when he sings "eat meeeeeee" overtop the peaking music at about 3:40 in. serious chills...
wow, so many i don't even know where to start. i'm gonna have to agree with everyone else that said the line, "that night in toronto" because living in hamilton and having toronto only 45 minutes away there are alot of nights in toronto that i will never forget. i also love the "anyway, susan" part in nautical disaster. why? i don't know, no significant meaning to me but i just love it. shit theres os many i can be here all night but i'll only mention one more. the film macroscopic on the hip box set dvd, i forget who explains the part, i think its mr. baker but anyways he explains why they always play 'blow at high dough' after so many years. right at the beginiing, the pause and then they rock it out, just sounds amazing, i love that part.
Speaking of LBU, I love the line near the end of Nautical "Have'nt I, done enough to burn out...have'nt I been there, to help out...
"..you can smoke your cigarettes if you'd like, of course" from The Dark Canuck. I love that part.
Also, I have to say ALL OF "FLY". Gord's vocals on this one send me off into my own little place.
I also like the bit in "Family Band", "small groups of people smoking, hey get that kick drum loaded into the backseat folded down." Its more the energy in Gord's voice and the inflection than the words themselves. Either way, its fabulous.

Weaken - The guitar at "in a face so full of meaning
as to almost make it glow"
And I agree with Tiger about that part in TDC aswell!
Jacques Cartier, right this way,
I'll put your coat up on the bed
Hey man you've got a real bum's eye for clothes

Definitely. 8) Also, the musical hits when Gord sings "Good Life..." and "Just Might..." really adds emphasis to it - I love those bits!
I've written on this topic before, but I think I've listened to World Container enough now to add its moments.
It's a harder choice with WC because, while it's not my favourite Hip album, it's the one with the fewest low points. I like every track, so it's hard to note when something really reaches through the speakers and throttles me. That said, here goes:
* The opening notes of Lonely End of the Rink. I instantly see an empty rink, maybe one skater firing pucks off the board, that hollow thwack ringing past empty blue seats.
* All of Fly, but especially the line "Woe betide a guy who just lives to fight." The groove is so deep there you could fall in and hurt yourself. The whole song is strangely inspiring in a way that reminds me of The Dire Wolf.
* The bridge in LuvSic: "It gets hard to remember, we're best when we're tender."
* The last 60 seconds of Kids Don't Get It. In a lot of my favourite Hip songs I marvel at the tension built up, but I think this is the first song where I marvelled at how much tension was released. Easily the song closest to the Hip live experience.
* All of Last Night is great, but the part that really gets me is "You were beside me gently breathing." Chokes me up if I'm in the right mood.
Honourable mentions to Family Band and the title track, which I think are wonderful, but don't have any specific moments that make my knees buckle.
Cheers,
John
"Tonight the winter may have missed its mark,
You can see your breath in Springside Park.
Coffee coloured ice and peeling birch bark.
Sound of rushing water in the dark..."
lately its been:
100th: Left alone to gigantic, hard, huge haunted.
Canuck: After it kicks in to the second half and Gord howls "If we ever get home"
"Apple, Zippo, and Metronome"
raises the hairs on my neck every time.
"WHAT"S!! happenin to you ?????--Why don't you love me like you used to?----------and then the later, (reassertion of the line),,,,,it's pleading loss of control, the singer forgetting his pride and crying out for the love that used to be................./personally ,and for the first time for me, a hip song that hits a little too close to home.
How do I explain this
I mean how do I put this into words
It's one thing or another
But it's neither this nor that
Actually, it's a collection of things
She said, "That's it, that's it, get out"
paints a picture :thumb:
If I die of Vanity, promise me, promise me, they bury me some place I don't want to be, you'll dig me up and transport me unceremoniously, away from the swollen city-breeze, garbage-bag trees, whispers of disease and acts of enormity and lower me slowly, sadly, and properly.
Get Ry Cooder to sing my eulogy
Just what exactly is a "garbage bag tree"? Everytime I'm out somewhere and I see a garbage bag stuck up in a tree I call it a garbage bag tree, but somehow I don't think that's what Gord meant.
I love this whole part of 100th though...I love how the words just roll off your tongue.
