i originally thought that perhaps a greatest hits collection may have been premature. too many bands release a greatest hits set without enough good content or a large enough following. but the more i think of it, the more confidend i am that this is the exact right time for this sort of compilation. there are probably many more fans tagging along right now with all the hip's recent publicity(RnR Hall of Fame), so this set gives them a chance to "catch up," so to speak. the hip have such a good catologue of material that it would be impossible for this compilation to not go over well(and a coupl enew tracks as an added enticement for long-time fans). there is also no error in the lack of a b-side or unreleased material set. the resources for those are so large that there would be no need to release it officially, and those who collect already wouldn't find much need to purchase.
anyway, those are just my thoughts, what do i know?
This is so exciting!! I'm sure it'll be well worth the wait :jump
Ohboyohboyohboy! That is maximum sweet. Was anybody else aroused by this news? Maybe its because my girlfriends been gone for a week but I digress. Also, could someone tell Shane to stop pooping in my Hip pool. Every time I read his posts I'm reminded of Debbie Downer from SNL.
Hipbase - Hey Shane you hear about the new Hip box set?
Shane - Ya, but did you know the polar ice caps are shrinking and AIDS is rampant in Africa. Whaaaa Whaaaa.
I can't wait for this. It is going to be amazing, 2 dvd's and a greatest hits. Thanks again TTH you just keep giving back to your fans. Whatever the cost of this is I think it will be well worth it.
Oh crap. I should've been sitting down. Why haven't I received this email? Anyway, woooooooooooooohooooooooooo!!
As per the list, maybe the boys will take a hint and start playing 38 Years Old again.

Hmmm... decisions, decisions...
Do you honestly think you can wait that long past the release date without exploding?! Especially since we will all be discussing it here in depth come Nov.1. For the love of god, don't do that to yourself!

Since my birthday is on the 29th of November, I think I'm going to ask my loving girlfriend to buy this as an early birthday gift  She's more of a Blue Rodeo fan than a Hip fan but she still loves listening to ABAC and the Killer Whale Tank rant, so there is hope.... :thumb:
So was this an e-mail from the Hipclub?? If so, I never got it. Regardless, this is incredible news! I can't wait to get my hands on this freakin' thing!!!
Woohooo!!!!!
:jump
Oh and Shane, if you're reading this, lighten the f--- up, will ya? This is easily the coolest thing the Hip have ever put together for their fans, and you're bitching about it?? Unbelievable.

My son's birthday is 2 Nov ... I think I'll buy it for him and keep it for him in trust until he turns 21.
It just seems like the right thing to do.
i think kamloops will hear even more hip on-air now that i can talk about this until november...can't wait until we hear one of the new tracks on the radio!!!
I probably won't buy the greatest hits... well, yeah I probably will actually. The thing I want to see is the booklet, concert, and videos really. This is good news but......pardon me for saying this but WHAT THE HELL TOOK SO LONG????? I'm baffled at how long it took the Hip to clue in to the fact that fans love DVD's. They should have had a DVD out in 2000 at least.

Wow. Why didn't I think of that? My son's 1st birthday is Oct 30. Clearly he needs this box set, but I'm not sure if he'll be able to wait two days.

Agreed. Many other bands of their calibre have released numerous DVDs, whether it be live concerts, videos, or what have you. Pearl Jam have released 4 in the last five years alone. The good news is that with this release it looks like the Hip are finally on board with the whole DVD revolution (a bit late, but no matter), and I have a good feeling that we'll be seeing more stuff like this from them in the future. With the DVD package, a new album/tour in '06, a new web guy (thanks, MAv), and constant rumors of a revamped Hipclub, I'd say it's a wonderful time to be a Hip fan right now! Life is good!!!
