Goddamn, that was f**king depressing. Three straight first round losses now for my beloved Flames. Ouch. On the bright side, at least we're not as bad as the Leafs, Sens, or Nucks.

Thing is, the best of 7 format makes upsets unlikely. Barring spectacular late-season meltdowns or key injuries, the results of each round of the playoffs usually reflect the rankings in the regular season. The more games in a series, the more likely the better team will win -- it's much easier to pull an upset in one game than to sustain it over 7. We like to think that in the playoffs, anything is possible, but it's not really true.
The original rationale for playing series was pre-television, to allow fans in both cities to see a game. Now, it's about making more money.
But just think of how exciting the playoffs would be if it was one game in each round (as it is in amateur sports). Every game is game 7. Suddenly, anything is possible.
I'd love that.

Way to go Caps Fans! If this happened in Philly, it would be all over the media.

ryan93 Wrote:haha should be a good series thedarkcanuck, i'm really looking forward to it! I have to be honest, the Pens scare the hell out of me, it'll be a tough task having to shut down the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Hossa, Sykora, Gonchar, Whitney, Malone, etc. etc. I was hoping the cards would fall a little differently the past few days & the Rangers would get the Flyers or perhaps even the Habs.
i hear ya, but for the opposite reasons.jagr,drury,gomez,shanny,straka,lundquist,etc.they destroy the pens in playoff experience. the rangers are the 1 team that scares me in the east. i think they were probably the best team in the league over the last 30 games(if not then awful close). should be a great series. i see that game 6 is next monday so i`m hoping the pens in six and me celebrating afterwards at a queens of the stone age concert in saskatoon
