I could swear that he has at least five points more than Malkin based on what I've been hearing from the reporters and commentators. :nooooo :nooooo Why is Crosby getting a free pass and Malkin getting hammered constantly by unprofessional frauds like Greg Millen and even, to some extent, Bob Cole. Confusedcratch: After yet another game in which Malkin and Crosby were totally useless on the ice, Malkin was criticized ALL NIGHT by the CBC hacks and not a word was said about Crosby. Heck, after the game, Ron Maclean even found the nerve to say that "Crosby played his heart out." :what :what :what What a friggin' joke. :rambo: :rambo:

Hey, cut Bob and Greg some slack. They have a tough time even knowing which player is which. Tonight I heard Bob call Rafalski "Hudler" and "Maltby", and he referred to a missed opportunity by Hossa as a missed opportunity by Crosby.

See, that's what would be good about the Leafs making the Cup - Bob Cole would be able to name at least one team's players correctly.

Too late for that -- Cole is done.

Cant' see any more.
Cole's still going to be calling regular season games, and playoff games, just not the final.

I get the idea he doesn't want to go, but the CBC wants to quietly push him out.
So, being 75 is reason enough to start to push one old man out the door when all he has to do is describe what is going on in front of him.

But for the Leafs, that's the perfect age for being responsible for rebuilding the hockey team. Woohoo!

While it's not much to brag about, Crosby was definitely the best player on the ice for Pittsburgh. If your hate for him didn't allow you to see that by watching the game, the boxscore (as bad as it is) provides further evidence. Crosby was even with 6 shots. Malkin was -2 with no shots, and really he's been invisible since the Philly series started.

Both guys have zero points. I thought Staal actually outplayed Crosby by a large margin, also, if you're talking about the best player for Pittsburgh. I watched the game and Sid did nothing to brag about, trust me. :rambo: BTW, Malkin the scapegoat has five more goals than the Wunderkid in these playoffs. Geez, if Malkin is playing horribly, I'd say that Crosby has been even worse. Four goals in 16 games? Yeah, that's the stuff of superstars. :nooooo :nooooo

Sure, 4 goals alone wouldn't be anything special. But 4 goals and 17 assists is. If you want to compare the entire playoffs, Crosby has a slight edge with 21 points to Malkin's 19. But it's obvious that nothing Crosby ever does will impress you, so lets forget about him and address Malkin on his own. He was spectacular up until the first game against Philly. Since then he's been anything but. He's got all of two points in those 6 games, and is a minus 4, including a brutal giveaway for a pivotal Detroit goal in game one, and his worst game of the playoffs last night (on for 2 of the 3 goals against including contributory negligence on one of them, no shots, and couldn't win a faceoff to save his life). He got a free pass for the last 4 games against Philly because of his play prior to that and the fact that the Pens were still winning. All criticism of him after two games in these finals though is entirely justified.

He is definitely a polarizing character, but personally I will miss him once he gives it up for good. Sure he doesn't always get micro details correct - but is that really that important? In any game I care about I know the players by watching - I don't need the play-by-play guy to tell me who they are. I think this past season, once they did away with Harry Neale as his main partner, was a renaissance year for Cole. He calls a game as if he's telling a story, and he's got great hockey instincts. More than anything though, I will forever associate his voice with some of the best moments of my hockey watching life, as well as some of the most heart-breaking. On the heart-breaking side, I can still hear his call of the Nagano shootout like it was yesterday. Then there was the '93 Leafs playoff run, including the ups of the OT game 7 win against Detroit and Gilmour's OT wrap-around winner against the Blues, and the down of the loss to Gretzky's Kings, one game short of a trip to the finals. And of course, nothing beats his call of Sakic's clincher in 2002 (scroll to the 2:56 mark):

he barely gets any details correct anymore..it's getting sad not funny

Yes, but I'd prefer non-fiction.

Too often, the story coming from Cole is at odds with what's actually happening on the ice.

couple that with greg millens glaring ineptitude and add in a pens team who hasn`t scored in what seems like forever and you (I) get a finals that is extremely hard to watch
I might have to watch the (and it hurts to say this) the NBC coverage tonight

Or what happened 15 seconds ago, like he's stuck in a permanent time warp.

That being said, I can't watch NBC's coverage. One of my rules in life is to minimize exposure to Mike Milbury.
yes it is time to go Bob (oh baby -- wow -- no sir ) Cole

my fav. call

and now a 24th Stanley Cup banner will hang from the rafters of the famous forum in Montreal …
