Looks like Steinbrenner's boy is a chip off the old block as well, love the attitude. :lol: Should be a fun off-season this year. I hope the Sox re-sign Lowell, but if they dont I suppose A-Rod would be an option unless he's set on being a SS again. Im not against the idea of going after him but do we really need him? Plus come Oct. he's pretty much useless, and he carries alot of distractions, not good for a team with a very solid clubhouse, I dont see it happening.

I'm haven't quite come to grips with the news yet. I spoke with my father a few moments ago (he who passed on his Sox obsession to me at a very young age) and he had the following to say.

If the Sox were to acquire A-Rod, it would probably go down like this (according to the Boston Herald, I belive). A-Rod would move to SS, and Crisp and Lugo would be traded to the CWS, who, apparentally, want them both dearly. I suppose Ellsbury would then fill Lugo's spot.

We shall see.

I think what's ridiculous is his justification for doing so:

Yeah, because I hear the Yankees rarely spend money to make sure they are competitive. That's just not the Yankee way.

I'm not sure how agreeing that the Yankees acted poorly in handling Torre qualifies as me defending the Yankees, but I suppose a day after the Sox win the World Series and your best player opts out of his contract you need to find solace somewhere. :lol:

Well, my suspicions were confirmed. The Rockies were no match for the Red Sox. I also truly believe the Indians and Yankees could have handled the Rockies also but that's just speculation I suppose. It's great to have such parity in baseball. :roll: These sweeps are so great for the game. :oops:

I wouldn't either; sure he'd be a great offensive catalyst during the regular season, but as someone else said, he disappears in the playoffs and his celebrity prima donna attitude would not sit well in the clubhouse. What I would do is, re-sign Lowell, trade Drew somewhere (nice guy, but he didnt do much during the regular season after starting out hot) and retain Lugo. The Sox will need to replace Schilling if he departs for Arizona or Philly like the rumor mill has it as well.

I wouldn't exactly call Drew a nice guy.

The scary part is that the Red Sox don't need A-Rod. They don't need him at all. If they lose Lowell, they will pick up a big bat but as of now, they don't really need anything. Manny and Ortiz are pretty much good enough to get them in the playoffs alone and if they get hot in the playoffs, the Sox are almost unbeatable.

Im sure Schilling wont be back, and speculation is they wont replace him, with Lester and Bucholz ready to step into the rotation full time with Wakefield as the fifth starter, as he said he would come back to Boston for any amount of money and pitch in any role. It will probably look something like this..

Matsuzaka
Lester
Bucholz
Wakefield

Thats just speculation at this point but it looks likely, Lester for sure will be there, Bucholz maybe, Im sure they have plans in place.

A-Rod or no, we'll still have a very good team next year, cant wait! I have to say this was probably the most fun Ive had watching baseball in a long time. I watched more games this year then I can ever remember, and it was a great run all the way to the finals. Go Sox! :thumb:
