I always pictured them as being trees that have plastice around the base of their trunks. It seems like they are in residential areas, and perhaps they are to protect the trunks, as they are usually young trees. This may sound like the explanation of San Diego by Ron Burgundy, but that's what I always pictured.

Q. Would you please explain the phrase "garbage bag trees". My stepson Graeme has noticed that this phrase appears in two of your songs. I apologize for not being able to recall which songs they are.
A. Graeme is a good boy - I don 't recall which songs they are either - but at the time, it was Winter heading into Spring when trees are without leaves and seem to attract garbage bags that roost in their branches. - GD

Another moment that gets me all fired up occurs in Family Band, in the first bridge (or whatever you'd call it) where Johnny accentuates the lyrics with his kick drum:

Into the backseat folded down!
I figured that this would be extra-sweet in concert, and it turned out to be even more adrenalizing than I thought.
BTW, I've said it before and will say it again:
Faye's drums sound so much better on this album than they have ever sounded before, and it amazes the hell out of me. I dunno what Bobby Rock and the studio techs did differently than whatever TTH have had done in the past, but whatever it was, it merits some strong commendation....
First 2 bars of the guitar solo in Opiated.....yeah!

Maybe I should have said "lyrics" like that. I meant to say that lyrics like that can get to a person emotionally.
As Gord said when referring to "Fly" by Nick Drake, "....though one might want to think right around this stuff. It can get to you.”
