World Container is a masterpiece, and we can't wait to hear what comes next.
It's just so CHEESY sounding and Gord's lyrics, which usually took some time to understand the beauty of, really took a drastic dive on this record
It has a few good songs ( Rink, Kids, Family Band) but is far from a masterpiece. I understand The Hip needed someone like Bob Rock who was very focused to get them back on track making music, but I think they should step out of their comfort zone was again with this record and give us something new with a new producer.
I'd love to hear Greasy Jungle part 2...that doesn't mean it's a good idea, or that they should listen to me though...
if people just want to hear "oldschool" sounding hip, or heavier hip...then people should just go listen to the older or heavier stuff... :?

I love remarks like that. Because, you know, people who like the new stuff couldn't just listen to the new stuff and accept a different sound on the next album. Oh, no. Those people own the Hip. They're the real fans.
Blah, blah, blah.
A couple of points beg to be made:
1. World Container is not a masterpiece. Think back a little while to threads ranking the albums, and not many people ranked it in the top four. The thing about masterpieces, genuine masterpieces, is that you get broad agreement that they're masterpieces. Dark Side of the Moon is a masterpiece. World Container is just another album.
2. The Hip didn't post anything about Jeff Healey's death, but I didn't see anyone here getting all cut up about Willie P. Bennett's death, either. Or Oscar Peterson's death. But I guess if you want to play favourites, then some deaths matter more than others. Right?
3. We should be thankful that the Hip are not still making Up to Here and Road Apples, because times have changed. That being said, times will continue to change, and before you know it, the real fans who put down anyone who wants a change will find themselves hearing an album they hate ... unless, of course, they automatically love everything the Hip do, uncritically.
In which case, one can assume they lack both ears and brains, and disregard them accordingly.

Do any of you, just really sit back and enjoy music in the 'Fine Art' of being a 'Music Lover'.. It is an 'Art' truly listening to music
I can hear how many of you, are not overly crazy about *World Container*..
I for one, 'Truly, A Music Lover' ... thinks *World Container* is one of the greatest Hip Albums.. I am a fan from the first day I picked up the self titled debut at the only record store it was available.. downtown Toronto.. it's my youngest son's favourite story.. he was 16 months old, & goes back to November 1987 and wishes he could remember it..
The comments about the middle of *World Container*
When I listen to *World Container* .. I start at Song # 3..
I don't like *Lonely End of The Rink*.. I find it to be depressing.. When it was played on the radio, I would shut the radio off
*Yer Not The Ocean* is just sort of a non sense song with no substance.. if you really want to get 'technical'
I guess the middle of *World Container* is rather 'jazzy' sounding.. however, very musical.. the vocals are pretty good..
There are quite a few Hip albums I can not listen to from start to finish.. The songs don't hold my interest.. some songs I view as just being plain old sappy...
Anyway, it doesn't matter what The Hip release next.. 'You' will all buy it.. and all the paraphernalia that goes along with it.. and 'You' will still go to every concert you can.. and still 'bitch' about it right?
Cheers! 8)

Never been a fan of Bob Rock's work but you can not argue he does produce albums in general that are good. I would like to see a more stripped down version and would think Rick Rubin would make it great and even get a good cover on it i.e Hurt or Rusty Cage by Johnny Cash

So you're a "true music lover", and apparently consider yourself a die-hard Hip fan, yet there are 'quite a few' Hip records that cannot hold your interest?
cratch: Which albums don't 'do it' for you? Which songs do you consider 'cheesy'?
It's certainly not as if The Hip have been able to avoid the cheesy song here and there, but imo, World Container has more than any other I can think of.
I challenge you to name one Hip tune that measures anywhere close to "In View" on the cheese scale.

Title of this thread needs to be changed me thinks. "Piss and Moan" would be appropriate or maybe even "My Hip is bigger than Yours" :thumb:

It's important to understand that, if your taste differs from mine, then
1 - you're not a real fan
2 - heck, you're not a real music-lover
3 - in fact, you don't even know how to listen to music.
Right?

hock: LOL....hadn't read that one.......I guess he joins the HedgeHog Ron Jeremy as one of the few, the sucky
All I can say is that I always look fwd to new Hip, I have hard time picking every album to bits, I just try and look for the good in everything they put out, sometimes that is easier said than done, but at the end of the day it is still the hip, the band I fell in love with in the spring of 89.
