I'd rather get a new Downie album and a new Strippers Union album, and let sweet sweet World Container go for a couple more tours. I could definitely take some more Drop-Off or Kid's don't get it.

As for Bob Rock, I think he brought a lot of focus to the album, focus that I think was missing since Phantom Power. I wasn't a huge fan of the piano, I think the Guitar doing those parts sounds way better, but i'll take the piano over some of the previous album disasters (IMO) like 'Summer's Killing Us' or 'All Tore Up'.
The Horrible Esthete Wrote:For example, I've often noticed that "direwolf74" often posts a counterpoint or opposing opinion, but always keeps it focused on the subject itself, and almost always provides some sort of logic, reasoning, or substantive reference in support of his perspective.

That's the key. That's a discussion. Everyone is going to disagree - it's human nature. But throwing insults around because someone likes a different song than you isn't exactly constructive.

Anyways, I've beaten this dead horse long enough. I appologize to everyone.
I think I can venture to say, that a band is doing pretty good, if out of 11 studio albums, there are only a handful of songs that people don't really care for. Most albums contain only a few good songs, with the rest being filler. I can only hope the next album will be as strong and unique as all their others.
The band chooses each song, to be on an album for whatever reason. Doesn't mean we have to love it. Keep up the good work HIP..

I agree, new solo/side project albums would be sweet!
I'd rather see some of the other members doing some solo/different stuff instead of a new SU album. I really, really didn't like SU and we all know Paul writes great songs and has a great voice. I'd love to see him do something where he's the main songwriter and, you know, sings.

But I'll agree about a new GD album. Then again, as far as I understand, most of WC was just his ideas for his new album altered to fit the rest of the band in and, even though they're good songs, they just don't have the things I loved about his past two albums. I bet he'll be working with Bob Rock too on this new one and I'm just afraid that either way, if we get a new GD album or a new Hip album, it'll be WC Part 2. Now, I wouldn't mind this too much for the next Hip album since it's a great record and the tour was amazing but I'm just hoping for something different when it comes to his solo work.
I agree that it could be a perfect time for solo projects.

I did like Strippers Union, but ya know what? I would LOVE to hear Rob Baker just let loose on the guitar. Sometimes it seems he holds back, and I would love to hear him let go and jam.

Cheers
Here is my vote for their next producer

The Tragically Hip featuring Timbaland.
I'm hoping for a lineup change. I'm getting tired of the same 5 guys.
I had a crazy dream last night - I was at a Hip concert and after the show I was invited back in for the after party. At the after party the guys took the stage but Gord D was the drummer - and the drums were front and centre (all the guys were in their normal positions, just with different instruments) Johnny was just a dancer - like the guy in The Salads, Gord D drummed and sang, and the other guys wore matching outfits pant suits. And then a water balloon fight broke out. And the band played on.

Were they playing ABACAB?
I bet they were playing a brand new song to be on the next album called "Paul is the greatest"

did you eat cheese right before bedtime Chris??
It was a good dream, don't recall what they were playing, and didn't eat any cheese prior to hitting the hay.
