what i dont get is in the bottom of the 13th with a jeter on first, abreu at bat, and this years best hitter (arod) on deck why do you even consider not bunting, get the runner to second and give arod a chance to drive him in, or at least whoever was up after arod a chance...this is why i dont understand american league baseball, the yankees are in the middle of a playoff race, trying to win the pennant, they have a chance for arod to hit with a the winning run in scoring position and they dont do it...and im a jays fan...on the same note since the jays have been eliminated from making the playoffs gibbons and started calling for steals, hit and runs, bunting and all the sudden they sweep the red sox and begin winning games, why didnt he start this in april?

Here's a question for any fans of National League teams, or I guess baseball fans in general... doesn't anybody want to win out there??????? Seems like no one can put anyone away in any of the divisions or the wildcard... a little bizarre to be sure.

well, the Yankees are in...the Red Sox are in, The Indians are in, and The Angels are in...anyone know what the first round is gonna look like?

I think Cleveland will play the Yankees and Anaheim (sorry LA) will play Boston based on the standings right now because the Sox and Yanks can't play each other.

The NL divisional / wildcard races are as wide open as I can ever remember heading into the last weekend of play. It's sweet.

Here's to hoping the Reds can take at least 2 of 3 from the Scrubbies this weekend. Apparently, these 3 games (here in Cincy) are all close to selling out......and it ain't Reds fans who are buying the tickets. There's gunna be a sea of blue and a resounding chorus of "Let's Go Cubbies!" at GABP this weekend -- a virtual home crowd for the Cubs -- in Cincinnati.

I hate the Cubs. :x

Go Phillies!

Go Rockies!

Go Sox! (if they somehow lose the East, it'll be catastrophic for their own World Series chances and give the Yanks a huge lift...)

Seriously though, do the schedulers have a hard on for the Brewers? I mean three games at Atlanta and San Diego, while the Cubbies played the patsy Marlins and Reds?

I would love to see the Yanks go down by the Tribe, I would love to see the Yanks go down by anybody I guess but I'm cheering for the Tribe to go all the way this year if I had to pick a team.

Wow. I hope the Phillies actually get the run they deserve for the incredible surge down the stretch.

Because we all know it's more fun to trash the major-market team who suffered the meltdown than to give kudos to the major-market team who pulled off a damn impressive feat.

The Mets really are the "Mutts".

But the Phillies did something magical thisSeptember, given the injuries that desemated an already weak pitching staff. Something Philly fans should be able to look back upon very fondly for years and years to come, even if they don't reach the Series.

Rollins is a freaking stud. I like lots of guys on that team, but JR is the consummate baseball player in my book. He's got all the tools, but what's more, he has the fire and the leadership to push a team to do what it just did.

Props to the ROckies, too. They put a helluva run together themselves to force the one-gam playoff. I'll be pulling for them too.

The Phillies have some major firepower. Rollins, Utley, Howard are all studs.

looked like the plate was blocked to me, this is gonna be a huge controversy. I don't know why he didn't go back and touch the plate, the ball squirted free and he had tons of time to do it. I guess it doesn't matter now the run counted anyway.

I think he didn't go back and touch the plate because he hit his head on the ground pretty hard and was out of it. While the rest of the team was celebrating around him he was still down on the ground.

It's pretty clear he never got the plate, the ump really blew that one. I guess he just wanted to get the game over with...
