Yeah the steal of home by Aaron Hill was one of the most exciting baseball plays I've seen in a long time. Outstanding!

Too bad we couldn't complete the sweep of the Yankees. The Jays need a good long winning streak to get back in the picture, enough of this win one, lose one, win two, lose one type of stuff.

Doc Halladay may fall victim to a lot of freak injuries and situations, but his healing powers are almost supernatural! He's pitching tomorrow after missing only just less than three weeks after appendix removal surgery... unbelievable!

Anyone see A-Fraud's latest bout of poor sportsmanship? Yelling at the third baseman to confuse him and cause him to move out of the way from catching an easy pop fly? Granted the kid should have ignored it and made the play but still. First he tries that "slap" play against Boston in the playoffs a couple years ago, now this. How anyone could be a fan of A-Fraud is beyond me. At least his Yankees have no hope in hell of winning anything this year... that is sweet!

Baseball has long been a game where players are constantly trying to deceive / rattle / confuse their opponents, and pushing the bounds of the rules in the name of competition. Stealing signs, hiding the ball, shouting "go" when a runner should tag, acting as if a trapped ball was caught, etc. -- all of these things have become part of the fabric of the game.

Even his glove-slap in the 2004 postseason was fine by me; at least he tried something to avoid a sure out. I want to see a player do all he can in the heat of the moment to help his team win, and if it violates a rule, there are 4 umps there to catch it.

For me, the things that cross the line are blatant pre-meditated attempts at outright cheating, like doctoring the baseball (Gaylord Perry), corking your bat (Sammy Sosa), and juicing-up (Baroid).

Personally, I don't understand why A-rod is so despised (aside from being a Yank-me, of course, but that's nothing personal -- it's something that goes with putting on pinstripes). He's a fantastic talent, he works hard, he's a team player, and seems to do whatever he can to help his team win. I don't ever seem to hear him trashing teammates or other players, he seems to own his mistakes, and his accomplishments appear to be free of artificial influence.

That might be true, but from what Ive read its generally considered a no-no amongst the players and is looked at as a "bush-league" tactic. Im like you in the "do whatever it takes to win" regards, but there are some things you just dont do in sports, and apparently this is one of em. It does lack some professionalism on A-Rod's part I feel, I mean this is professional baseball, is it really necessary? But at the same time do we really have to nail him to the wall for it, I dont think so.

Great pitchers' duel at the Rogers Centre tonight. Roy Halladay returned from his appendectomy to throw 7 shutout innings and pick up career win number 100. For the White Sox, Mark Buehrle tossed a two-hitter, but fortunately for us Jays' fans, both hits were solo home runs.

All in all a pretty solid night at the ballpark, and it doesn't hurt that I have both of the starting pitchers in fantasy :wink:. Total game time was 1 hour 50 minutes, I love games with a pace like that.

Many do feel that way, but not everyone. I heard Dusty Baker say that he thinks that players who fall for "bush-league" tactics are "bush-league" themselves.

But I guess, after thinking more about it, I would agree that a runner shouting "mine, mine, mine" as he runs behind an IF standing under a pop-up is something more suited for amateur hacks than professionals.
