Road Apples Vinyl and Full Vinyl went for $120 and $244 respectively today on Ebay

Where will it end? I just sold a couple of minty duplicates to finance a sealed TATH vinyl that I was able to locate...best one I've ever come across...4 sharp corners and no ring wear. It's now in the vault :rambo:

Was it someone on here who outbid me for the LBU vinyl today? Was the leader with a few seconds to go, but $280 is a little exorbitant, I think.

Ebay has been flooded with Hip vinyl over the last few weeks, by people trying to make of fast buck. I am quite amazed with what Day for Night is selling for, as this record is NOT that rare, with 4 listed this week alone, as proof of that. The following auction in particular, caught my eye. This album is from the last batch of MapleMusic stock that was sold off to liquidators due to an insurance claim and suffers from WATER DAMAGE! I know this, because I had access to this batch and actually bought a few of the best ones (none this bad).

I am not interested in this LP, but I was just curious how you can tell this has water damage from the liquidation? Can you see it in the photos? Or did you contact the seller? Because this is pretty crappy of him not to disclose this in the auction description. And if I was the buyer i want to know what to look for.

I did not contact the seller. Even from the auction pics you can see the water damage (ink discolorization on the front right/opening side and very bad rippling on the back cover). The seller probably has no idea that the record is from an insurance claim and sold at liquidation, BUT it would be VERY obvious to the seller, that the record suffers from water damage. I had a few of these and can state that the inner sleeves are bad and there is ink transfer onto the vinyl. I know this because I opened a few of them.

So this is a good lead in to my Day For Night vinyl story…

A friend of mine (who got me into vinyl) was visiting one his favorite liquidator outlets in Mississauga, a few years ago. He calls to tell me that there are a bunch of Tragically Hip albums for sale. The one in the blue cover, he tells me (he doesn’t know much about the Hip, but knows I’m a big fan…hence the phone call). Day For Night is the title correct…he says yes. He wants to know if he should pick one up for me. I ask, how much are they…he says $2 each hock: I ask how many are available…he says must be around 50 copies, but some are in bad shape…I say buy ‘em all (I know the record is OOP and MapleMusic has none left). He picked up 5 copies for me and I gladly handed him the $10. All 5 copies were in pretty good shape with no damage. The next day, I swing by the liquidator outlet on my lunch and picked out another 10 to 15 copies. Most were pretty good, with various degrees of cover creasing, a few with slight water damage. All were sealed copies. I left 20 to 25 copies behind, because they had bad water damage or ripped covers, etc. If this was today, obviously I would have bought every single copy there, but I was happy to score what I did, at the time.

I was extremely bored late last night - so I did contact the seller, just for the hell of it.
Seems strange he said it was sealed and in another part of the listing stated it was used.

I asked: "You list this item as Sealed Vinyl - but then you list it as used.What is it?And it looks like it has water damage all over it. Does it have water damage?"
And he said:"It is sealed. The cover Doesn't seem to have water damage. It has been in a frame as long as I've had it. Mostly hanging on a wall but the last year or so on a shelf in my closet. This is how it was when I bought it about 10 years ago."

Never seen this one before....
