issue. There are instances of both in this thread.
For example, I've often noticed that "direwolf74" often posts a counterpoint or opposing opinion, but always keeps it focused on the subject itself, and almost always provides some sort of logic, reasoning, or substantive reference in support of his perspective.
